David meets up with Matt of Ozark Overland Adventures to explore one of Matt's favorite camp sites located on a waterfall. Part 1 takes you on the journey toward the campsite and to what is known as 60 ft falls. A beautiful waterfall located on the way to the campsite that has an awesome overlook as well. David finds out what his Jeep can do and is surprised what you can do with minimally modified Jeep. It doesn't take 38" tires and maximized everything to have a great adventure. Depending on what your focus is, and careful navigation, you can do a lot with a lot less. #jeepoffroad

If you are interested in a sway bar disconnect check out the JKS. I’ve got the electronic system built into my rubicon, but I really like having the added convenience of being able to disconnect any time I want. I do a lot of trails that may not require 4wd, but benefit from the added articulation of a disconnected sway bar. That’s where the JKS disconnects come in handy for me. It’s also a backup to the electric system.

I have been looking at getting a disconnect. I’ll check out JKS.. I would like one I can implement from the inside like the rub has but not sure what’s out there for that

Totally agree with your trade off comment, I would love to run 35-37 inch tires, but I also tow a trailer often and bigger tires kill horsepower. Since I live in Oklahoma and most of my adventures take me to far away places I need that horsepower, especially on the highway just so I can maintain a measly 65mph. So for now sticking with the stock Rubicon tires. Nice video though, my family and I did a trip to that 60 Ft waterfall last year over memorial day, very cool!

I like your rationale on 34" vs 35" tires. If I go the Jeep route I will probably do 34" for the better MPGs
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife 2 года назад
I'm going to be having to get new tires soon. There are some Toyo's that are 35 but still 10.5"... weight is still about what I have with the Nitto. Toyo makes Nitto. I may give them a shot. Would give me a bit of lift especially when aired down which could be useful but should still keep good on road performance. Haven't decided yet but its hard to complain with what I have got out of the Nitto's. I'll end up getting about 50k out of them.

Another great video. I always enjoy your open commentary on what it really takes to enjoy the outdoors versus an infomercial for all the “extras” that some people say are necessary for overlanding.

Thank you David, for all the awesome stories. I am picking up my Hatchet Overland camper in the next month! They mentioned you have hooked your solar panel into a DIY system. Can you detail what that system is, or do a short video episode tour? Would be so helpful.

Congrats on getting the Camper!! you will love it! You know thats a great idea about the video.. I hadn't wanted to do a video yet until it was fully tested but now i'm pretty confident in how well its working. I can quickly tell you here what I'm doing but yeah, i'll work on getting a video done. The setup I'm currently using is a single renergy 100w panel (it has been sufficient but I may end up getting a second one primarily due to the draw that the Starlink system puts on the Jackery). that renergy is wired into a Victron MPPT 100v 20 amp charge controller. The charge controller currently charges my jeep battery but I may at some point have it charge a dedicated 100ah battleborn but more on that later if i decide to move that direction. Currently it charges the jeep battery and the jeep battery charges the jackery 1000 and the jackery powers my fridge and all my electronics (i have a custom charge bank that is AC wired in to the jackery to charge camera, drone, actioncam, etc). So far, the jeep battery never got below 12v while i was running all of those needs. However, now that I have added starlink to the mix (it pulls about the same power as the fridge) I dont know that I will have enough to keep me topped off with the 100w panel. So I may add another 100w panel on top and possibly route that power to a 100ah battery that i will mount under my rear passenger seat (I have a 60% goosegear delete kit, so i left 1 seat where i leave my jackery). If you dont run starlink this setup with 1 100w and a jackery 1000 is enough to do anything you likely will need to do especially if only doing weekend stuff. jackery gets a lot cheaper if you dont have to get the panels (i now have panels that i no longer carry with me due to the efficiency of the 100w renergy always working.) I hope that helps.. I'll work on getting a video done though, I think its a great idea. Enjoy your new camper!! FYI, i have included links in the above description for the parts I bought including the jackery. Those are all affiliate links so it helps the channel if you buy through those and doesn't cost you anything..

Although my setup is somewhat DIY from the prospective of using it to charge the jackery, I did have hatchet install the panel and the charge controller as they routed it far better than I would have every realized I could. So before buying it all and trying to put it in, I'd consider working with them so they can have it done already for you if you are wanting it. Also, I believe if I had it to do over again, I'd probbaly go ahead and get the second panel. Since the Victron manages the battery, it would reduce the chance of my battery getting low while i'm pushing the jackery hard and i could just leave it in. Plus, if i ever go to the 2000 or even the 1500 I would have more watts to help charge it back up.

Thank you! I have asked for a two-panel install already, but you bring up a good point about having the charge controller installed by Hatchet Overland as well. I’ve been using a Jackery 1000 as well, pulled from my last camper setup. I have a 4xe so the Jeep battery setup is slightly different, but I am hoping will operate similar to yours: Jackery charged by the Jeep 12v battery, which is then kept topped up from the high-voltage battery. In that mix, the panels will keep the Jeep 12v charged as much as possible. I live and mostly travel the Pacific Northwest: not really known for producing great solar energy! Thanks again for the info, hope all is well with you.

Does the willy's not have a sway bar disconnect?
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife 2 года назад
unfortunately not. it has the skid plates of rub, mine has a dana 44 front axle but that is due to diesel engine, has rock rails but no disconnect or lockers, or front camera. i do have the auxiliary switch plate which is very useful. doesn't have the bigger screen or integrated maps although that is pretty irrelevant. most of the other stuff is actually. the disconnect and lockers are the big things i miss.

So are your tires 34/ 11.50
@aMAYSingLife
@aMAYSingLife Год назад
Believe those Nittos were 34 10.5. I like the thinner tire as it does well in so many conditions and is nice ride on road. I have the Toyo Open Country AT now and although I technically prefer the Nitto they aren’t worth the 100/tire premium to the Toyo.. and Toyo makes Nitto so can’t be too diff.
