The Russian is a great gateway to so many takedowns. As a youth & hs wrestling coach, it is the first control tie I teach the kids. The concept is immediately accessible: 2 beats 1. Wrestling half a guy is easier than wrestling a whole guy. You shut down his offense. You control the tempo. Tip: develop answers to the most common defenses - head post, him grabbing high hand, low hand, and elbow. High hand defense is the best answer to the Russian. Great vid!
