People buy it for the branding. Pure and simple. There's nothing unique or differential about their tents or bottles. They're industry standard, and only mid-quality at that. You can probably buy a better tent for the same price if I'm being honest. I will give them credit for targeting an up and coming market though. It's smart to appeal to the hipster niche with their branding, and promote it the way they have. It's just a matter of them taking a bigger bite than they can chew, with the sheer range of products they're offering. They don't even know how to promote their tents, as their star seller. I can't imagine they do much better with the rest of their product range. They have great energy and enthusiasm. Their focus is just lacking.

To say that this was painful to watch is a major understatement. To stand there and not be able to list a single feature or reason why your product is such an amazing thing compared to regular tent is criminal. It just made them look like they were selling eco-camping gear because it’s what’s trendy at the moment. When they gave that answer about it being good for Instagram photos… Well that was the final nail in the coffin for them. If the nature and scenery around you when you’re camping is beautiful then it’s not going to matter if you take those pictures with their $800 burlap sack tent or a $150 nylon Walmart tent behind you.

Unfortunately it's very common. I live in Colombia and last year I asked a friend why he opened a hostel. He responded "because I always wanted my own business". I'm like "But there are many hostels in the same barrio. What's their average occupancy rate? Is tourism increasing? What average annual occupancy do you need to break even because as far as I can see, the hostels are half full all year." He told me to fuck off back to Australia where apparently everyone is rich and privileged without lifting a finger. And people wonder why businesses fail.................

I would never buy this, but there is a market for it - they just need to give a few away to instagram booty models to help get the word out I think.

Well, I bought a used tent quite similar to this about 10 years ago. I‘ve seen tents exactly like this used by summer camps as long as I can remember. A friend of mine has put a hole in the ceiling, insulated it with fireproof material and put a word stove in and went fishing in Scandinavia in winter. So I don‘t see what makes this thing special. Ah, I‘m German, so this impression is a Central European one.

What if they made it an actual “society” that is like a subscription type of thing, with a newsletter/magazine featuring stories and photos of camping in beautiful locations and then with that, a coupon or pass of some kind to allow free access to a variety of camping locations, or have camping events with a group all going together and have an expert on the area there to give fun facts about it or something; maybe have some camping consumables included like protein bars or trail mix, and then offer a discount on the bigger products for being a member of the society. That way it’s more of an “experience” and basically a club. Not really scalable, but better than whatever it is they are trying to sell now

That’s actually a great idea. And for the Instagramers that don’t really do the outdoors but want the camping experience you could even offer a service to set up all the stuff at the campsite in advance and take it down at the end of the weekend. And then it’s a subscription service you can go whenever you want.

The girls are totally focused on building a catchy brand, the products are secondary. Which is why they know nothing about their products or even how many products their marketing. If it looks good we'll stick our brand on it and hope it sells. These girls need some business courses fast or need a third partner to run the show while they go off and get back in touch with reality, nature and each other.

These 2 were on a show .. I can’t remember but I don’t think it was ‘say yes to the dress’ but Charity is a musician who’s parents didn’t approve of her sexuality because of their religion and Phoebe is her lover and supporter not only in music but this too because as you can see because she didn’t add to the pitch but Charity constantly looked to her for calmness and to lower her anxiousness

I thought the answer that it's an attractive tent was quite good. I haven't seen a lot of tents, but to my eye it did look particularly attractive, and if I were to see it in a store I'd buy it over others. Of course they can't explain what makes it "different" apart from that it's more attractive. Perhaps they needed some independent confirmation of that, such as reviews. The sales say something, unless the first 80 were from their friends and relatives.

A canvas tent may be heavy and a pain to dry but having had all types over the years canvas won everytime. Our last one was an 8m bell tent, £900 new (UK) and well worth it too, used for two years and sold for £780).

The thing about that though is the cheap or midrange tents can last decades of basic camping trips if you take care of them. The people they are marketing to are people who do basic weekend/campsite camping or glamping for Instagram. The type of tent they have is for people who do harsher climate or backwoods type camping but they aren’t marketing to those people and that’s where they’re losing out.

They always ask the same few questions. How can you not be ready for this. Heres their most common questions: 1. G'day mate where about ya from? 2. What are your sales last year (units and dollars) 3. What are your per unit margins 4. Who is your biggest competition 5. What makes your product different from the competition 6. What are you spending our money on 7. What are you doing next year to grow the business 8. Do you have a patent/protection 9. How much time do you spend on this (if its less than 80 hours per week or you have another job they are out no matter how successful the business or how good the deal) 10. Are you willing to come down on your evaluation (they always want 30-40% if Steve Jobs walked in asking for $5 for a 5% stake in the new iphone they would turn him down because it's 'not enough skin in the game'.)

It's a nebulous term, can be applied to any product if you're creative enough in what equals saving the environment and customers don't care unless its different or cheaper than existing products. Nice photo shoot for a mag tent though.

Im pretty sure that charity would've been much at ease and more focused to do her pitch and to answer the questions if her partner Phoebe wouldn't just dead stare at her all the time, and just remaining silent all the way. And even though she could see that her partner was struggling to answer, she didn't even dared and cared to jump in and try to help her by continuing the answer right where she was having troubles. All she did was just continuously staring at her partner right to her face, she didn't even look down or the other way whenever Charity was having trouble answering and began to stutter and what not. Wow she is an amazing partner and really helped a lot pitching and answering em questions in this show 👌

That poor woman. They both should know their products and business inside and out. One partner may know more, but that other woman was dreadfully useless. You don't let your partner fail while you stand silent. At least try to jump in and answer questions. If that's how she reacts in one of the most important moments of their lives, she may want to look at a different partner.
