Finally a fix has been developed for the 35xxh analogs.🎉 By no other than Gamma the creator of GammaOS. I hope this starts making its way into CFWs soon. x.com/TheGammaSqueeze/status/1820112844949496101
Thank you for actually documenting on video what the change is actually like. Disappointing but finally puts this issue to rest since no one who claimed swapping the sticks helped was willing to record it.
I replaced the gulikit on my 405v which suffer from same problem, the result is the same with more problem on right analog can't reach full range when press left. I think it's depend on the software as well. Gamma os don't have the analog calibration so I end up put the stock ones back in. PS. Thanks for informative video.
This really good to know. We need more videos like this. Now, I don’t know, but I thought once you put sticks into something that there would be some sort of calibration? And maybe not. So can we assume that the handheld isn’t reading right?
These sticks are supposed to be calibrated after install. However this device does not have a tool to do that. I would have expected a larger change even without calibration if it was just the sticks. So my vote is that it's something on the software/driver side.
I swapped sticks about 2 weeks ago honestly its a marginal improvement idk it depends if its worth 20 bucks to you and your time taking it apart etc. To me yeah i like the idea of future proofing my system with sticks with a less likelyhood to develop drift in the future.
@@ROFLMAOwithExtraCheese Hard to know, but I think it's a software/driver issue. When connecting a Bluetooth controller it does not have the issues so my bet is a driver issue.
I was worried about the analog issues as I am a big fan of racing games. But the swap does not seem to be all to difficult at all (this seems to be much easier than compared to a DS). Still seems to be a well worth while purchase considering I got it for half price and this being the only necessary thing and turning out not being so necessary still makes it good.
The d-pad quality control is kinda all over the place. However, there is a lot of info out there of ways people recommend tweaking it. It would be better for them to just do better in the first place.
Hey can you do a video explaining how to properly set up the RG35XX H as a couch co-op console? I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out how to configure the HDMI aspect ratio and how to set up multiple controllers using either USB or Bluetooth Thank you very much for the quality content you put out
@@PhyrexTechs That would be awesome! I'm specially interested in connecting controllers via USB to avoid input lag, but most of my controllers seems to not be supported by the OS or the device seems unable to provide the correct power for the controller to work
Great video! Quick question, what camera and mic do you use to make these videos? Do you record footage then voiceover it, or talk live as you record? Thanks!
Thanks! I use my Pixel 8 phone to record the video. I use a Sure SM7B for the audio. I write a script then record the audio and video separately then edit them together. I'm still learning and experimenting but that is what I'm doing currently.
@@ondrejkipila1072 its so weird, what would cause that? with various operation systems out there, it cant be software, with various sticks that clearly work differently in other hardware, it mostly should not be the sticks? so is there hardware on the board intercepting the signals forcing them into 8 direction conformity?
Good news, Gamma the creator of GammaOS has fixed the issue and released the fix. CFW should start coming out with updates that include the fix. muOS should have it in the next update.
Awesome video and analysis! I thought it would be harder to replace the joystick, thanks to you, now I feel I can do it!. I just have the question about which model of GuliKit joystick will work? The ones that are made for switch?
Many thanks for the super informative video! do you happen to have a Powkiddy RK2023 as well? do you know if those sticks suffer from cardinal snapping as well? Unfortunately NONE of the reviews i looked up (which must be all of them by now) tested this. I understand that for retro games not much precision is required, but i'd love to use the retro handheld for game streaming as well...
I agree, for this device it's not that big of an issue with the games that most people will be playing, PS1 and lower. I have no issue with the analog sticks themselves, if they actually worked properly for games that need them. But this video shows that the analogs are not the problem, it's a software or driver issue with the device.
I just swapped my sticks and now the sticks don't work at all. I'm not sure if I broke the port or simply didn't plug them in all of the way because no matter how hard I tried they just wouldn't go in all the way, but either way I think I'm just gonna save for a bit and get the 405m.
If you want to check something make sure that the shiny part of the ribbon cable for the sticks are facing up. 405m has great sticks. I'm gonna be swapping the sticks on the RG556 at some point also.
Which tool you used for the on 1:21? I've just got mine (I'll probably sell it, got the Trimui Smart Pro as well and will probably use it), and I'm not sure if it's just me being a newbie, but I think it's working better on my PSP thumbstick test.
It was the PPSSPP control debug overlay While running a PSP game open the PPSSPP Settings Then navigate to:Settings > Graphics > Debug Overlay > Control Debug
With the fix of this issue having been developed and soon to be released in the next muOS and Knulli updates. I still think this is the best budget horizontal handheld at this price range. I have not been able to test the fix yet myself but I will as soon as I get my hands on it.
I think you are commenting on the effect of running the game using the Rice GFX plugin. It adds many visual artifacts to the game and looks much worse, but for the RG35XX-H, that is the only way to get a lag-free experience for many N64 games. I'm not a fan of the Rice GFX plugin's visual artifacts, which is why I normally stick with my RG405m for N64 games. But others use it to play N64 games on this handheld. There have been many questions and rumors about this device's analog stick issue, so I wanted to make this video to clarify some things. This was the best game I could think of to show the problem, visual artifacts aside.
After testing it out for a bit, It has a bit of snapping but not nearly as bad as the 35XX-h. I am able to at lease get the input to be detected between the cardinal direction unlike the 35XX-h. However, it is not as good at the 405m. I have heard rumors of these hall effect sticks fixing this issue for the RG556. Looks like I will have to take them from the 35XX-H and put them in the 556 to test this out.
Yeah... I feel the same way. At least with this one Gamma OS is in the works and they already have a analog stick fix for it working. github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/Bootloader_Unlock_Anbernic_T820/releases/tag/analog_fix Going to wait for the full release before making a video on it.
That is what I thought at first, but if that was the case then the input would either be on or off ( 0 or 100 ) but when I tested it you can see that it does read the inputs as analog but just with heavy snapping and sloppy input handling.
I dont get why youd get a 35xx h and then pay $20 for better sticks and the trouble of changing them when you could just get a better device for the price difference, like a retroid pocket 2s
RP2S is amazingly ugly. It is large and the small screen in such a large device looks ridiculous. But yes, it is of much higher quality and more convenient in terms of hardware...
