ya, she was taken down by off-balancing her around an arm kept in tension during the takedown. It was terrible form because cops don't get nearly enough training on how to grapple, but that was pretty much what the cop described. Also, she has his baton in her hand, and it even appears that she tries to extend it a couple times. She's actually lucky he didn't go for spray or a tazer, since most use of force policies tell officers to go 1 level higher than the person fighting them. At the point where she has an extendable baton and is trying (failing, but trying) to use it, he had a lot more serious options. It is also important to note that despite her being incredibly nonathletic, weak, and incapable of using the weapon she had in her hand, batons are still incredibly dangerous. I could probably kill you with that baton using less force than the elderly woman is capable of generating. Now it, just so happens that the officer kept wrist control on her arm that had the baton so she never had a chance to do that. This is the one thing he did well in the grappling exchange. But had he lost wrist control, things could have gone badly for him. In short. Cop was gentle with her, all things considered.

A real "tough guy" cop here...I wish cops would fight MMA in their free time. Oh I had several run ins with cops in the early 90's coming home late from my restaurant job. One time I was grabbed from behind without warning (i had headphones on) and thrown to the ground. Mouth bloody and massive headache cop just laughed it off with his cop buddies saying "thats what you get when you dont listen". When I attempted to complain to another cop that cop asked me if I wanted resisting charges and thats what would happen if I complained. Turns out I broke my cheekbone and missed 2 months of rugby. Essentially losing my spot on the team. Cop thought I was under 18 out after curfew. Once they checked my ID they finally let me go without medical help and laughing at me as they took off.

Cameras haven't really improved anything. 90% of the videos I've seen have either been bodycam or dashcam footage. It's especially useless when cops can mute or disable their cameras whenever the fuck they want for no reason or "misplace" the footage if they forget to turn off their camera. It really should be considered federal evidence tampering, that way we don't need to rely on each state/municipality to do the right thing.

This is such an accurate statement. And prior to all the videos of cops abusing their authority and power, they were respected and automatically believed because, well, they are police officers. So if you were sitting in court as a Defendant and the decision of credibility had to be decided, it was automatically in favor of the law enforcement officer. So imagine, how many of these idiots got away with abusing the community without any recourse. Terrifying thought. I live in the community that the Karen Garner assault occured. I cannot imagine ppl not hearing about it as it was such an egregious act of abuse on an elderly person by an officer I have seen, however, one should google it, and take a look. It's disgusting and hard to watch. I believe the city paid her somewhere in the area of 6 million dollars (which was absolutely a fair settlement as they broke her bones and left her sitting for hours as she screamed for help and they sat rewartching the BWC, laughing and reminicing about how they took down an elderly lady w/dementia) and the officers involved where fired, charged and convicted as I believe these officers should be. The climate LE believes they work in is a shameful excuse for their behavior. LE mock black ppl for being afraid of being murdered by cops, but somehow believe their lives are in danger with every stop they make. Crazy.... Sorry for my soapbox rant, however, I think we are ALL so tired of watching LE behave in this manner and getting away with it a majority of the time because they investigate themselves!

Here's some actual *EVIDENCE* ... at 3:15 I can see the woman's car (seen from the point of view of the cop car) and I can see the wash of the woman's car's headlights in front of the car, on *BOTH SIDES* of the woman's car. That immediately tells me that BOTH headlights are working. Ergo, the cop is *LYING* .

5:48 "...stop for a broken headlight" ... and as I said above, the video ALREADY SHOWS that *BOTH* headlights are actually working. Ergo, the cop is lying.

8:35 onwards: those cops are breathing heavily, indicating they have been exerting themselves, meaning they have been violently accosting the woman. (also one of the cops says "I yanked her out the vehicle")

It only serves to guarantee the goal is not actual justice. DEI policies assure that the best candidate for the job is not being sought, assuring a lesser candidate is hired or promoted. People demand perfection from police then applaud the implementation of these policies which assure the quality of service will be diminished. Poor leadership...incompetent supervisors who don't do their jobs and don't have the experience and knowledge to teach their subordinates to be good cops...and fail to monitor...to evaluate...to supervise their subordinates leave them to fend for themselves, pick up bad habits and poorly informed lessons from more experienced officers who have just been doing it wrong for longer just leaves patrol officers to realize there's no correction coming for misconduct. The supervisors cover for them so poorly performing subordinates don't shine badly on them. And they learn there's no accountability as long as you don't end up on the news doing something crazy. Then they'll get thrown under the bus, the supervisor isn't accountable And nothing ever changes.

At 1:16 he spins her in the struggle and the baton in her hand hits the side of her car. At 1:18 he rips it out of her hand after she is on the ground.

Why is it the officers fault she fought and got back in her car? Unfortunately the USSC says it is reasonable for an officer to order you out of the car anytime they want during a stop. Unfortunately he doesn't need much of a reason. Her fighting would be considered obstruction/resisting/assault on officer in most places. Had she complied with his "lawful" order she'd never have gotten out of the car a second time and this wouldn't have happened.

My thought exactly. I drove at night on the job for years, and a couple of times had a malfunctioning headlight. Cop pulled me over, told me what was wrong, gave me a "get it fixed by this date" ticket and sent me on my way. This whole interaction was nuts.

It is the way they are trained. Today's police forces are trained in military tactics and in military combat training you are trained to react first with necessary force to kill or subdue the enemy, the details can be worked out later, but you are alive. I read an article many years ago discussing this, when they first started the training program, they hired ex-military to do the training. One of them said afterword's that he had strong reservations about it. He believed using military tactics in a civilian environment was going to get innocent people killed. It looks to me like he was right we see more and more of these violent arrests and shootings by the police. He said military combat training is shoot first asked questions later mindset.
