Can CHEAP elastic still perform? 🤔 

Started on solid, years ago, went to hollow, then to hybrid. I am now fishing with solid again, less drama (hollow), less elastic breaking at the connector (hybrid) and I'm using Drennan, as it's such good value for money. I have a feeling that this thing is going to go full circle and in a year or two, the likes of Jamie Hughes et al, will be telling us to use solid elastic. This will inevitably involve a price hike, from the tackle manufactures/suppliers, so that the poor old angler, gets stung again.

I’ve found the SRG and Drennan elastics great. Being on a pension always looking for a bargain. I use the Drennan yellow for skimmer fishing, but have landed carp to 8 lbs on it.

I tried the Drennan and found it to be slightly stronger than other hybrids for the same diameter. I use the MAP hybrid and found it to be the best hybrid for longevity I’ve tried (I’ve tried quite a few!).

I’ve tried most hybrids, Drennan being one of the better lasting of them, but I’ve still reverted back to to Daiwa hydro because it actually works out cheaper because it out lasts hybrids by a country mile. Got sick of having to change the hybrid within a few weeks and yes I made sure it wasn’t getting damaged by the sun.

I moved other to this after having a few issues at tunnel barn. Spoke to the guy in the tackle shop and started in the red and didn’t lose a fish again. Now have it in all my top kits from yellow, red, blue and purple. Top electric and great value for money.

I used it last year i used the 2.2mm (purple) for carp i couldn't fault it and 6m does 2 of my maver top 2 kits so its extremely good value for money but if im totally honest it does wear a little quicker than the slick or dura slip but ive found that the map tks hybrid is 6m too and not much more money than the drennen and its a bit more robust

Tom, try the elastics from SRG Polefloats, i have used nothing else for 6 years,and have only had to changed some of them once (and i fish four days a week)superb elastics and very cheap

i went back to hollow the summer just gone as i found like tom they was not lasting long ive had some hybrid elastic last 3 matches catching carp which is dreadful so went back to preston original hollow which the best in my opinion will still use hybrid in winter and slip

I've been using since summer and it the nuts

Caught literally thousands and thousands of lbs of carp last summer on various colours of hydro. Mainly grey, black and huge bags in the edge on red hydro…. Never changed it once. Lasted all season. Costs more but lasts. Love slik in winter but hydro lasts and gets the job done if after durability!

I tried it. Yellow through long kit. Too soft and wouldnt set hook on small fish. Most fell off. Changed elastic to solid 6 and was no problem. All fish stayed on.

Just a reminder that Drennan do a silverfish elastic, Bungee 4-6 ,best elastic for me is preston Hollo👌

I have a question, on the Drennan power pull yellow 1.4mm RATING 7 TO 9, what is the max diameter of line that I can fish this elastic with? I mainly use reflo power from Preston.

Dan's Elastic hollow is better and cheaper at the lower grades. Tried the yellow drennan on my first winter league match at tunnel and found it very under gunned with even small F1s

Had the drennan elastic in my kits since the summer, still going strong! Tried the new MAP elastic and found the quality terrible, it literally lasted a week.

I just use a rod and reel.

For me too much emphasis is put down to elastic and blame is put down to whether it was too strong or too light but never the blame to the angler or hook use. Its a fair comment i make that hardly any fish were lost when we didnt have side pullers or pulla bungs! There lies the problem small fish yank it in,big fish yank it in. Its all the same,its just one person feels he can cope with this and another thinks he copes better with that! But why put it all down to the elastic i have no idea!

Dont forget this is where pole fishing all started, of course products have got better as times gone on and elastics have evolved, but lets not act like these products are bad or unusable

Why has this been categorized as cheap elastic most are in this price range now or is hydro setting the bench mark
