We must operate in truth, you give them the true word of God then allow them to make their choices it is between them and God ultimately. Speaking truth is maybe all we can do as Christians

I kind of have a follow up. Is it permissible to lie in the effort of saving lives. In a situation where you are signing a bill that says life starts at the heart beat therefore abortion cannot be practiced after the heart beat. Passing that bill would save the lives of children, yet it is not what Christians believe to be true. Since God says life starts at conception. Is that acceptable?
Not only does God say life starts at conception but science confirms it. You could argue that signing the bill isn’t a proclamation that life starts when a heartbeat is detectable but just protecting human life in general.
John 15:18-19( Jesus said.) "18 " If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you( ❤ and ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊)do not belong to the world, but😊❤ I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."( John 15:18-19 Zondervan NIV Study Bible). It seems to me that this is more nuanced. The person that posts the question to Pastor John believes that 'All Children Who Die In Infancy Are Saved'. Many Reformed believers who align with both the Canons of Dort (Article 17) & The Westminster Confession(Ch 10, III) believes that only the children of believing parents are saved. If you hold these believes then you are not lying to the parents who want to abort their children. In my case, I would not be able to not warn the parents of their damning actions.
I'm not of the belief that even the children of believing children are saved. From the womb God ORDAINED that Isaac would be saved but that Esau would be cast out. That doesn't mean, however, that he was simply saved. If he had not been born, if he hadn't come to the knowledge of God, I could no more say that Isaac was going to heaven than any beast.
It is a question I have no clear answer for from scripture. If any answer were to come at all from acripture, it is more likely that they go to hell rather than heaven.
@re-nx5fv mmm, while I see where you're coming from, let us also remember not to equate suffering with Christ-likeness, which is what saves. Being a Christian is what saves us, that is, being like Jesus. Tiny messiahs. Now, again, I have no distinct answer to this question, but I can certainly rule out a few things. God isn't going to give life to those who don't believe over those who do. Otherwise, there would be a significant shortage of believers. Apart from a miracle from God, like John the Baptist, a baby is not born believing. Even John the Baptist, who was born a believer in Christ, was saved. All who come into the world must be saved, whether or not they are conceived or not, because all are born under Adam. We are guilty by association, even if not by works.
When we will save lives of the unborn, we had not to use manipulation or unbiblical doctrines, we have to give love, support, advice and so on. And not only at the moment of choice, but also in preparing for birth and going through the moment family and friends have to know about the pregnancy, in the days of birth and in raising up the child. Have you, for example, ever painted a baby sleeping room?
First of all, it's not LYING in the commandments. It's FALSE WITNESS - trying to get someone in trouble. Second of all, clearly "god" doesn't have a problem with lies: The Hebrew midwives (If you can believe 2 midwives for close to a million women), Rahab, on and on. Evidently, it's perfectly fine to lie, but only to non-Hebrews in that bible of yours.
@jenna2431 John Piper has a really good message on this, search Desiring God for “It Is Ever Right to Lie”. In summary, there can be godly people who lie under certain circumstances to prevent evil. The Bible has a few examples of these - the midwives lied to Pharaoh, Rahab lied to protect the spies (and was considered an act of faith in Hebrews 11), the wise men lied to Herod. What about the Christians who hid Jews from the Nazis during WW2? Would it have been wrong to lie when the soldiers came knocking on the door? And on the other hand, there can be godless people who are honest, for selfish reasons, to appear more dependable to others. What matters is the intention. Jesus explained that having murderous thoughts itself is itself already akin to committing murder, and looking at another woman lustfully is already akin to committing adultery (Matthew 5:21-30). God looks at the heart. What we should avoid is not so much the act of deceiving, but rather a deceitful heart, like Satan, the father of lies. What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart (Matthew 15:18)
Rahab also lied to save the lives of the spies,BUT I don't think a comparison can be drawn here. With the midwives and Rahab, it was a question of timing...that the spies had left, but they hadn't yet left, the babies were already born before the midwives arrived, which may have also been true at times. What the question concerned was lying about the very character of God,His divine truth and character...taking away His mercy and love and making Him out to be something He isn't. That's very serious.
It’s indeed a good point. We don’t know exactly how the the midwives operated but I think however there can be a difference between not giving a straightforward answer ie being shrewd, which is what I believe the midwives did, vs stating an outright lie. The midwives simply feared God more than pharaoh. But I agree there’s a fine line.
It would be a travesty of enormous proportions to equate the blessing of God with lies. They lied, and by their lie, lives we're saved. Paul even goes out of his way to answer this exact response. But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) Romans 3:5 God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? Romans 3:6 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? Romans 3:7 Clearly, lying because we think we're right is wrong. Lying because we think we'll save a life by lying is wrong. Why wouldn't you rather trust God, that he'll bless you for doing right and save you and yours? It's a decided lack of faith that makes men run to lies rather than truth for help.
They saved lives. God blessed them because lives were saved. He DID NOT bless them because they lied. God even blesses people in the world when they do what's right. Doesn't mean he advocates for their way of doing things. Otherwise, the fact the sun shines on the wicked and the just means that God doesn't really care about right and wrong, only good outcomes.
