I had read somewhere that Laika is no longer going to do stop motion movies involving kids...this leads me to believe that sequels will be coming with older versions of the kids; I also hope that they get tied in together (Coraline, Paranorman, Kubo) at some juncture should this indeed be the route they take. A girl can dream! haha

Exactly! It wrapped up too nicely and in a way that didn't address all the issues. If she were truly home, I would expect to see Coraline having to deal with her family being boring or mean sometimes - and definitely not seeing the cat walk through a portal hole!

Yeah and if she "was" in the real world and the snow globe broke, her real mother would have a bitchin' fit on Coraline because that was her favorite snow globe. But no, she was calm about it and act like it was nothing to her or something.

And the cat was only able to teleport in the other world...not the real one. So at the end when the cat teleported into the “pink palace “ Hanging sign....shows that they where still in the other world

Her parents clearly loved her at the beginning, however they have their quirks like most parents. Her mother and father were stressed about work and bore heavy financial burdens, her mother even said that if the catalog did well that she would make up for her lack of attentiveness and inability to give Coraline the things that she desired, and even showed a tinge of regret when Coraline rebuffed her claims. The parents returning and being kinder to Coraline isn’t an absurd or far fetched idea. You have to remember that we are looking through Coraline’s eyes in the movie. Coraline had a different perspective by the end of the movie and learned to appreciate the people in her life more after her encounter with the Beldam. Also, I think that the cat going through the portal was a hint to the fact that the cat himself is an otherworldly entity, and possesses some form of magical ability, it is not proof that Coraline is in limbo. I think it proves that the other world still exists in some form, but it is not evidence of a limbo pink palace.

1. I do believe Vermin is good, but extensively in his story, I actually come to terms with how he’s possibly Wyborn’s ancestor, Great Grandfather be it. After the loss of say, Great Grandfather Lovat’s daughter (the lost twin . . .) he’s “reincarnated” to a cat. Symbolically, cats represent curiosity, exploration, mystery, and so forth. Those traits are easily applicable to Wyborn, just as the traits of say... a dragonfly to Coraline. It’s seen throughout the movie, and symbolically a dragonfly represents transformation, truth, as well as resistance to deceit, or however it may be connotated. 2. Not that clear on the second one hear, but if you mean the skeletal-pin-makeshift-limb of the Beldam’s hand and it escaping, something of that. 3. I do think the other world was preexisting as well, but my terms come with the Beldam’s origin being she was a barren witch, couldn’t have kids, so forth. Got caught for witchcraft, was drowned in the well, the well is a Faerie portal to that select dimension, or as so we know it the “Other World.” Even without her influence, it’s a plane of time and space which can be morphed neurologically by human fantasy. 4. I think she truly is free, but the Beldam is still there. I’ve been conflicted with this answer though as Fangirl makes some pretty decent points, but I found a contradiction. The buttons. As we see them throughout the movie, every character in the Beldam’s domain has them, hence her being able to basically see-control, so forth. Connecting to the “special-sawdust-soul-stuff” within Other Wyborn and Other Father, the sawdust is sort of a special substance, however it be formed, morphed, or whatever, which causes more freedom to a soul, being that heavenly piece compared to the buttons with contradicts it as being the hellish piece. As we’ve all heard the saying, the eyes are the windows to the soul, the Beldam’s eyes are gone. I perhaps think she gave her eyes in order to attach herself to this domain enough to gain control of it as long as she comes to exist in it. Remember how in each of the 3 wonders she made for Coraline, there was an eye? The moon was probably the eye for the Beldam. The button eclipsing the moon perhaps was that shift, that grounding of her soul being taken from her, and it being forever chained to the domain preventing her to leave the Other World. Coraline’s eyes were never taken, meaning that she could freely leave and go as she pleased, but Coraline is not safe, as witty the Beldam is, and how “hard” Coraline is to get, I acknowledge the saying, “harder to get, better the prize is...” The Beldam will continue to try for Coraline’s “imagination / soul fantasies,” since she’s so hard to get.

Zachary Ortiz i know this was a year ago, but i still wanted to respond. I may be wrong, and your idea makes perfect sense. notice the hands are moving *away* from the moon, to reveal the light. i think that is clear symbolism for the beldam losing her power/grip on coraline, and the light signifies coraline’s freedom from the other world. just my interpretation tho

how do you know that she cant reach them? the beldam was able to reach her hand out of the ground too not just the door also the last two are just things that you think not real theories

hmm, that's an interesting question. And it assumes the Beldam can die from a physical attack. I've always assumed that she can't. So, it's like a 50/50 chance that either Coraline would be immediately released, OR she'd be trapped in the Other World, probably in the all white form. Then Coraline could evolve into the new Beldam! 0.o

@@TheFangirlWatches oh god....OR Maybe Corline can end the cycle and just stay there. Create her own home and just live there. i mean edible human food CAN be made in the other world (as long as Corline can get some real world ingredients), she can use human objects to alter things and she'd be all alone sure but at least it would be a safe place where drama and other stuff doesn't exist. so that could be a happily ever after....i guess....:/
