you have 10 seconds to check the oil before it drains into the dry sump enough to be inaccurate. yes in the video it took me 25 seconds that's because I was showing it on camera. Just follow the procedure and you will be checking the oil correctly.
In this video I show you exactly how to go about checking your oil level properly.
This has been a very controversial topic since the Can-Am Ryker came out on the market. I have spoke with several BRP Representatives. I have also spoke with the head maintenance technician at two different BRP certified dealerships and service centers.

These are the steps you need to take when you are checking your oil level on the Can-Am Ryker this applies to all models.
1: take the vehicle for a 9 Mile ride. this will ensure that all the oil is distributed throughout the motor and that it is at running temperature. just letting it idle until it's at running temperature will not achieve this.
2: open the air vent and have a paper towel handy before you shut the bike off.
3: shut the vehicle off you now have 10 seconds.
4: within 10 seconds you need to remove the dipstick wipe it off once and put it back in. make sure you thread it all the way down and then unthread it again and look where the oil level is.
5: that is officially your oil level if it's in the middle there is no need to add oil or take away oil.
6: a motor that is overfilled with oil can do more damage quicker than in motor that has low oil.

Shit! Thanks Bill for the vid. My wife’s brand new Sport has been having me scratch my head. It’s got 400 miles on it and I checked the level and NOTHING on the stick! I’m like wtf, I added half quart to get it in range. We rode just 80 miles one day and I checked the oil again the next day and nothing on the stick! Lol. The dry sump system explains it then. It’s migrating out of the oil tank to the crankcase while sitting. Well I’m probably half quart overfill now. Time for it’s break in oil change. Very important video for those new Ryker owners. Oh, and another important thing for viewers to know is that damn VSS and limp mode. She was indeed overlapping the brake and throttle when she first started riding it and that had me losing my mind. Since then the limp mode went away (after nearly 40 miles) and never came back. These things the salesmen at the dealers should be warning buyers about at the time of sale because here I was thinking we got ourselves a lemon. Thanks again for the video Bill. The wife loves her Ryker and I’m starting to have a liking for the machine also. I currently own a 2019 Road Glide and a 2005 Busa and love them both. I might be interested in a F3 someday if BRP stuffs a 200hp motor in one. Till then I’ll patiently enjoy my Busa.

Great video Bill! Very professional information. I learned a lot, especially about the pump draining the oil and about riding the bike for at least 9 miles. I just thought it had to be warm. Didn't know you only had 10 seconds!! So stressful! LOL!!

I Believe the correct procedure includes idling for 10 minutes before shutting off as well. Probably does not make a huge difference, but still wanted to Point it out :)

Alternative : get a bung to match dipstick hole and keep the dipstick DRY in a plastic bag , ready to check oil - without wasting precious seconds during this farce to check something as important as oil level 🦂 Or , cut dipstick shaft off and use bung - and buy a fresh dipstick , bag it and use when needed 🤓

I have the treal performance intake system on the left side which is the air intake side... In this video I wanted to show the factory OEM filter and how to change it... I do run a k&N air filter on the right side.. CVT transmission side.. Just wanted to show the OEM stuff on video since that would apply to most people..

You can run the k&N filter on both sides without any issues... you won't really see any performance gains from running it on the right side but you will never have to buy another filter just clean it every 6,000 MI..

Bill, I've been wondering if there is a way to correlate the stone cold oil level to the warmed up (9 mile, 10 second) oil level? Does the cold engine oil level even register on the dipstick?

No this vehicle has a dry sump which means the oil drains from the main part where it would normally be down into a tank where it sits. You have to check it after riding the bike for 9 miles and then you have 10 seconds to check it when you shut the vehicle down after 10 seconds that oil level is no longer the proper oil level

I tried this technique tonight, but I heard the oil drain after literally 2 seconds. Didn’t even time to get the dipstick out the first time to clean it. Maybe it drains faster on a 600? Frustrating!

Yes you definitely have to be quick. When you pull back into the driveway leave the bike running and get ready to remove that dipstick as soon as you shut that bike off

No that's just the dealership trying to make a little bit of money your first oil change is due after 6,000 mi and every 6,000 miles or one year whichever comes first after that

I've asked myself the same question LOL I am going by what three different BRP technicians have told me that's where I get my information from certified mechanic for BRP and certified technician for BRP... I totally understand your question and I agree with you 100%. I was thinking to myself what if there is no oil in there and you don't know and then you go ride the bike for 9 miles to find out there was no oil to begin with. I literally asked myself that a million times.. I don't have an answer for that...

I have double-checked everything and it is spot-on where it's supposed to be.. while filming the video I was actually a little slow to actually check the oil.. it should be right in the middle.. if you wait longer than 10 seconds you are too late.. it literally has to be within 10 seconds of checking the oil after you shut the bike off..

@@BLRTUNING I feel like if the kit is so precise and the bike isn't leaking oil after 10 mins of idle there is no need to check it. Just leak check it and go about your day.

Yes that's what I do. I usually have everything prepared and ready to go. So loosen up the dipstick get a paper towel ready shut the bike off pull the dipstick clean it off dip it back in there and then check the oil.
