I check out the latest mountain bike jump trail at Woodhill bike park in Auckland NZ. It is called side of fries and has some technical and one steep dirt jump which is making me very nervous.
Follow my progress in clearing these jumps.

Whenever I’m jumping I always wear my Leatt 3Df airfit light padded shoulder shirt. Just gives me a little confidence that if I OTB it’s not a guaranteed broken collarbone or snapped shoulder. You should get your mates at Leatt to give you one for review. Extra benefit is that it makes your shoulders look big, which makes your waist look small.

Great video, Lance. Inspiring is the right word. Regardless of the level we are at there is always more to learn and while I’m not ready for those jumps it is nice to know that fear doesn’t end just because you can do some Grade 5s! 😅

Super relatable video Lance, loved it. Well done on sticking with it 👏👏. I ride with my young son who can now happily clear most trail tables and small doubles. I've always hated steep lips but these days they are on all the best trails so i needed to put my big pants on, get off the brakes and commit. I've not got it fully sorted yet but the sensation of landing on the downslope of one of these jumps compared to plopping onto the top is immeasurable. Who knew at 55 i would be learning to jump (properly) 🤣
@bestdayevermtb2
@bestdayevermtb2 Год назад
I am slowly getting there. I ride along with my mental protractor having lots of fun until one of the jumps exceeds my comfort angle and I hit the brakes and land on top of the table. It completely ruins some tracks for me. Original track in Queenstown is a great example of this. I just want to learn how to hit them with confidence.
@Petermcpete
@Petermcpete Год назад
@@bestdayevermtb2 it’s torment that for sure!! Ruins the flow. I rode Dyfi (in wales) recently and started hitting some of the more vertical lips. Great to get off them but then I suddenly realise I am a lot higher off the ground than usual and that shit me up too 🤣. Repetition is the key I guess. One day we might feel comfortable and just relax 🙏

Great work Lance. I recently found an app for measuring angles of take off's. Gives you some confidence I find. Steep jumps scare me as well. But if I know it's 55o or 60o and I've done something similar I can convince myself it'll be fine!!!!!! I'd be interested to know how long some of these jumps are? Like the first 4 especially. Your camera angle makes them look big. And gopros normally shrink stuff! So how big are these? Awesome work. Love your attitude.
@bestdayevermtb2
@bestdayevermtb2 Год назад
That is a great idea about the app measuring angles. I usually step out jumps. A jump looks scary, you step it out and realize you have done bigger. Could use the angle thing the same. Will work on that although technology hates me.
@boywonderdive
@boywonderdive Год назад
@@bestdayevermtb2 it works well. Any take off over 45o angle looks like a brick wall as you run into it! So if you've measured it and know you've done that type of take off before you can convince your brain to stay off the brakes and you won't shoot OTB's. Give it a try, easy tech! My recent use of it; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uqunbnz6yP0.htmlsi=HrqQ3Spr_3MCxSWs
