My Ears Nose Throat docs (I've had several!) said the main reason to do this is to keep the little cilia flexible so they can sweep out all the junk in your nasal passages. As time goes on, like all other body parts, the cilia get stiff and don't work well. Saline irrigation is the literally the fountain of cilia youth.

I have irrigated my sinuses per an allergist's direction, for 15 years. I use a Water Pik with a special nasal nozzle, and use 1 teaspoon of half-and-half plain salt and baking soda. I use distilled or boiled water. First thing in the morning and last thing before bed - twice a day. This regimen has definitely helped my sinuses. UPDATE 2-23-22: My allergist (who was with the Medical College of GA at the time) had been using this regimen HIMSELF for years before suggesting it for me. In fact, it was he who demonstrated it to me. It works for me. UPDATE 4-30-22: I use plain table salt, not sea salt or Kosher salt. I now use boiled water and add the salt and baking soda to a 1-liter container while the water is warm, and shake the solution so it will dissolve completely. The water will keep for 24 hours, which is perfect for 2 applications.

You have to make sure you let the water drain out of the navage. I kept rinsing mine out and putting it on its stand. One day I noticed it was full of mold. So I cleaned it and now I drain it good and place all parts upside down on stand. I was just making it worse cleaning my sinuses with mold.
@ge2719

i think the design of this thing is kinda silly though. its catching all the nasty gunk filled water and you have to then empty that container and keep it clean... why not just let it drain out and stand over the sink.... that way theres no second bottle to clean thats had mucus and bacteria filled water in it. Just the top tank thats had distilled/boiled water.

After is to get any water solution out that may be stuck up there and any crud that was stuck up in your nose " THIS IS A MUST DO THING! " So you don't get an infection!

I used too much salt when I did this and choked giving me the scare of my life. So if you are going to do this please make sure you don't put too much salt in. Unfortunately that put me off so I got a nasal spray sinusoothe and that keeps my sinuses clear. I used to have terrible congestion due to allergies but this not only keeps my passages clear but also my allergies don't seem to be as bad. I also haven't caught a cold, flu or even COVID since I started using this over two years ago. But I still take COVID precautions. maybe I've just been lucky.

Loved hearing your success story! I now own a sinupulse elite - it's much better than the Neil med squeeze bottle! I do have a question on the volume of saline solution to use. With Neil med and with your 'navage' system, there's only room in there for 1 cup water and 1 small packet of saline. With my sinupulse, there is plenty room for twice that amount of solution and I even saw a guy on RU-vid that fills his tank to the rim!!! Isn't that overkill? Please say how much solution is actually necessary to be effective? I'd like to be able to only run 1/2 cup solution up each side of my nose and maybe do 2 cups periodically. Sometimes less can be more - What do you say? Thanks!

Last summer on the first day of being at the beach for a two week vacation, my sinuses and head trapped what felt like a quarter cup of salt water simply because of how closed up my sinuses had been. At the end of the first day, during our "car pack up" while bending over, all the water suddenly drained out of my nose for about 20 to 30 seconds. For the rest of vacation, my sinuses were as clear as could be and it didn't happen again. That is essentially what all these sinus irrigation devices and neti pots attempt to do.

They should have warned that water will get tramped in your sinuses, and then sometime later when you lower your head, or move in a particular way, the water will come flooding out of your nose. I always move my head around to try to drain the residual as it can drain at unfortunate or embarrassing times... like on the belt in a super-market.

I learned how to use the Netti Pot decades ago & it's much easier than this machine. Blow your nose before you begin. Be sure to have plenty of material within reach to blow again between & after 'pours'. Over the bathroom sink... I didn't use boiled water or distilled water for well over 20 years & fortunately I had zero trouble. Once I learned about the brain connection I immediately switched to using distilled or boiled water. It stopped my sinus infections as well as helping with allergies & colds, even if I wasn't able to use it immediately or ahead of time. It's very inexpensive to make your own rinses without needing additional equipment to take up space. I have a repurposed spice jar containing sea salt that I keep a 1/4 teaspoon measure with along with my (8 ounce) Netti Pot. Just be sure to use distilled or boiled water, OR Colloidal Silver at the temperature of a warm baby bottle. Not hot, warm.

I have a nasal squirt bottle that I keep salt water in. I get sinus infections so the salt water will clear them right up... most of the time. However, sometimes the infections get really bad before I realize it... the entire side of my face including my teeth, can hurt very badly and I can't even sleep when it gets that bad. And squirting the salt water up my nose can hurt very very badly if the infection is bad. So I'd like to give this Navage a try. Wish me luck.

The Navage has helped me tremendously. Also using Lanto Sinus (probiotic). A Dr from Baylor Univ suggested using a diluted solution of baby shampoo and water to irrigate sinuses. That was suggested because he said the bacteria develop a biofilm and are resistant to clearing up. After years of recurring, long lasting sinus infections, I finally found relief. Good luck!

That’s way too complicated. I use the aerosol Arm and Hammer Saline Spray. I carry it with me so I can flush out pollen after being outside. This helps prevent an allergic build up deep in my sinus.

speaking of how wide and deep your sinuses are, one time i used my netti bottle, and a few hours later i was getting ready for bed, leant down to pick something up off the floor, and when i turned my head a bunch of water came out my nose 🤣 i've had a problem with my left nostril for years now, and my eustachian tube on that side feels like its blocked. doctors did nothing to help, so i've been trying to use the netti bottle but so far its not really helped. Doesn't help how inconvenient it is to keep cleaning and getting distilled water. But definitely don't want to risk a brain eating bacteria.... I used filtered and boiled tap water a few times but it just gets me worried that i'll make it worse, especially seeing how much residue is left from distilling tap water. 🤮 i thought maybe this device would cycle the water a few times to make it more effective and thorough but it seems to just use it once and be a way to catch the water when it comes out.. which i don't know why you'd want to do that. I guess the vacuum seal does something? guess i'm goig to have to bother the doctors some more to get anything done about it

Do severe allergies cause vertigo ?
@wintersskye2527
@wintersskye2527 2 года назад
Allergies that inflame your nasal passages causing more mucus production which equals to a “stuffed up” feeling in your nose and pressure in your sinuses , can indeed cause vertigo when one side of your passageway can’t drain through the lymphatic system. I’ve had vertigo for 3 years because of severe and worsening allergies.

This looks way too troublesome, expensive, and possibly would get contaminated easily. I use a ceramic Neti Pot and filtered water so there is no bacteria and such in it. Heat it up to just above room temperature and don't use too much salt or it will burn. Salt in the jars for this purpose works fine, that's the cheapest. If you blow your nose after do not pinch it shut, it must be free or else it pushes excess water into your ears. Blowing it into a towel without touching your nose is best. I do this when I have worked outside and any kind of dusty stuff might get up my nose, when you might have been around chemical irritants, and when my nose feels dry or it's hard to breath.

I use the squeeze bottle, the water needs to be at a good temp for you ( I like warm) and follow up with a decent nose blow when you're done. Especially helpful after big time exposure to pollen or early grass cutting. I call it "The naso douche".

You are right, warmer water feels better going through, also either to clean the bottle then that contraption I would think.

I used a netipot and the packaged mix. It made my sinuses burn for a week and I had a couple nosebleeds and ended up with a sinus infection because my sinuses were so irritated. I'd only used it because the doc said it might help keep me from getting my usual allergic sinusitis. Never touching it again.
