I got my Woodwind 36 earlier this week, I'm handy with tools but it took 2 hours to assemble. Now that I've done one I could probably do another in an hour, but I had problems understanding the instructions in a couple of areas and in those area the figure drawings were not close enough to the issue to help much, but I did figure it out. It's well designed for assembly and very well made. I did the burn out/in without meat without any problems, but on the first use the control thermocouple failed several hours in. Called customer service and they are mailing out a replacement, also they emailed me instructions with clear pictures on how to remove and replace. Excellent customer service that is knowledgeable about their product and not in a foreign call center.
I have heard of some controller issues though I’ve never personally experienced any. Glad they got you handled! Thank you for watching and for the feedback 🙏
In the market for a pellet grill and was wanting the Weber Smokefire until I saw your review. You mentioned the Camp Chef Woodwind and my wife watched this review with me and I am allowed by the wife to order one!!! Going to get some Saucy Bottom rub and sauce as well. Thank you for the excellent review.
Great review of what appears to be a very well thought out pellet cooker. Digging on where they put the bottle opener. Pop a top and check the pellet level at the same time. Brilliant!
Thank you Mike for such a sensible and down to earth review. Apart from all the great information about this Camp Chef your video exposes your delightful and humble personality that is rarely found on Y.T. compared to the arrogance and ignorance from most postings. Will certainly subscribe and look forward for more good things.
Great video Michael, I always thought of Camp Chef as an El Cheapo line for WalMart. After your video, it has made it to the top of my list, a head of the Weber. -Bruce
I have intentionally avoided buying a smoker all these years--why? I suppose, lack of time--this video is likley inspiring me to give this sucker a try! great info and vid.
My girl friend bought me the vertical camp chef smoker propane generated it got 4 star rating was easy to build the only thing I dont like is regulating the temp. But otherwise it will outlast my brinkman grill that I stole from bass pro shops cause brinkman was going out of business. My next purchase I'm pretty sure will be a pellet smoker.
Love Camp Chef products as well as their customer service. I won't be in the market to upgrade for a while but when I do I'm glad their wifi controller is finally available.
Thanks for a great review. Building a new house and decided to sell my Weber Genesis and get something new for the house. I think I found what I want! I've never smoked before so will be returning to your site for help!
Came over to watch this video right after I watched your SmokeFire video. My brother got one of the basic Campchef models back in September and after a week of constant use and many pounds of beef we were sold. Now this one looks like a great alternative to the Weber disappointment.
Thank you for doing this review.... between this and a couple others made me a buyer! Still waiting for it to arrive but seems to be all that I need and wanted! Thanks again and keep the camp chef cooks coming!
Congrats on the new grill brother. It has awesome features!! I purchased a Rec Tec RT-590 several months back and as hectic as life has gotten I’ve found myself using it more lol. Just like you said you can stay inside haha. I have to start showing my other pits love again soon. Great video brother. Can’t wait to see more!
I really appreciate your support, Eric! Those Rec-Tecs are NICE! You gotta spread that grill love around though I know it’s hard lol. Thank you very much, brother!
Great Job !!! I can't wait to get mine ....Ordered the same one without the sidekick...I can always get the Sidekick accessories later , been waiting about 2 weeks , they are on back order . Just got an email that it's getting ready to ship .......YEEEEEHAAAWWWWWWW !!!!! I will keep an eye out for some more of your videos Thanks again !!!!
My Z Grill 700E works good, I use it at least 3+ days a week. Here is the biggest problem with all pellet grills if you fill up the pellet hopper to the top. There is too much weight on one side and will tip over. Therefore, I placed brick pavers in the lower cabinet at the opposite side as a counter balance. Cleaning, I use a blower to blow out the ashes. Now, If I did it again, I would purchase the Woodwind SG 24 Pellet Grill with Sear Box or the Woodwind SG 24 Pellet Grill with Sidekick. Reasons: easier to clean out ash, change pellet types and I sometimes I really needed to sear items.
Awesome review brotha Mike, nice addition to your cooking toys...lol. Those ribs and steaks look freakin delicious... Nice color on them ribs👍👍 Have a wonderful blessed weekend... Cheers🍺🍺
Awesome review! I can safely say that this will be my next setup when my pitboss dies. Thanks for the time for putting this together and the links for rubs!
Great review, Mike. But now I'm hungry and want the new WW to replace my old one that's still working flawlessly. Gotta agree that Camp Chef makes some great products. Thanks for the review.
I have the dx or dg 24. Great little grill. I would highly recommend a pellet tube to anyone looking to get more smoke though. Like 10 bucks on amazon. Fill it with pellets and light an end. Definitly helps if you're not getting enough from the pellet grill itself.
Great video, I just got this grill and have never used a pellet grill before. Way cleaner than my smoker and charcoal grills, just love it! Great review, I appreciate you going through everything! I have my own channel, but will subscribe to your, again great job!
I have an older Camp Chef, but the ash clean out was a big plus when I was deciding on which pellet grill to get. I'm really loving that new controller, the different level of smoke settings is awesome along with the wifi makes it perfect. Great review THANKS!!!
gallero559 It does a really good job but don’t forget that with the smoke setting adjustment the temperatures will vary more the higher the smoke setting. Overall it did great I’ve cooked on it three times so far and it has done a wonderful job.
Thanks for the review, I've been watching your channel since you did the Weber S/F and your reviews help alot. Now I've got new hope for getting a pellet grill. Thanks again!
Thanks again for another comprehensive walk-through on this grill. I saw on another channel someone having issues with her igniter and there is supposedly an air adjustment lever underneath for adjustment to your altitude. Not sure if this has that capability or not. But overall thank you for putting this one out. Mine arrives in three days, yay.
Mike...Awesome review. I have both an older model Camp Chef Woodwind w/o WiFi...love it...and a Green Mountain Daniel Boone w/WiFi...love it as well. I would love to see you do a comparison of the two.
Nice review. I have probably 1 more year left on my treager. I would love for you to do a follow-up video after a summer of use. Thanks again for plugging Saucy Bottom BBQ!
Yeah, thanks for plugging Saucy Bottom BBQ! The 309 area code means they're basically local and gives me someone else to support! I'm heading to your website now Joe!
Woodwind vs smokepro what is your opinion on someone looking for their first pellet grill? Great video! Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly review it.
Congrats on the new addition to your family, Mike! A pellet grill is definitely next on my list, looking forward to seeing how this one works out for you. Cheers!
Hi mike sorry to bother you on the weekend! Had a question if you have a minute! I want to purchase a Picanha but no one near me seems to carry it and I don’t have any good butchers near me. Where do you get yours from? Do you order online?
Great review on upgrade. Have the pg24sg about 9mos now love it. Took a while to save up to get, story of my life as usual they upgrade. Can’t complain between it and Blackstone I cook on them 5days a week, no need for oven or stove. Guess they will always be pie in the sky 😂. Keep up the great 👍 videos Mike always helpful .Cheers my friend
Thank you very much, Jon! Lol I agree it always seems like there’s something new out there lol. It’s just how the marketplace is. These companies want to remain relevant and competitive. Overall I think it’s good as it drives the market ant products to become better all the way around. The manufacturers push each other to be better and more competitive. The consumer wins when they do. Cheers 🍻
Nice review, Mike. When you have the time would you compare/contrast the Woodwind with the Silverback ? I think that it might be helpful and interesting. thank you.
Hey Mike - really good run down on the grill. Another high quality review. No BS, and straight to the point. What are your thoughts on the Camp Chef now it’s 9 months down the track. Cheers!
Great review Mike! Pellets seem to be all the rage now and that one does look really cool, nice on easy ash clean up and the controls seem simple but a lot of control over the cook. Hope you guys have a great holiday season!
Thank you very much as always for your support, Steve! I’m very grateful for all the new opportunities. Brings me closer to my dream. Blessings to you and yours 🙏
Mike , very nice new pellet cooker! I like the ability to change pellets and empty the ash easily. The option to double up the top grates is good also. Thanks Mike. G.P.G.
Mike, as a newbie, I’m anxious about pellet hopper and grease fires. I specifically waited on the Weber SmokeFire just to find out it wasn’t particularly safe from fire. I want to do the pellet smoker thing, but am unsure which is safer...Treager, Camp Chef, Green Mountain, Rec Tec, can you offer advice? I’m sure others that are doing research and have now scratched the SmokeFire off their list would like to know too. Thanks man. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much for watching, David. As I mention at the end of the video, I really don’t comment on or judge cookers I haven’t owned or used. Out of the brands you mentioned, I do own a Camp Chef and am very satisfied. Thank you very much again 🙏
Somehow I missed this one until now. You did a great job on the review, and the ribs n steaks turned out nice. Looks like a very good pellet grill/smoker.
After having this for a while are you happy with the level of smoke flavor it is providing? I like a deep smoke flavor and am concerned I won’t get it from a pellet grill. Good video- thanks.
I absolutely love it. I am testing a prototype of a new Camp Chef model now and just gave this one away to a disabled Veteran. He loves it too. They are great cookers. If you’re used to offset smoker type smoke, there are few pellet grills that will give you that. There are ways to supplement the smoke, such as smoke tubes, but it’s never gonna be an offset. That said, they provide a good amount of CLEAN smoke flavor and produce some amazing food. My family loves it.
I've been looking into a pellet grill as my next grill. Thanks for a very in depth review (I really liked the response from Camp Chef about the igniter system) As always, Saturday morning and all I can think about is ribs! MIKE! Why?
Was hoping you would show how the smoke changed with the settings (7 vs 1 vs 10) does it go from no smoke to thin blue to billowing white. And maybe even talk about the temperature control (overshoot/undershoot temperatures) as an equipment review. Think it claims to be +/- 5F but be cool to confirm that. Still enjoyed the video and thanks for sharing.
All pellet grills will have temperature swings well more than 5 degrees. It’s those temperature swings that create the smoke. The smoke adjuster will simply create more swings or less swings. It has nothing to do with clean or dirty smoke. You should never place any food on any smoker until you have clean smoke which takes a few minutes with most pellet grills.
Nice grill and a fun video! Although we get along fine with our little Weber Smokey Joe Gold, back in the day I would have loved to have something like this. Except, "back in the day" there was no wifi or pellets or Camp Chef Sidekicks. There was wood fire, charcoal or, later on, gas (propane or natural). Nothing fancy. Well, having a rotisserie was considered fancy. I'm pretty good at "assembly". In fact, I love it when I see "assembly required". Too bad we don't live next door to each other. Anyway, enjoyed seeing what the possibilities are these days!
Thank you very much, Terry! I wish you did live next door lol. I get myself into all kinds of pickles here trying to assemble things lol. The wife rolls her eyes at my every attempt lol. As much as I love a good ole Weber Kettle and some nice beautiful smells of Charcoal and wood chunks burning slow in harmony, I also embrace technology. I think this grill is really opening the door for newbies to get into smoking and eliminating the ups and downs of traditional smoking. I’ll take it either way! I just love to cook. Cheers to you!
@@EverydayBBQ Agreed. Technology is good! I am so grateful that I have lived to see and experience these "miracles". And that is what they are to me. Keep cooking my friend. Keep cooking! I'll keep watching. That's the easy part.
How do Camp Chefs hold up over the long-haul? Are there parts that are prone to rust? What is the grilling shell box made from? Any insights would be extremely useful because if I'm going to plop down $600-1000, I want it to last.
It’s metal with stainless steel. Mine has been great. I’ve had two now. As long as you keep it clean, covered and maintained, they will last quite a while.
I had the problem with the sidekick ignitor. The starter goes past the gas hole on the burner. I bent mine over to the next hole so the lighter is directly over the gas burner hole, and it lights every time now. I agree, something that we shouldn't have to worry about
Very nice. I'd be curious how ribs would cook on those top racks compared to the bottom one when I really wanted to load them up. That a lot of real estate. Great vid, Brother!
As a general rule of thumb, the food on the top rack will always get more smoke and cook slightly faster. At least that’s been my experience. I usually rotate things if it’s a lot of food on a long cook. Thank you very much for your support 🙏
Hey Mike, first time viewer. Great video! I'm buying a Camp Chef Woodwind pellet grille, either 24" or 36" in the next week so I'm doing my research. Two questions. How much more pellets will be used by the larger one vs the smaller one? Is it negligible? Also, how difficult will it be to use it outdoors in winter/cold weather? I live in Minnesota. I'll always have the option to position it with a wind block. Thanks so much! Keep up the great work! Sol
Thank you very much, Sol 🙏. Okay let’s tackle these questions... On the size, I’d say the pellet use will be more on the larger cooker but not a ton more. There will also likely be less even temps in the larger unit but again not by much and mostly on the far left and right edges. The Camp Chef isn’t manufactured with the thickest metal, however it is very reliable and works great. All pellet grills are somewhat difficult to start up in extreme cold and once they do, the thicker the metal the better the temperature consistently holds. Camp Chef does offer an insulated blanket for cold weather operations. I’d recommend it for where you live. You’ll love it!
In your opinion which add-on is better: sidekick or searbox ? I’m looking to replace my gas grill and wanted to have all-in-one unit like this (smoke + grill). Great video by the way. Thanks!
Glad I forgot to go to Lowe’s. I saw this video and the camp chef is very impressive. Thinking about doing a turkey if mine comes in before Thanksgiving. Hey do you have a recipe for turkey over the smoker?
Great video! Answered a lot of questions for me, and eliminated the weber from contenders for me with your other video. Two question, do you think you’ll do a traeger review? And how is the maintenance on that sidekick?
I kinda doubt I’ll be doing any Traeger stuff. The sidekick is pretty easy to clean up. You’ve just got to do it every time you clean the grill (I suggest every 1-3 cooks). Maintainence is key in pellet cookers. Thank you very much for watching, Jerry.
Hey Mike, love the review, I want to get one of those but I just bought another Camp Chef with the slide and Grill. It works great and I love it but I wish I'd waited for this one! Congratulations on the new camp ship I know you love it. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Have you been pretty happy with the Side Kick and the grill box? I have been torn between the side kick and sear box attachments. Have you tried the griddle on the side kick or pizza oven? Just curious if the sidekick offers true value and versatility or if its gimmicky at best. Thanks for your videos!
Great review mike, I congrats myself buying it. I have concern hoping you share time to see my concern. How’s the excess oil does it catch fire? Thanks 🙏
How do you feel about this grill after a few years? I am currently in the market for a sub $1k pellet grill and i am down to this one vs the Recteq 590. Both of these have some features i like but Immaybbe tipping towards the camp chef because of the ability to add the sidekick...
I really can’t speak on the Rec TEC because I’ve never owned one or used one. I can tell you I used this grill up until this summer when I gave it to a disabled veteran, and he enjoys it to this day. The grill has never giving me a problem. It is always produced top-notch cooks, and I have taken good care of it as well. Camp Chef has new models out as well.
Do you feel like the 24 is big enough or do you wish you had the 36? I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and I keep going back and forth between the two sizes. Thanks. Great review!!
Thank you very much, JDawg. I feel good with the 24 but there are days when I wish I had more space. It does have a good amount of cooking area though with the top and bottom grates.
Great video! Question, do you worry about cold temps and using your pellet grill? This is the model I've been eyeing but live in New England so not sure if I should get one of those Traeger insulated models. Thanks!
trying to decide between a 24 and a 36 - do you find the 24 is big enough for most uses? i have a 22" weber kettle and always wishing i had more real estate - but with the shelf i am thinking i a good with a 24...
Honestly with the top shelf I seem to always have plenty of room. I also think the smaller cooking chamber might be better temperature maintenance. Just a theory but a reasonable one.
I’ve got a 24 and the shape of the camp chef you can easily fit 5 racks of ribs. I’ve done 17 pound prime rib. You would be surprised at the amount of space you get with the camp chef. It’s got a lot more depth and height compared to most smokers.
Great review Mike - this looks like a great grill. I noticed there weren't any casters on two of the legs which is similar to my Camp Chef FTG600 which makes it awkward to move around. Any idea why Camp Chef went with this design?
I think they go with the two casters in the smaller model like mine perhaps I am unsure but I think the larger model may have four casters. Regardless, these work fine with moving it around the yard which I’ve had to do quite a bit lately.
I see so many try to use a pellet grill to sear steaks. You want really high temperatures above 1000 degrees or youre just going to cook the steak when you sear it. Its why you have that big grey band all the way around. That grill box can do well for putting some marks on chicken or grilling up some shrimp or something, but not for searing a steak. Ive put a lot of time in reverse searing steaks and the hotter the sear the better which none of these grills can provide something that does that. Get a torch.
Hey Mike - any update on this grill has held up after almost three years? I’m considering purchasing but have read some reviews on the product that question long term durability of the grill. Thanks so much!
HEY MIKE, man that was a awesome video my friend, you explained everything in such detail and I really enjoyed your presentation so much, and the food looked amazing, those ribs for a pellet smoker had a great smoke ring, and that is exactly how I like my steak cooked. I wanted to ask you a question, I have a Yoder Smoker now and I really don't care for it for a lot of reasons, but the question is I know you like your camp Chef a lot but what do you think about the new Weber Pellet grill and smoker, and if you had to chose between the two and you didn't have your Camp Chef which one do you think would suit you better. I am in the market for change, because I think the Pellet smokers are underated. Thanks my friend. AWESOME JOB MY FRIEND.. GOD BLESS YOU.!!!
Thank you very much for all the support, Joe! I actually sold two of my older cookers and ordered a Weber SmokeFire. It will be here next week. I am also curious about the comparison of the Camp Chef against it, mainly for the PID WiFi controller. The Camp Chef works great. The Weber has a LOT of innovative features new to the Pellet Grill market. I’m hoping to try and test those. Knowing Weber, I’d say their claims are likely a safe bet but I also like to be hands on. Stay tuned for the comparison!

Can't remember if I posted this before. I love this grill. I'm on the fence because I live in a nice area but I live in a condo. ALL of our decks face the water. Worried about the smoke. I have good neighbors, want to keep it that way. I currently have my gas grill on the deck. No complaints.
The only time it smokes real heavy is at start up. That’s pretty short lived. It will go through cycles after that but it’s tolerable IMO. Thank you very much for your support 🙏

@@EverydayBBQ Thanks brother. Shout out from your brother from another mother. Keep posting. Very professional.
