This place is one of my biggest memories as a kid in the 80’s and 90’s. My dad worked for a coal mines called Kermit Coal. This is where the mines would have big gatherings and the family’s got in free. It’s bittersweet to see how ran down it looks now compared to the way it looked to me then. Thank you for this video.

Yup..My first time was in 1980 and I was 10. Also, our 8th grade went there as a field trip in 1984. I moved in 1986 to Ohio, so I've been through Huntington since, but, not back at Camden Park.

I visited Camden Park a couple of times as a child. I remember it being very busy, colorful, bright with all of the ride lights glowing, and cheerful with the sound of ride music. It's a little heartbreaking to see the state of it now. The old wooden roller coaster looks like a death trap and the sky ride is in a sorry state with broken and missing chairs. It's a shame because the grounds are pretty and there's a lovely old fashioned feel about the place. I'm glad to see they still have a haunted house! If only the owners would invest more in maintenance and--dreaming big here--a new roller coaster.

All my family lives in that tri State area just went there for the first time month ago. I was cracking up laughing when you were talking about the roller coaster with the cinder block, and the bathroom stalls. I felt like that roller coaster could fall apart any minute when I rode it. I never noticed the cinder block but i’m not surprised LoL! The haunted house to an extent was genuinely terrifying never thought practical effects could be so effective. Anyways I hope you liked the park even though it’s real janky!😂

Grew up going to Kennywood every summer. School picnics or random Saturdays... I have a ton of memories!! After seeing how unsafe and sad this park seems to be I can't help but wonder if this is Kennywoods graveyard!!!

Haunted House is a stock yet classic Pretzel Dark Ride. Many versions were either built at the Jersey Shore parks or portable versions that toured with carnival companies. Bill Tracey was one of the later designers before he branched off on his own. In Bill Cassidy, owner of Pretzel rides once told me, it’s Not a Roller Coaster but a scare machine.

Gotta note, it’s funny that you mentioned the train is a CP Huntington model, which is named after Collis P. Huntington. Camden Park is in Huntington, WV, which is ALSO named after Collis P. Huntington!

My daughter and I (pursuing a bucket list that includes a rollercoaster in every state) visited this park earlier this month to ride West Virginia's ONLY rollercoaster. We had already ridden several serious coasters at Kings Island in Ohio and Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville but this coaster was the most terrifying. Because they would not allow us to pay for a single ride on the coaster we paid the $20 to get in and then rode it four terrifying times just to bring down the cost per ride to a more reasonable $5 a ride. The coaster should certainly be closed at this point. The cars physically shake, twist and bend as you go up and around on the tracks. As another commenter wrote, you truly believe it could fall apart on any given ride (I know that doesn't say much for my parenting skills I guess). The rest of the park, despite those couple of newer rides is in shambles really. It's LONG past its heyday and it was remarkable to actually see people there. Never saw a chair lift to nowhere before.

I used to love this place in the 70s. Whenever we'd visit the grandparents in the summer, they would take my sister and I there. Even back then it was a bit shabby. Sill, I didn't care. I'm looking forward to making a visit there now that the park is open again. You never know how much longer it will last.

The best ride Camden Park ever had (Besides the big dipper) isn't there anymore. It was out past the Big Dipper. It was a circuit track, half covered half opened. Felt like it slung you around the oval at 10000 miles a hour, blasted heavy metal music at you. Rockin' Cats? something like that. LOVED it and it gave me the love of metal lol. The Big Dipper isn't scary because of the ride, it is scary because you dunno if it will get you to the end alive or not lol. Little Dipper I remember riding with some old girl friend of mine, young and didn't know what crushes or love was... we rode together for hours, eventually we would come back to the station and never got up, they just kept running us. Overall great rides still. and don't get me started on the best food PRONTO PUPS!!!!

Wow, thx for posting! Brings back memories of visiting back in the late 60’s early 70’s. Rode my first Ferris Wheel here, which seemed like a big deal back then. I’m actually very surprised it’s still around.

Hawnted House is definitely a cred. Me, Duane from RCDB and the ECC did a walk-through with lights on back in 2016 and examined it including the cars. It's basically a wooden mouse.

Definitely one of those quirky parks everyone needs to spend and afternoon at and make the best of. They may not be around forever. I had planned a trip here last year along with a few other parks. But we all know how last year panned out.

Hey man, thanks for this video! I live in Huntington, WV, and Camden Park will always have a special place in my heart because it was such a memorable part of my childhood in the late 80s and early 90s. The Little Dipper, if the name didnt give it away, is an exact replica of the Big Dipper as far as the track design goes. The only difference is that there's no enclosed bridge on the Little Dipper. I vividly remember spending at entire afternoon and evening with a group of church friends at Camden Park, riding the Big Dipper over and over again. Even though we were the only ones riding, we still had to get out of the train when the ride was over and exit the gate and come back around to the line to sit back in the train. I believe we rode it 26 or 27 times in a row. I remember closing my eyes on the drive home that night, and how whenever I'd close my eyes, I saw the track in front of my eyes Nd my body felt the sensations of still being on the coaster until I finally fell asleep. It was wild.

A lot has Happened to Camden Park over the Years.. The Dodgem Cars burned down after it got Struck By Lightning. The Spider was taken out after an Arm of the ride collapsed with people on it. They also had a Skating Rink that burned down many years ago that was a revenue source during winter months. They definitely need more attractions and upkeep to make this park a great destination.

This brings back memories. The company my dad worked at had their yearly company picnic there (late 70's through the 80's). Right in that pavilion you went over. The Big Dipper had not changes one bit. Or has been painted. The Little Dipper looks like it had new decals applied at some point. The Haunted House, again exactly the same. The Log Flume ride was fun but the water always STANK. Even gave me a rash one year. The Whip and Scrambler was always good violent fun. It is sad to see the Skyliner in such sad condition. I guess there is just no place to get replacement seats. In general the park felt just a little run down in the 80's and unfortunately time has taken it's due over the last few decades. I was kind of hoping the Fallout 76 game release would put some life into the place given it was a location there. I love the reaction to the old coin stalls in the bathrooms!

Both roller coasters should be a bonfire. The paint is so old it probably has lead in it. They need to reach out to the public and clean some stuff up. Have people bring in grills and food. A lot of paint and other supplies. Hell if I won Power Ball I would help myself. Small parks are dying off. People want Bigger, Faster, Thrills. Even for the littler kids. No with Do-Dodonpa being shut down for breaking necks, backs and arms. Who knows smaller parks may perk up.
