Great review! Laughing here as I looked at the cold cuts and bread plate and thought "blimey, that's a decent breakfast" and then you said "to start with"........chortle!
Hi mate. Lovely hotel. I'm a big heavy metal fan for years did all the major festivals in Germany Belgium etc, myself and gf being over 60 don't camp hotel or a little pension. Great value, welcoming. Love that breakfast so much choice. Sadly not been to Germany since 2020 🥲🥲. But were still together after 11 years met at a concert the year I had my double cardiac arrest 😮. Vienna is an expensive city but so much culture and history. Have you travelled from UK by train? Loving the videos stay safe my friend. Bakeries in Austria and Germany offer good breakfasts cooked before your eyes ❤. Cheers Jonathan
Thanks for the detailed comment Jonathan 🙂 Double cardiac arrest sounds like the name of a band you might have seen at a German Rock Festival!! I flew over but with the 3 hour drive to Stansted to get my flight I almost wish I had picked another mode of transport, train is certainly a great way to get around once you’ve arrived in this part of the world.
@GreenoEats Absolutely a regret I never did the Interail back in the day. Was I think in 70s about £149 for one month rail travel, in those days apart from first class any ICE TGV etc. Reminds me of Round The World programme ah freedom days
@@747jono yeah, I'm the same, just never got round to Interrailling round Europe, and then real grown up life happened. On this trip I saw a bunch of folk doing exactly that, small groups from the UK, Sweden and others, with a large backpack hopping from hostel to hostel seeing the world.
Absolutely - and although I ate well it felt like a lighter breakfast than I would have had in a UK hotel. Which given it was 33 degrees outside by lunchtime was not unwelcome !!
Nice breakfast, hardly a speck of grease to be seen. The "marbled" eggs looked really good. Top-shelf nosh there, Mr. Greeno!!! Thanks for the upload. 😊
One of the best continental breakfast spreads I have had in a long time. Stayed in a lot of hotels in Europe over the years, and many a lot more expensive than this one (if work was paying!). But this breakfast was right up there let me tell you!
It was a nice little hotel - great location, friendly and helpful staff and a nice room as you say. The breakfast was excellent, shame I only had one night there!
That looked really nice, perfect size room for one person. The breakfast looked nice as well, to be able to have hot and cold options great. Look forward to seeing your next port of call!
It was a great little hotel - top notch service from start to finish - nice little touches around (the light in the wardrobe for example). Really enjoyed the breakfast, set me up perfectly for the day ahead. Hungary next !
@@GreenoEats hi Greeno yes it would be wonderful to take your family there for a Vacation! Really love seeing these different Countries and cultures Greeno as atm age 67 it would abit difficult as am on a Pension!
@@user-ye2ge4zo5lhennypenny I think it would have to be a long weekend with Mrs Greeno - the kids would just moan about wandering around looking at buildings and museums!
What was your favorite dish from the breakfast spread, and what made the hotel's breakfast experience stand out to you? Also, are you on Facebook / Insta? I'd love to connect and see more of your culinary adventures and travel experiences! Let's keep in touch!
I particularly enjoyed the cold meat selection. Great food and great service made the breakfast. All of my relevant socials are linked in my channel description if you need them :-)
Ha ha - I avoided the prosecco, but there was one table with 2 women who I counted having 3 glasses each 🍾 A bit early for that level of consumption !!
@@GreenoEats I remember beeing to Antwerp with my Mom and we have had a few glass of champagne for breakfast, not the best idea in the world to be honest.
That looked like a lovely breakfast, smoked salmon on rye is great, and for me my favorite breakfast is salmon, cream cheese, and a slice of red onion on a toasted bagel.I haven’t had a fry up since sometime in the late 1980’s and all I could think was did we really eat this, after years of not eating English fry ups,it just all seemed so greasy.I’m not a fat free type person,I like my butter, and cheese,I will use cream in sauces, eat ice cream, but some things are to me unpleasantly greasy, never eat the fat on any meat, pork belly a nightmare.I think a lot more people would find a fry ups not to their taste,if they lived somewhere it wasn’t available to them for many years, and then one day they had it again.I think our tastes change if we let them, but if we are unwilling to try other foods, then nothing changes.Looking forward to the rest of your European trip, stay safe.😊
That’s interesting what you say about not trying things for years and then finding them less pleasant. There’s certainly a nostalgia we hold for things we enjoyed in the past, and when trying them again the promise of something wonderful is not fulfilled. Us Brits are probably the most stuck in our ways of all nations when it comes to the less healthy foods though. I was talking to Mrs Greeno the other day about how Brits go on holiday and stick the British food, eating pie, chips and gravy in Majorca or similar, and it just blew her mind.
I should have thought of that - as after that breakfast I walked the almost 3 miles to the station in swetering heat, and didn't eat again until later in the evening in Hungary!
That certainly was a lovely brekkie, the cold spread looked so fresh, made me crave watermelon ! Have you ever tried a feta and watermelon salad ? It’s delicious. Enjoying these videos from your European mini tour 👍🏻
@@KarenAllison-b2i Feta and watermelon is indeed a great combination, the sweet and the salty really work. Next video from my trip coming up in the next half hour 🙂
I really enjoyed the video as always Greeno, I thought the breakfast looked really good. We are so fixated on a full English breakfast in the UK it really is good to try something different and more healthy! All the best ….Smithy
I'd love it if you could get such a wide variety of foods at a UK breakfast buffet. Don't get me wrong, I love a full English as much as the next man, but the selection here of cold meats, cheeses, breads etc. was just amazing. Such a lot of choice, good quality and nicely presented.
@@theabandonedhunter3604 can't beat a bit of black pudding. I was once in an indoor market in somewhere like Bury or Blackburn, and got a black pudding bap with brown sauce for myself and my then boss who was appalled by it lol !
Bonjour Greeno, that's your actual French 🤭what a proper linguist I am🤔🤫What a beltin' great room, small but beautifully crafted and put together. Cucumber and red pepper?? Why no tomatoes? The healthy brown bread, full of rough fibre, the bowels are ringing 😊🚽🧻frankinstine sausage looked fine, small but ok, nearly scrambled eggs 😢needed to be whisked a bit more. I thought the boiled egg had a very dark yolk, or was that the lighting 🤔🕯️💡Your sweet course seemed fine, and good coffee can't be overlooked. Sadly I still think that apple juice always makes me feel all Bear Gyrills, sorry but it does. And has to be said, good value for money ( even monopoly money ie Euros 😂😂) Cheers Allan&Family
Ha ha, the Bear Grylls bit, never thought of it like that before. Have to put that out of my mind otherwise it's gonna have to be orange juice from now on! I thought this was a hotel with lots of nice little touches, the light in the wardrobe for example. No bogeyman hiding in there!!
Also love you can eat a little later. If you can't get a decent cup of coffee in Vienna its the end of the world. The little bread roll is called a semel Germany has over 1,000 different types of bread best in the world for me ❤. Take care mate. Sorry once I get talking I can't stop 😂😂😂❤❤
It was a very tasty breakfast indeed. But what I can't understand is why everyone is referencing the Ultravox Vienna, when the Billy Joel song Vienna is a better tune (in my opinion!)
Love this Greeno Sir. Vienna is Strauss? then again Ultravox changed my life. I laugh at the comparison with Premier Inn. Euros 145 is a bargain. That breakfast alone is worth Euros 40
In the 5 days I spent in Europe I don't think I had bad service anywhere, whether it was bar, restaurant or hotel. In Central European countries there are even hospitality schools where you can do vocational training. It's seen as important for sure.
You can probably tell by my build that I also enjoy a fry up. But on a day where it got up to 33 degrees I must confess that something a little lighter that sits easier on the stomach was just the ticket 🙂
you may have more value in the cold meats if you get enough of them red pepper no tomato. The pork pepper roll use to get in the past that had large slices of pepper in but you cant get it now. May be get a few fruit in the plastic pots or some boiled eggs for later for a snack. or take in a plastic clicky box and collect something for dinner and save money
I'm not sure they're gonna be happy if I turn up with a load of Tupperware and clean them out ha ha! And those pots were glass, so I don't think I could have got away with robbing them 🤣
Are you swearing at us Greeno? 😲Continental over full English - NEVER! 😂 Continental is the starter! (Cereals, cheese, ham, croissants, bread, jam, yogurt, fresh fruit 😋) It’s there to tickle your tastebuds in preparation for the cooked options 👍 Lots of places abroad provide the above and full English as part of their cooked options 👏 Wouldn’t accept anything less than both options especially for £145 p/night! 🤨
I do find it funny how we as Brits always expect there to be a full English breakfast available wherever we are in the world, and are then disappointed when it’s different sausages or bacon than we are used to at home 🤣
I have to say that a continental breakfast does sit a little easier on the stomach than a full English / Irish / Scottish does. But the continental breakfast over here in the British Isles is just dismal. Bowl of coco pops and a croissant and you're done!
I think the problem with a Continental in the UK is you get some generic sliced bread, some plastic ham and some cheese food type cheese and some plastic individual servings of cheap jam and if you are lucky nutella. rest of europe does a selection of fresh breads, selection of cheeses, selection of meats all normally top draw.
Don't get me wrong, I do love a fry up. But given the fact it was gonna be 33 degrees that day, having a slightly lighter option for breakfast was absolutely perfect!
So, to answer the video title directly: "Can a CONTINENTAL Breakfast beat a FULL ENGLISH", yes but not a FULL IRISH 😝Sorry Greeno. I have been to Vienna many times and I would say, the breakfast you had was definitely above average.
I must confess, some of the best hotel breakfasts I have had were in places I stayed in Limerick (in a previous life I used to visit the Dell factory there a lot). Getting both black and white pudding, and soda bread too, what a treat!
On a cold, gloomy British day not much beats a full English in my book - but when there is a good continental selection it's probably my favourite ! We just don't get a good continental breakfast here in the UK.
Ha ha, no, I just expressed a liking for it at some point, so whenever people can't think what to buy me for birthday or Xmas it's North Face stuff I get... the amount of publicity I give them they should bung me a few free tops though right 😂
I understand that - I am merely saying that compared to most other centrally located Vienna hotels it was reasonably priced. Most others that I saw for the same evening were 200+ Euro - the bigger name chain brands were 300-500 Euro!!
Actually that's a good idea to try sometime. Next week I show a small hotel in Bratislava which was a lot cheaper than the Vienna one - I will be interested to see your thoughts on that one when it comes out :-)
