Camp Lazlo ended like a M. Night Shayamalan movie

I knew about this nearly a decade ago, thanks to Joe Murray's book "Creating Animated Cartoons with Character". Also, in that book, it said that Tom Kenny himself came up with the idea about Lumpus being an imposter scoutmaster in the finale. It was originally just a joke but Joe Murray decided "you know what, let's have that for the finale".

Scoutmaster Lumpus did appear in Rocko's Modern Life Static Cling, so there's a little connection.

I thought the ending made sense because Lumpus did a lot of weird stuff at that camp and was incredibly lazy with his authority.

I watched every episode when it came out, but when this episode left out I had a few questions on it myself. If Lumpus isn't the scout master then why didn't Slankman know the old scout master when obviously he was a scout master assistant for more than a year.

Camp Lazio was my favorite show to watch as a kid I miss the mid 2000's

There was one other episode where Lumpus says that he ordered his badges and didn’t actually earn any of them. Edward had done that in the episode, but after confessing to Lumpus, Lumpus says “How do you think I got this job?”

The most underrated Cartoon Network show.

That steer couldn’t be Heffer Wolfe because he spent 20 years adrift in outer space. I’d say that it was one of those brothers Heffer’s birth father said he had.

I thought the episode about frog racing... which was never utilized... and THEN Lumpus was carried away to the funny farm.

Bringing this up only adds more confusion about the continuity of the Rocko Netflix special. Rocko's Modern Life ended in 1996. Camp Lazlo originally aired between 2005 and 2008. If Heffer is here in Camp Kidney during that time period, how could he, Rocko, and Filburt be in space for 20 years to find themselves "not in the 90s anymore"? Maybe you could make the argument that Camp Lazlo takes place in the future, which would explain why Heffer appears elderly in Lazlo whereas in the special he looks like he hasn't aged a day, but we never get any indication of that in the show. Presumably one of these events would have to be non-canon, but then again I have no idea how strict Rocko's continuity is.

I watched the show when it aired but I missed the ending in 2008 probably mostly due to my family (being my parents, my sister's and I) moved in mid to late September of 2007. I think I completely forgot that many shows, like camp lazlo, existed at all up until a few years ago. And, the fact that the plot twist ending was a complete mystery to me as well until I started watching a few videos myself on the ending here and there.

NGL, Camp Lazlo was one of my all-time favorite CN shows.

You know how Heffer and Lumpus are both voiced by Tom Kenny and both Rocko and Lazlo are made by Joe Murray, Tom Kenny also voiced Slinkman, Lumpus' assistant, and both shows have the same animation style, voice cast, and crew, with a few exceptions.

Seeing Camp Lazlo new content on my feed is a rare sight. Thank you for creating it. These past weeks, Joe was actually checking on Camp Lazlo videos in RU-vid, when he found people spreading the 'Spongebob rip-off' unpopular opinion, and that had him a little concerned. I wonder if he will watch this sometime.

The biggest question I have is what happened to Slinkman after lumpus went crazy for not having a complete pair of socks? I mean he's not in the final scene when lumpus is revealed to be a deranged looney, could it be that lumpus "killed" him back at camp?

like that Simpsons episode Principal Skinner turned out to be Armin Tamzarian and the real Skinner was his thought-missing superior in Nam. so it's just a matter of taking every memory "Lumpus" said he had and imagine he was making stuff up or actually narrating something he heard from the actual Lumpus at some point

Cartoon Network channeled M. Night Shyamalan for this ending. I find the paint clothes plot quite weird and to a degree risqué. I'm surprised the network allowed it. Hard to believe it's been 15 years since the show started this year, and 12 years since it ended. Such nostalgia here! Where does the time go ? :(

When I first saw this vid, I was confused about how this lined up with the Rocko Netflix special. If Heffer was in Camp Kidney in what I assume was between 2005 and 2008, Camp Lazlo's original run, how could he have been in space with Rocko and Filburt for 20 years to find they're "not in the 90s anymore"? One possibility is that Lazlo actually takes place further in the future, which would explain why Heffer appears elderly in Lazlo but looks like he hasn't aged a day in the special, but that explanation still raises questions. Before I found out about this, my biggest point of confusion towards the Netflix special was the whole "Ralph is now Rachel" thing, not because I saw anything wrong with there being a trans character, but because it creates a major plot hole in the series. At the end of Wacky Delly (one of my personal favorite Rocko eps btw), we see Ralph, not Rachel, as an old MAN in the future. Some people have made the argument that the Netflix special takes place after this future ending, but Rachel, much like most of the cast, doesn't appear any older than she was in the original show, and I'm pretty sure a sex change operation doesn't reverse the effects of aging. If Camp Lazlo does indeed take place further into the future and the elderly steer is in fact Heffer, this suggests the characters would not physically age until long after the events of the Netflix special, meaning the ending of Wacky Delly could not possibly happen before it. So why then in that future do we see RALPH, not Rachel, as an old MAN, not woman? This would have to mean Ralph transitioned to Rachel, she still wasn't satisfied for whatever reason, and eventually transitioned back to male at some point, which would kind of defeat the point of making the character trans at all. So this would have to mean either A. the Netflix special isn't canon B. the Camp Lazlo ending isn't canon or C. the ending of Wacky Delly isn't canon I really hope it isn't C. Wacky Delly is one of my personal favorite episodes.

To be perfectly be honest the real scoutmaster from camp lazlo just shares heifers character shape was a couple of lumps it's kind of interestingthat the creators of their own shows would keep their own art styleto make different shows I mean if you look at family Guy Cleveland show and American Dad they all carry the same art style you can tell who's cartoon it is by the art style alone even know this is pretty much a commen trope in television these days I had a feeling camp lazlo has same art style as rocko's modern Life. Regardless if it's from a different network.

Honestly I feel like it could have sooner meant Lumpus was fired before the summer started and he just got rid of his replacement before anyone else noticed.

There’s an extremely more unsettling ending to Camp Lazlo. Remember how Lumpus went batshit after on the house after they got back from the laundry mat? WHAT HAPPENED TO SLINKMAN? 😰

That series finale was weird. The show was weird but that's what made it so special.

It doesn’t work with “Static Cling’s” continuity.

Though a shaved Heffer adds to that mystery. Lumpus has been posing as a scoutmaster for years, so by the time of Static Cling, his fur grew back after being completely shaved off so that nobody at Camp Kidney would recognize him as the real scoutmaster before stuffing him in a closet two years after the original Rocko series concluded. This adds continuity as to what was happening while Rocko was in space: His friend, Heffer Wolfe, was tormented by a moose for several years before being locked away into a storage closet for the entire summer. Lumpus is a known nudist that escaped an insane asylum who his first victim since the escape was none other than Heffer (poor guy can't catch a break).

Could this mean that rocko’s modern life and camp lazo take place in the the same universe.

That's show was my childhood right there. But I think that's impossible that there's no way that's the real scout master.
