Car have a lot of reasons to swap out a thermostat, but in doing so a tune is required if not using a stock setup. Overall the market is flooded with aftermarket options and some of the 160's are problematic. Overall here is a quick and dirty guide to swapping the thermostat out.
Note: Changing from your stock thermostat does require a tune!

My fan keeps running when car is turned off but will reset once I unplug my negative battery cable could this be the thermostat because my temperature isn't reading like it's stuck open

Just did this today after replacing my temp sensor, the dreaded no temp gauge and no ac. The thermostat worked perfectly using your method and fixed my issue! Thank you sir!

Perfect timing. I was just thinking about getting a diff thermostat. Which Low thermostat do u recommend? Yes on altering tune. Great way to cheat dumping the fluid out. I will use that method but will put a rubber piece over vise grips sharp areas. Thanks Mat

QUESTION, would the thermostate sticking be the reason the Rve-match drops out right along with the A/C? This sems to happen at the same time the voltage drops below 14 charging amps.

in the old days , guys used to run high horsepower V8 with no thermostat , especialy in california in the summertime !

In case anyone is wondering, replacing a faulty thermostat on a 6th Gen manual is how you address the following symptoms: 1. Radiator fans run consistently on high and don't turn off unless the car battery is unplugged/the car is left engine off for an extended period of time 2. Rev Match turns off 3. Oil Temp sensor appears to not function and displays oil temp at 160 and doesn't increase 4. Coolant leaks I used Lethal's video for reference and saved myself a trip to the dealer, installed a GM stat though. Great video!

I ended up doing this, lost a bit of fluid which I filled but it triggered my fuel system to shut off after a few minutes. I pulled the ground terminal on the battery and it reset and worked fine after that. Just wanted to put that in here in case someone runs across this happening.

Just curious. I need to replace a Stuck Thermostat in a 3.6L 2016 Camaro. Every place I look online is showing a complete housing with the thermostat included. I only need to replace the thermostat like you guys did. Who sells just the thermostat by itself? Curious where you purchased your Stat by itself. Finding this hard to believe after being in the Auto Parts business since 1978 now retired. Sold thousands of thermostats back in the day by themselves and a gasket. They were cheap and Stant was one of the manufacturers among many.

@@carlvarner709 Carl I don't know if you are addressing me or someone else but we had to replace the complete housing with Thermostant already installed inside of it being I couldn't find the thermostat being sold by itself. Looking at the original that we still have if the thermostat was available by itself it surely looks replaceable in the same housing. To me it is a waste to throw the original housing away. It is in perfect shape but nothing surprises me today.

Hey Lethal. Do you know anything about the “slow to start when hot” “heat soaked starter” issue some of us have? Been digging around on the forums and RU-vid forever. No definitive answer for a fix to it. Love the videos either way, Keep up the great work!

Installing a high torque starter fixed the problem for me.

5th gen. The starter sits right next to the LT headers. Occasionally it would throw a crank position sensor error when starting. I checked the grounds and replaced the Crank sensor. In the end, It was the starter causing it when it was cranking slow. The 6th gen issue may be similar?

A stock OEM one will not require a tune. Changing the temp reading period requires a ECU update. I’ll hold off on saying names as I have heard the issues have been resolved

@@Lethalgarage How did you know the thermostat was stuck? My radiator fan CRANKS at startup, and stays on after the car is off. Plus my temp gauge doesn't move either now. So I thought it was the thermostat.

@@grahamllewellyn3650 If temps are crazy it could be the sensor or the stat. In his case the car would over heat randomly due tot he stuck diaphragm.

@@grahamllewellyn3650 did you ever resolve this issue? My wife's '17 is doing the same thing...fan kicks in at start up and stays on several minutes after turning engine off. I pulled p0128 code, but not sure if it's the thermostat or ECT sensor.

I lost a reading on my coolant temp gauge, lost A/C, lost rev match, and the fan would stay running after I turned it off. I’m reading my thermostat is stuck open upon start up, and it’s causing the computer to freak out and put it in cool down mode. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm having the same issue on my 2016 SS. The check engine light is on also.. After a bit of research I narrowed it down to the thermostat but I'm not a professional mechanic to say for sure. Just going to call the dealership tomorrow and hope it's covered under warranty

Brought mine into the dealership and got it fixed under warranty. The thermostats valve was stuck. Hope this helps. It was all quick and easy

Temp gauge is 0, no A/C. Dealer says it's the Thermostat according to car coder. Any thoughts. Same thing happened in January ? They said A/C compressor harness faulty??????? Back then
