Question, no wash out blocks/bricks. How do you keep your cavity clean because even your internal skin has snott hanging from the beds. Another thing, they do make ties that wrap around the steel coloumn flange for brickwork where you dont have to screw into the column. Also the cutting into the brick toothing is a no go, because you have now effected the structural integrity of block. Brick and blocks both have difference expansion and contraction rates. Regardless of what the client wants, you should have allowed for an expansion joint as per code.
@christianwithers7335
@christianwithers7335 2 месяца назад
And steel expansion varying against block expansion. Snots should be faked out, but it is purely a storage area. When you cut a brick or block I would personally only cut when using solids.

Your a good bricklayer , i put 50 years in and loved it. But before I retired, i watched several young bricklayers starting new houses and was amazed they didn't have a clue how to set out or get a house square . And they were so full of themselves they didn't want to know . when i was young i was lucky enough to work with some really excellent very experienced tradesmen and if they were kind enough to teach me something i was very grateful. And of course you never stop learning. I always joked that you could teach a monkey to lay a brick , the tricky bit is getting them in the right place a

Izzy & Drew, another 'masterclass'! Utterly fantastic! What a job. Artistry! The pinnacle of brick laying. This is the best! One tiny issue! Izzy and Drew... eyewear when cutting blocks and bricks! And indeed power tools. Seriously here 'one -eyed' ''Joe'' seriously look after your eyes! Only takes a second to have an eye 'blinded'. And you have your looks to consider! Please. Thanks again! Brilliant work as usual! Your video delivery, video graphics, clip transitions, and how you talk through processes is very professional. Wish there were more reliable brickies and contractors like you and Drew in London. One tip, though: get yourself a pulley system set up on the end of your erected scaffold and a long rope. Attach it to a bucket and pull your bricks and compound up, save yourself braking your back on a jobsite and you'll be sound as a pound 👌🏽

Any decent RE on site will condemn or refuse to sign off works above 6 courses - backed up each face prior to starting again. Anchon hammer on ties are a better option than drilling / shot fixing - You should be using a flexcell expansion detail at all steel abutment joints. The purpose of this is to allow for movement between the steelwork and masonry. Steel will expand and contract and thus there is a risk of cracking where the 2 materials meet. Not too sure of the size of cavity - but saw no evidence of how the inner and outer skins are tied together. Same at gable abutment- no head restraint connection from steel to blockwork - normally debonded for expansion. That said - seems to be a good lad - good attention to detail and hard working.

Smashed it mate 👍 I'd consider more fixed price work, you just need to be confident with your quotes. With that unit job, I know it's not your issue but I'd be worried about the stability of the wall with it's small cavity, I would have suggested a pillar/buttress. Also leave a gap at the top, the steel will expand and flex. It's great you're showing another lad some tricks of the trade 👍

hi Izzy, i am working on a factory unit and decided to use Ozzy profiles on the corners but wanted to make life easier with veneer profile clamps from bt engineering. what i done was get some 2 x 4 wood and cut it about 150mm long . then routed out 15mm wide by 15mm deep along the 2 inch side . screwed the veneer clamps to the wood. when using slide groves over the steel i beam and f clamp then i can clamp profile for external corner, intermediate or run block work between steels. hope this makes sense.
