Somebody should provide some mint retro bikes for Gabe, there are so many people out there racing old bikes, like Maicos and stuff, but most lack the skill or are old enough to have ridden the bikes when they were new, or both... so I can only imagine what Gabe could do to modern KTMs on a mint Maico 250 from the 70s!

It seems life is constantly giving you lemons,… but you somehow fight against the odds and come back with the best lemonade out there. The way you look for trouble and tackle difficulties is a whole masterclass of positivism. I wish you all the best so you can get where you want to be, you truly deserve it. Gabe, back in the 80s my late brother Charlie modified many Suzuki SPs mostly 250s and the 370s. Slightly higher compression by thinner base & head gaskets, opened up air box, better air filter, good shocks (S&W), 78 RM125 forks with stiffer springs and a Super trap muffler would wake the 500 up. A better pumper carb would work too, but might be $$$. Love your channel. You should try a Suzuki RZ175/250 next.

The SP500 is like asking a drunk, overweight, elderly man to run in a marathon. The KDX is like a kid screaming "GO GO GO" while running at max velocity

I had a 78 SP 370 and that's just the way they are, heavy old weekend fun bikes. Although mine had a flat slide carb it was never going fast.

Your backup bike should be a ktm to ensure you take the super pooper the whole way

The endurance race content is great. The "Into the Dust" series with Larry Janesky, I think that's correct 🤔, got me hooked on endurance racing.

If the SP500 engine totally shoots craps, you could do a Predator engine swap. A pull-start engine at Glen Helen would be awesome!

This kdx has made me actually interested in getting a 2 stroke dirt bike in the future

Webcams makes 2 cams for the SP500, the 402 grind is really what that bike needs. Rejetting or a different carb is only going to make a very minor difference, the stock cam only has .233" of valve lift lol. I know you're trying to keep it cheap, but the extra .150" of valve lift the new cam will give you would absolutely transform the bike. If you did that + a VM34 it would be a rocket in comparison. I have no doubt there's also a few hp in the head just by cleaning up the casting marks and bowls. Bummer is the springs and retainers are $340, cam is 215$ + core. So you're looking at probably $600...... www.webcamshafts.com/pages_vehicles/motorcycle/suzuki/2083.html OR you pull the head off, take off the cylinder, delete the base gasket and use Loctite 510 to bump the compression up a half point, then clean up/lightly port the head and do a VM34. Total cost would be about $150 and you could probably pick up 4-5hp this way.

I have spent $$$ 3 times what that bike is worth and i would do it all over again love my kdx keeps up with my fathers white ktm all day long 😁 (TE300I) Still does need a new cylinder... one of these days 🧐

My kdx has a thing for vibrating every bolt loose. Ive completely abandoned using red loctight. Best thing i ever came across were 2 piece nord lock washers. Grabbed a handful from work and havent lost a single bolt since

I’d like to see you race my 2014 450x at Glenn Helen. I do not have the skill set you do and would be interested to see how it performs with a good rider in a race setting. It’s pretty tricked out, I bought it that way. It’s fun at Ocotillo and makes the rides out there as comfortable as it can be. Those bikes are great for the desert. Man in that Hair Scramble it would have been a rocket. That was a super fast track they had. You would have been hitting 100 mph + on the 450X, for sure.

I done two laps of an mx track on my brothers standard suzuki sp 370. For a laugh😁 they land hard realy hard and they dont stop either the swing arm brace snapped and chain stretched to a point that it wrapped round the wheel

Those li'l KDX200/220's are some extremely race proven machines they've snagged a lotta wins I roll on the XR'S 650 R/L XR600R and XL600R them bikes can do some serious race'in

Im surprised how low the power is on the sp500... I had an xl500 and it was very powerfull in low rpms and de sp is suposed to have more power than the xl.. Could it be the engine is worn out or the bike is geared to long? I think it schould have more power going uphill if the engine was in good order..
