Obviously you will use the best tools available, here in the U.S. we have the ar10 in 308 which I can only imagine how effective you would be with multiple 20 rnd mags. Great work. Love the video

Yeah all I can think of while watching this is how much more effective could they be with an AR-10. A bolt gun simply can’t compete.

If you can find a CZ 550 with the CZ 750 bottom metal and 10 round magazines that might be a winner. The CZ 550 magnum(and the ZKK602 that preceded it ) actions are legendary in Africa for dangerous game as they are incredibly reliable and robust, whilst the original ZKK 600, ZKK 601 and later CZ 550 short and medium length were (and still are) extremely popular as bakkie (pick up/ ute) rifles amongst farm/ ranch owners as tough, durable, no-nonsense working rifles that will continue to operate reliably even with sand, dust and dirt ingress. I own 4 CZ 550 rifles that work in extremely dusty, hot conditions regularly. The bolts never fail to close on a chambered round and the controlled round feed never fails to pick up a round from the magazine.

Good shooting young fella. Just a thought. Slip the base plate off your mags and restretch the springs, they may have lost a bit of tension, just make sure they go back the right way. I'm not sure what sort of lube your using on the sides of your mags but a silicone spray would be better than something like WD40 or graphite with all that dust. Also, most modern mags are generic with an internal spacer to adapt them to the length of the factory round. Just make sure the spacers are still intact. And, I notice you jam the mags in pretty hard and I'm not sure that's a good idea. One, it'll bring the rounds to the front of the mag, instead being seated at the rear to facilitate pick up. Two, mags these days aren't made of heavy metal and it'll damage the shoulders of the mag and force them closed which can cause a misload or jam. Three, the mag release is in the front of the mag sleeve and it clips into an indentation in the front of the mag. It's best to insert the mag with the front edge leading, as in 45 degrees and pivit the mag into place. If you get the chance to watch anyone swap mags on any AR you'll see what I mean, youtube is full of examples. I'm living my life vicariously through you so keep up the good work
@dwanehart8150
@dwanehart8150 7 месяцев назад
Shooting in that sort of country, I would not lube my mags at all. Especially as they are lying around in a dusty old ute. I would wipe them clean regularly and never lube them. Dust loves lube and they will stop working quicker than keeping them clean and very dry. If that AIA Enfield has a scope I would be putting that Verney away. European made rifle in the dusty, dirty outback. No wonder your having mag and rifle jams. Also, are you breeding miniature camels out there or are those young camels orphans from your previous hunts?? Those 3 look like they are still on the tit?
@waylandforge8704
@waylandforge8704 7 месяцев назад
You make a good point about the lube however based on my experience culling camels and brumbies in the Simpson a dry lube like silconsolicon improves the may they feed. Also it's important to keep them dust free. I carry my mags in old socks and I never leave them loaded with the springs under tension.@@dwanehart8150

@littlejackalo5326

"... on an AR"? LOL. The AR mag gets inserted straight. It is impossible to rock it in. And they're called feed lips. Jamming the mags in won't "being the round to the front of the mag." Stretching out a spring past it's yield point is worthless to do. It may last 1 reload. And no, most msgs aren't genetic with spacers. That's is absolutely the exception not the rule. It is done in done find that take STANAG mags, but it's certainly not "most." Most guns that shoot multiple calibers on the same platform only rely on a base plate change. It seems like most of your "gun knowledge" is based on watching too much RU-vid, rather than actual real world gun experience.

The speedline seems to ge get the job done. My personal preference in the scenario your useing the guns for wold be to use the Enfield. #1 It has ten round mags and Mags are for the most part cheap and readely available. #2 In comparison to the bolt release action of the Speedline and fisicaly working the bolt on the Enfield. I feel that the Enfield forces you to choose the shots that you take rather that enduce you to just let rip. With that said, you got the job done. Good job.

My observation as an American from the desert southwest US I can see how the dust in your region would create havoc on rifles. With your rate of fire requirements for your job I would would be looking at a Ruger M77 Scout rifle. Controlled feed, ten round box magazines and 308 cal. My Ruger M77 never fails even when the dust clogs it up. I’m surprised the Enfield has so many malfunctions actually. But I do not envy your job. I’m glad I don’t have to do it. I’m a hunter and I understand why you have to do it, I’m just glad I don’t have to. Good luck out there.

I was having trouble picking between the 77 scout and the AIA, I chose the AIA because of the magazines and how well the old 303 went. (I e. Fast) I like the modernized Mauser actions as well. I have a new rifle on the way which will be great to test out, and appears to be well suited to the task.
@concernedaussie1330
@concernedaussie1330 7 месяцев назад
Did you ever use a Lee Enfield 303 ? Surely 180gn 303 would do just fine . & a nice refurbished sporter with custom scout mount & scope is what I’d be looking at . With nicely tuned stripper clips , one of those will feed as fast as Aussie laws allow . Not only that but stripper clips are cheap & light & less bulky. This is a build I have in the pipeline , however mine will be a 338 303 wildcat . Making use of better quality high BC , heavier projectiles. Perfect for what your doing .

@@concernedaussie1330 yes, and nothing drops a camel as well as a 303. I've dropped a decent number with one. It's availability why we use the 308. I would get a 303 if the right one came up, and I could do some good work. I have some old footage of me using a 303 (No4mk1) on camels.

@@jack_out_the_back Amen brother. Well maybe I should just do this 1st one in 303 & save the custom wildcat cartridge $$$ on the scout scope & mounts . @@jack_out_the_back mate a properly thoughtout desert / red dirt rifle imo . Should be dry lubed instead of oil or grease . Lower pressure loads if that can be helped. ( 303's low pressure & large rim & generous chamber dimension ) might excel in the desert. Buying bulk of the ppu 180gr would be the way to go . Nice flat point cast lead projectiles of 190 +grains with hitek coating would be ideal. Cheap & very effective. Hmmm smle desert patrol rifle ! You got my cogs turning now.

Speedline vs AIA is (I think) 2 different types of real quality. There's probably minor Pros n Cons with both & maybe personal preference tips the balance(?). Windy & dusty or not, factory or reloads as some suit some guns better than others, lots of shots or cold shot plus maybe one follow up shot...there's all them variables. Sad & glad I don't have a Speedline or AIA...I wouldn't love either one less. 😎 Think if you're in Pastoral country a pest permit to run a semi auto centrefire is a no brainer although some folk are far more accurate with a bolt action...I think despite what some think with the semi auto...some people would need a bit more constant practice. Never shot camels, few friends have. If that country is as flat as it kinda looks then I guess its mostly shorter range? Great video. People need to understand the damage they do & the necessity to cull them. Great video - I think you might be near a station we looked at buying into many years ago but didn't as it was a terrible drouhgt like wipe out year & even the kangaroos were falling over. Excellent video. As a fellow West Aussie I feel your pain about the licensing situation. I know they’re hideously expensive, but I wonder how rifles like the Blaser R8, or the new Sako 100 switch barrel rifles would go in the conditions you shoot in. You could get a couple of spare barrels in the same calibre. The straight pull Savage Impulse, or the Beretta BRX1 might be ok as well if they are able to hold up for the work you do. I know the Impulse Predator comes with a ten round Magazine. Plus the barrel change on the Impulse is supposed to be pretty straightforward. Plus they are a fair bit cheaper than the Blaser or the Sako. Keep up the good work. To show you how bad the laws are, 30 years ago stations could use pistols for their work. WAPOL in all their wisdom decided that was beyond the pale. Ignoring the fact that a handgun is a much better tool when you have to finish off a wounded animal. WAPOL have a long history of paranoia about theoretical future problems rather than focusing on the problems before them today. It’s often just empty symbolism as it’s much easier to victimise law abiding firearms owners than to admit that a lot of the violence issues are very difficult to solve without spending a vast amount of money on community based initiatives.

Yes, I've had issues with the gas system before, but the back up service was great, they got it functioning again, it's no where as easy to field strip and maintain as other rifles, which does limit it's suitability for this environment and role. @@craigparker4108Goats, donkeys, buffalo, camels, deer and a few others have nothing to do with government so just making shite up won’t add to your lack of credibility. All of those were either escapees or deliberately let into the wild without permission. The same goes for Carp & Tilapia. Cane toads could possibly be blamed on government but really it was poor research by the Bureau of Sugar Experiments that introduced them from Hawaii to eat the invasive Cane beetle. The toads ate everything else except for Cane beetles (sarcasm). Where governments could be commended is properly introducing the devastating Cactoblastis caterpillars which wiped out the vast majority of Prickly Pear. As for rabbits we decided it would be fab to let ‘em loose to feed poor lost travellers and make us a bit like England. Better release some foxes to eat them but our native wildlife was a lot easier to kill than rabbits. The government got the scientists to release myxomatosis which knocked over most of the bunnies so the foxes ate even more wildlife. $30,000 fine to keep a pet rabbit in Qld. I left the worst till last, see where your argument about governments being negligent is going? The worst of the lot are CATS. 25 extinct species and counting due to one cute little furry clawed animal, the cat. Currently we are trying to kill 3,000,000 which is the tip of the iceberg. Now which did I forget, oh yes horses, nothing to do with government negligence, I think we can bury that conspiracy theory. Trampling the high country as if it was their paddock, if you’ve ever bush walked or skied above the treeline at about 1,400m you’d see the devastation they’ve caused to ecosystems that did not evolve with hard hoofed animals as Australia has no native hard hoofed animals.

Clean you guns and mags. As you already know, regulars gun oil isn't good in dusty environments, but the synthetic oils that create a 'like Teflon coating' on guns works great. I used that stuff on my M4 in Iraq, and it worked better than anything else. I used MILITEC-1. The heat turns the oil into a dry, protective coating that repels carbon, dust and dirt and lubes the gun. ARMALUB is another brand that does the same thing. First time using it. strip the gun down, clean all the dirt/dust/carbon and all of the old oil off, put on a coat of the synthetic oil and put it in a dark garbage bag in the sun for several hours (not every day, just the first application and after a heavy cleaning). The heat kind of activates and helps build up the initial coating. Then after that, every day just clean off the dust and carbon and apply a light coat with a rag; wiping off excess so that dust doesn't stick to it. Do the inside of you mags too; makes them smoother; just makes sure there is no oil residue that dust sticks to.

New to channel and loving the vids. Gunna ask a question someone has probably already asked. Is there no commercial value to live camel or camel carcass? Did some research and camel meat has more value overseas than here...first thing I thought was how good would it be for the farm if it did have value. It would sort out the pest problem and give ya some coin...win/win. Mind sets in Australia are so set on the mainstream meats. I love wallaby and roo but most people are shocked I eat skippy lol, even tried possum once. Wallaby rendang pie...yummo.
