I literally pulled the Umbreon out of a blister pack I bought from Walmart....graded a 10 and till this day my favorite most surprising pull, and yes it made me an addict lol
I would say addiction is not a good thing but Pokémon is definitely the lesser of the evils. I used to smoke heavy on cigarettes, now i don’t smoke but i get smoked by pokémon cards 😂
Phillip, This is what places your content into the S tier. I can tell you really care about the community and topics like this you discuss proves your energy in that department. Love your videos and thanks from everyone for keeping it real. ✌️
Glad you mention these issues as we only usually hear about the great pulls/ gains. Mentioning the negative aspects of the hobby sets you apart from other channels. It's great how you highlight actionable behaviours that can transfer from this hobby to every day life. It's not all easy profits and people need to be wary of how addictive this can get.
That’s why it’s important you have you have a second hobby, mine is mountain biking. Money goes onto fuel instead of disappointing packs, especially days when it’s Sunny. I leave the collecting days to open 2-3 packs when the weekend is a washout.
Definitely can get addicted to opening and collecting. Opening packs is exciting and when you get that sweet card for sure the dopamine. Great awareness video
Pulled the Lugia V alt rare from a Silver Tempest booster pack 2 weeks ago and bought more packs since I was running that luck "high." I was humbled once more and now I'm good 😂
It sucks because even for me, I love opening packs but I buy singles now but I usually buy a pack here and there and I truly think luck is on my side and I’m going to pull something good then, it doesn’t happen. Then I get pissed. It’s all a gamble 100%
I really wonder if that’s where this illustration change came from in Pokémon. More bright, action packed, and eye pleasing arts fill us with dopamine even if we don’t get that “chase” card leading us to feeling like oh we are so close, just one more sorta idea like you said It’s such a slippery slope and being open about it is very helpful in preventing problematic situations. So thank you for being a voice to many who may need it and not even realize it 👍
I wonder how the big youtubers, who open 100's and 100's of packs every stream, would mentally deal with not being to open all those pack if it all went wrong for them, it can't be good to hit the brain with that much dopamine and if the rip and ship demand decreased how would you cope, it would be like coming off hard drugs.
You have really grown on me as a creator, thank you for all the videos. You love the hobby, but you love people more. It feels like alot of creators capatalize on either the divide and controversy of the hobby, or the hyper analystic side and both are very unhealthy.
1 last silver tempest ETB humbled me. A $40 single is so much more rewarding. I have a few sealed products as displays now. Happy to trade them for a slab I want in the future! 🙏🏼❤️ Great video as always brother
good on you for exploring this issue! addiction doesn't get highlighted enough and is very relevant to this hobby! In my day job i come across a lot of addictive personalities.....
I wish I’d had the money to order that many og packs. Hell, I was like 8 when they came out and I only got a few packs once a month and if I was lucky I’d just save up my lunch money and not eat all week at school and spend the money there.
why not just buy pages of promo cards? they start off at like $3-$5 canadian and usualy end up going for $10-$20 later on. i have binders full of cheap promos its not really possible to lose that much money if my initial investments are $3 a card.
I us to open everything i bought when i started collecting. Now i open maybe 10% of what i buy. Mostly i just buy sealed that keep and singles to collect..
Thanks for pointing this out. I was really getting into debt trying to keep up with youtubers and lots of fomo. I’ve watched your videos and decided as of now to take a break for the rest of the year. I might get one booster box on black Friday but thats about it lol. Thank you for content like this.
I left home when I was 15 years old and I was on the streets partying and do a drugs for almost 5 years. I know all about addiction. That’s why I tried control my spending in this hobby with sometimes it is difficult with all the unnecessary hype and manipulation going on. It’s extremely disheartening. To the point where even though I absolutely love Pokémon and have spent over $15,000 in the past six years, I’m at the point where I feel I wanted to call it quits because of all the shenanigans in the hobby. Everything moves too fast and everyone thinks everything is about gains.
@@phillips.collectibles definitely brother. I’m waiting to feel out the market after Christmas and January. In the meantime, I’m focusing on more important life goals
I just buy singles when they hit lows lol. My only miniscule financial gain are from booster boxes. Quick question, anyone else think I should get a twilight masquerade booster box?
I don't have any desire to rip packs honestly, the money I can spend is really limited and the cards I want are basically infinite. Buying packs is the best way to have my goals go farther and farther away from me. Singles all the way xV
A very important topic was covered in this video thank you so much. I’ve almost cried at my local game shop after spending $240 opening loose packs. The only thing that kept the tears away were the fact that kids were walking in and out the store..
@@phillips.collectiblesjust uploaded a short of my eeveelution binder page. All Moonbreons, Promos, and Vmax Leafeon pulled by me and the rest I purchased last year before the alternate art madness
The most real Pokémon video on RU-vid. We collect, spend, enjoy, and splurge, but one MUST be aware and mustn't be niave towards the dark side of Pokémon collecting 😉 we mustn't disregard the strain thats connected with risk of reward.
The problem is who can open just 1 box and be satisfied. I couldnt be satisfied if I opened multiple god packs in a row. Thank you for your videos Phil. I try to catch em all
