What's better than a single light fixture for a smaller tank? How about a single light fixture for a 4-foot tank?! Today we test the QMaven II (6500 and 6800) and find out how it stacks up to the rest! The biggest question we answer today...would we actually use it?

I run the two module version on my system using the legs on their highest setting. I agree with everything here, it needs to be pretty high up to get good coverage, and I couldn't hang, so I ended up adding a Giesemann t5 hybrid and that combo is awesome. In fact, it fits perfectly in between the T5 housings, and I was able to drill holes for the Qmaven legs. So the whole fixture, t5s and all, is sitting on legs on top of my system.

@@buffalosoldat I've upgrades since writing this. But I think the bra assessment is spot on. It's not going to grow a tank full of sps but on a lps and softy tank it works great. The spread isn't that great, so I would recommend it on a tank that's similar dimensions to the unit.

I believe they both use cree so would this give them the same color pretty much? As usual BRS is trying to push the more expensive lights for sps tanks. I've had these on a predominantly SPS Reef mixed with T5 lighting so it's a hybrid system like many reefers do with other lighting. And they work outstandingly well great growth with all types of coral. Mixed with T5 lighting and you got a great system for way less money.
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
For sure (just like other 90Watt LEDs we tested and use ourselves), when you couple them with T5 lighting you can absolutely achieve goals for higher PAR demand tanks. When we compare this 90Watt Zetlight against other 90watt lights, on their own almost none of them are able to achieve those 200-350 PAR ranges throughout most of the tank. This is something you'll see again in upcoming tests of the Kessil A360Xs and the Hydra 32s. However when you add in some T5s...the sky's the limit, which is something we've seen ourselves in Ryan's hybrid SPS tank in his office (A360X with T5).

hi, what is the best setting for coral sps?
@BRStv

Given how high off the water this light needs to be mounted for even spread, this really isn't the greatest option for SPS corals, but rather, a good light for low to medium light corals like softies and LPS.

Why didn't BRS test two fixtures for higher PAR demands?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
I honestly don't think we would have seen dissimilar results to what we saw on the 6800. Actually, using two 6500s probably would've resulted in less PAR than a single 6800 (which is sortof 3x-6500s in one fixture). The main reason I believe this is directly related to the lenses and spread these fixtures use. You would still need to mount them higher to reduce the sharp focus of the lens, at which point there's not enough output to reach our 200-350 goals in more than 70% of the tank.
@accusynca
@accusynca 4 года назад
Am I wrong or would the 12" height on the 4ft version be pretty good par for sps? Isnt 2-300 pretty ideal for sps especially if in a mixed tank?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
The goal here was to not only shoot for the ideal par levels, but also to achieve an even spread. If your goal is pure par output, then mounting the light closer to the water could be an option for you. We feel that the 15" mounting height is just the best of both worlds for this particular fixture.

Looking at the specs of these lights, I feel it has way too many white bulbs compared to bluer ones and way WAY too many red bulbs, while yes you can adjust the channels it feels like you're wasting potential performance, I mean how often have you seen settings that are "max out blue, white at 50%" (or whatever) that should be a wake up call to manufacturers "not enough blues, too many whites". That said very happy you're reviewing these lights though, often times it seems that you focus on "the big three" (Ecotech, AI, Kessil) and that's the extent of it, and with LFS typically only using a single type of light (around here Kessil) it's hard to commit to a brand that you never know what it will be like, i.e. a couple years back I was really intrigued by the Maxspect Ethereal lights, but there is like no information out there on them at all other than maybe a few unboxing videoes (and even then not many)
@CrustaceonsReef
@CrustaceonsReef 4 года назад
I’d rather run a T5ho fixture. Cheaper (even in the long run), better spread & spectrum and probably perfectly fine with even a two bulb setup for softies and lps, which means the power usage is similar to the smaller led fixture on full blast.
@aricard1980
@aricard1980 4 года назад
Why not run two 6800’s front and back basically covering the tank? I thought the point of this was to find the perfect lps settings and sps settings. You turn the radions 90 degrees to pack more in and get better coverage, why not add one more zetlight?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
At that point, it would become an expensive proposition and there are likely better options to achieve the lighting needed for an SPS tank.
@aricard1980
@aricard1980 4 года назад

@SpiegNet
@SpiegNet 4 года назад
Why does is seem like 36" tanks (40-breeder, etc...) get no love from the LED manufacturers? If you have a 24" or 48" tank, there are tons of options... otherwise your stuck trying to cobble together multiple lights to get the job done (or just accepting that your lighting is not going to cover the tank evenly).

Why does the 60 have 3 times the puks as the 30? I noticed that the placement was weird and dint like it was all grouped in the middle for the 30 when they could have separated the puks. its 2 small rectangular puks placed together. So they used their brain and was able to place them better on the 60. Another thing that makes no sense is they 30 only has 90 bwatts!!! But the 60 has 180 and its 3 times the puks, so it should be 270, i think it might be a misprint! Has to be if ya do the math! If this had higher wattage I would get this. I love that it uses cree like photon does and colors looked sweet when yall were zooming in on it! I probably would have got the radions by now if they were in! Now i think I want the photon and save myself a ton of money over radions and versus this light there are so many things I like better like much more wattage and 2 year warranty, based in america and it also uses Cree but its out of stock as well. Just my luck! lol Any idea when they will be in?`````
