Despite Cam Newton saying ahead of Auburn’s Pro Day that there are not 32 quarterbacks better than him, he explained on a RU-vid video that he would be willing to sign as a backup. Cam listed Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Justin Fields, Malik Willis, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Sam Howell and incoming rookies C.J. Mahomes plays almost every snap, there is little pressure on Newton to produce, he would get some small packages plays and he would be an emergency option on a team that won the Super Bowl.

Also if you have a solid resume you can dictate where you want to work. It happens all the time. People get laid off and take additional time off to find the right opportunity all the time.

My thoughts...maybe it is not arrogance. Backups are chosen because they're similar to starter. I think the QBs he listed are very similar to his style of play. Cam is going against the grain. Might be the ultimate power play. Why can't he re-write the narrative. I like his confidence.

It’s not always the case that the backup has a similar playstyle to the starter tho, I mean Mahomes had Matt Moore and Chad Henne back him up and neither of them play that scramble around and buy time kind of QB or Taysom Hill backing up Brees the last couple years there. What Cam could do is go back up somewhere where he might actually get some sort of playing time on designed plays. Similar to Taysom Hill

I used to really like Shannon Sharp and his takes, but after the incident at the Lakers/Memphis game, and now the energy towards Cam Newton, it seems the that there is some hate going on or something. skip aint watch that video, first of all it was 17 minutes not 23, and cam explained in depth on why mahomes, burrow, and pretty much the top 5 qbs weren’t on the list and it wasn’t bc he said he wanted to compete for their spot. It was bc they are pretty much established on their own. The guys on his list were either on his 7v7 teams, have a similar play style, questionable long term like tua and a-rod, or have a coaches he worked with like Buffalo

Totally misunderstood by Skip. The perception was that Cam is not willing to be a backup. This was just a way for him to, with dignity, tell teams that yes he is willing to be a backup. His list is not genuine. I guarantee he would sign with any team.
