Thank you, this video was very helpful. Can you make a video on how to stop/slow down on a penny board (specifically when riding down hills)? I use my penny board for commuting but there is this one part of the commute where I have to ride down a relatively steep hill with a few cracks in the pavement, which are probably manouverable. Tried to ride it once but I got terrified by the speed I was at as I am still a beginner and don't want to injure myself by landing face first on the pavement XD or hurt anyone else (the street is not usually too busy, but I do share the pavement with pedestrians).

Great question! Thanks for your comment and being a little specific with it as it does help me better understand. Will try and work on this and get it out in the near future. And also, WAFFLES!!

Thanks for making this! I've known how to just simply cruise on a skateboard since I was a teenager and I just got my Penny board in the mail today. I was so confident since I had just rode my friends skateboard the other day, I hopped on and wasn't used to the small size I tipped over the back and busted my ass and scraped my elbow on the concrete 💀🤕🤣 now I'm using your video to overcome my PTSD from earlier today and get back on the board with just baby steps. 1 question, I'm around 200lbs and I feel like the penny board bushings are too soft? Like the board tilts way too easily. Are there any fixes for this?
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler Год назад
Yo fun to hear you got a new board! That’s a bummer to hear you had a tough wipeout, but I’m glad to know you’re giving it another go! I’m haven’t personally had any issues with the bushings, and I am 175lbs. Their weight limit is 220 so I feel you should be relatively okay, especially because they should be new. If you really have issues, you could look up alternative bushings online to buy. Besides this, you could try tightening the trucks a little. Best of luck 🤙🏼
@HaniJIsmail
@HaniJIsmail Год назад
@@pennyboardtyler thanks man, im loving your channel by the way. I tightened the trucks up til they were snug and it's much better now and I'm getting more confident and fighting the urge to buy a nickel board. I'll probably go with harder bushings when they need replacement.

Thank you tyler, you are a great inspiration! I have practiced on a parking lot for a month now, also practiced going down some small hills. Starting to feel quite comfortable with balance and over all board control. But i feel really intimidated to pennyboard in the city, with other people to consider and other possible obstacles. Feels really scary..! But i cant spend my life an a parking lot right? :D any advice?
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 2 года назад
Thanks for you comment, Pia! It's great to hear you are starting to feel more comfortable on your board and that you want to explore more with it now. Questions for you though - What kind of city are you in (i.e. major downtown city, suburbs, smaller town, etc.)? Also, what kind of riding are you doing (i.e. just for fun riding or are you trying to commute somewhere)? I can definitely put together a video just for you regarding this subject, but the more info I know about what your goals are, the better I can help you.
@pia.hasselberg
@pia.hasselberg 2 года назад
@@pennyboardtyler yeah, it is so much fun to skate! I enjoy every second of it. I live in a small suburban town and take the train to work. My plan is to bring my pennyboard for a smoother commute. I work in a bigger city that in rush hour can be quite crowded with both pedestrians and bikes “in my way”. Also i want to just cruise down the streets doing errands or maybe just enjoying the weather on my lunch break. ☺️ that is my true goal with my pennyboarding. Love all your videos, your love for pennyboards is truly inspiring!

Ty for your video! Would you recommend staying far from the 22" for beginners? as in, begin with a 27"?
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 6 месяцев назад
If you have no riding experience whatsoever, I’d recommend the 27-inch over the 22-inch. If you have some previous riding experience, it’s possible to pick up the 22-inch

Hey tyler! I'm planning to upgrade parts on my knock off penny board but i have no idea what size its wheels are or what bearings to use. Any tips on board maintenance?
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler Год назад
You could buy wheels and anything else off Penny Skateboard’s website. But if you research other brands, you’ll generally want something around the following: - 59mm polyurethane wheels (Penny uses 83A) - Stainless Steel bearings (Penny uses Premium Abel 7) I’m on a break at the moment (see my most recent video to see why), but I’m planning on making a board maintenance video in the future.

I’m a noob! About 3 weeks ago a 14 girl showed me how to ride a penny board 😂 I’m 25 and have never been successful at skateboarding in general. Anyway she told me the way she keeps balance on the board is to do a lunge and tighten my hamstring as I come up. For example if my left leg is in front then that leg will tighten its hamstring to do a lunge and bring the body up. Works wonders. I then figured that anytime I’m off balance or feeling wobbly when pushing or cruising is because my hamstrings for one or both legs are not engaged.
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler 2 года назад
Hey Athena - Thanks for your comment! I love hearing you’re getting into the Penny life 🤘🏼 good insight added on your own experience on learning better balance. Question for you though - do you mean tightening your Quad? The hamstrings are in the back of the leg, and the quadriceps muscle is in front
@athenovae

Can you explain how to fix the penny if he is turning to one side constantly that bothers me and i cant rade it properly
@pennyboardtyler
@pennyboardtyler Год назад
If you're constantly turning to one side, you're likely leaning more weight to that side of the board. I would recommend re-addressing your feet positioning, and making sure you are not leaning too far on your heels or too far on your toes (depending on what side you're leaning/turning)

Here's another tip: learn to do single-leg Romanian bodyweight deadlifts. They're a great exercise to add to your squats, lunges, etc. for strength training, but they also get you used to balancing on one leg while moving the rest of your body, which applies directly to skateboarding.
