Can a small Generator power a Ac unit ??? 

depends mostly on the watage of the appliances

@VogueRyder214 on 1.2 gallon under full heavy load no ac cycling in 100 degrees poorly insulated building during the middle of the day It ran 6.5 hours with economy mode turned off. I ran it again last week with economy mode on for refrigerator and upright freezer and 65 inch tv at same time, it ran 11.5 hours

@@paulf3 what I was planning initially was 3000 watt remote starter FIRMAN with mini split AC 12000 BTU AC is eventually expensive but worth or AC which is mounted on roof of RVs or some extended sleeper cabs. I did lots of finding and read reviews and come up with this idea , aswell Thermo King guys advised same one on roof , so checkout

@@paulf3 I got Kenworth studio sleeper and I live in cold weather four months max summer my cab AC was rusted so I fixed mine factory fitted this year with new parts ,I will build inverter generator next year.

An inverter generator has an inverter installed inside it. It converts the DC power created by the generator to 120v 60 cycle AC power, such as you have in your house. The inverter also makes the power ‘clean’ to safely run electronic devices that could be damaged by a regular unregulated generator. All in all, an inverter generator is a bit more expensive that an industrial style generator (meant to run power tools) but for normal usage it is more fuel efficient, the generator is lighter, and it runs the things you will want to hook up to it. For big-current draw jobs, like running an air conditioner, it is simply a case of matching the gen’s power to the power consumption of the AC. There are many videos on RU-vid that show different size inverter generators running various sizes of AC. Happy camping!

As yo your other question; DO NOT run a generator inside the van. Any gas or propane motor creates carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, either of which can put your lights out. Permanently! Set the gen outside, at least ten feet away. Point the exhaust away from your vehicle, or any other neighbors so they don’t get upset at the noise. Most of these are very quiet at a couple dozen feet away. I would suggest securing the generator to your van with a stout chain and lock so that it doesn’t wander off in the middle of the night. 😊

Is it a 240 volt 3500 watt generator or a 120 volt 3500 watt generator, a 240 volt 3500 watt you have to divide it by 2 since you are pulling from 1 leg 120 volt which is 1750 watts

I only ran it a few hours at a time

It burns a little more cause the rpms are kicked up when powering the ac. But these generators are still very efficient

chuck, well som beach! I thought you needed a min of 3000w for a small ac, probably good that I thought that cause otherwise there would have been a window Ac in a f450 a couple years ago.
