Pretty sure the ability to land on the "edge" of a nitro crate is part of a grace mechanic that lots of platformers have where the edge of platforms are longer than their physical models suggest or more commonly you still have a couple fractions of a second to press jump after you step off a ledge.
To me, that "mechanic" feels like a bug. Why do I think that?! Well, back in my old days, where I used to make Super Mario World Rom Hacks, there was old custom block tool to create custom blocks and one of them was an insta-kill block. Given this blocktool was old and still not optimized as it were by nowadays standards, you could in fact, do the same and STAND on the right corner of the death block, without dying. That one magic pixel of the block allowed you to stand on it. As soon as I saw this happen here with nitro crates, that is where my mind instantly jumped to this little bug of the said block tool.
@@deoxysandmew2162 Considering that most of the jumps in crash 1 (at least the nsane version) are impossible if you don't jump when off the platform, it's not a bug
Except you see him do it on series of crates, not just corners. It is likely a hybrid of that and something else or just the something else. In particular frame rates, as long as you're able to get on/off the Nitro between frames tied with the landing animation.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 Either way I would rather have same mechanic that was in Crash 2 and 3. Where if you pressed jump on the right frame where you would jump off the nitro, you would outrun the blast. I have done that so many times in Crash 3. Mainly in time trials. I believe one was Future Frenzy. Nitro crate was close to time crate and with Speed Shoes, that was a good speed strat. So seeing this weird strange bug as to why you CAN or CANNOT jump on nitros in the N.sane version, feels way more off as it doesnt feel consistent. Except for the spin trick. THAT is consistent, as long as you have timing down.
I want BIG NITRO to be canon in Crash's universe now! XD Amazing editing, kept me laughing all the way through. Honestly I would love to see a TAS (Tool assisted Speedrun) with this MOD showcasing perfect run all the way through, to visualize exactly the journey you went through. The only part is see tricky in doing so is the performance exploits to create a passageway so you can continue the explosive emissary.
This one was the best one of the "can you beat?" series. I love seeing your other content too, but continuing this to the other Crash games could be really interesting
Man, I'm just can't thank enough RU-vid algorithm for showing me your channel. This content is so fucking cool, all Crash and Spyro challenge playthroughs is something I want to try myself after completing both games (og's and remasters) dozens of times.
You have so many quality assets that you’ve produced from scratch. One example is the “BIG Nitro”. I subscribed to your channel because it’s guaranteed quality content - as well as showing us what you can do/produce, you also have some fun with your modifier and it’s great to see. Can’t wait to see all the mods you come up with/release, in addition to the content you upload showing your ruminations.
Hi ARD! I stumbled upon this series last week and also looked through your NST modding videos and level editor project. I really like the effort you put into these videos, especially the one second throwaway lines like the mention of picking up pinstripe's gun and then seeing you modding just that. Keep up the good work! Nice to see the LBP mention here, too. You might remember me as napero7 from LBPC, nice to stumble upon you once again years later :)
Anyone that knows Crash 1 knew you'd have to settle for compromises, but it was still an interesting run to watch! Will you ever consider doing the PlayStation 1 versions? From your Crash Bandicoot 2 all nitros video, you mentioned that Snow Go was impossible to get through because of the 2D section stacked crates, so I would be interested in knowing if there are differences like that. Plus Bear Down would be easier :) If not a full video, I would propose to do a single video compilation of all 3! Then again, I'm sure you got a big headache already from doing the NST already... Cheers mate! Have a good one!
hey jsyk in a challenge run you set your own rules. If at the start of the run you decide masks shouldnt be used and glitches are fine, that's a valid way to play the game
I really appreciate the extra effort you put into a small gag in these videos, like making a big nitro from scratch, or showing an actual example of how having the superpowers in the first game would change stuff. I really enjoyed this trilogy :)
I like both styles of progression. I think something that would be really cool would be combining Crash 3's warp rooms (I know it's called the Time Twister, but I like saying Warp Room) with Crash 1 and 4's map progression, and also N. Tranced. Maybe even toss a Crash 2 style tower at the very end as a sort of hard gauntlet of levels. The way I imagine that working is you start out on the world map. Instead of entering levels, the dots on the map take you into a warp room containing a set of levels. Not necessarily 5, but maybe 2 or 3. This gives you the freedom to play a set of levels You can usually access multiple dots on the map at the same time, similar to in N. Tranced, so you preserve that feeling of adventuring across a land while also having the variety of level choice similar to in 2 and 3.
you should combine all the n.sane triology games into one cohesive experience, like centralizing mechanics and upgrades for said mechanics, and evenly dispersing and mixing levels from each into a pseudo linear progression, similar to how warped handles level progression. would be fun too finding places for all the extra bosses, like using some as mini-bosses to get to new areas.
I feel like death abuse masks should be considered valid. Because wouldn't starting from a fresh save mean you would be struggling to have enough lives to be constantly dying?
Hod does the mod work? I downloaded it and put it in the archives folder but it doesn't work. I tried one of the skin mods for crash and that worked just fine but yeah i dont understand how any of this works anyway. Can somebody help?
9:00 Play on a laptop, and configure the maximum CPU frequency on battery top be 10%. Unplugging the battery cable gives you lag, and plugging it back it quickly fixes the lag
i like how hes honest with these challenges, its less a challenge video and more a "well... CAN you" he essentially creates a TAS and talks about it and he doesnt try and say shit like "now guys you have no idea how long it took me to get the correct RNG to..." hes just "yeah i cheated to get to this area to test if its possible"
I Never Imagined That You Did This Video About Beating "Crash" if All Boxes Are Nitro!...Also Didn't You Said "No" on The Previous Videos?! Like if You Reached The 3rd Level You'll Find Yourself a Way to Reach the Top of The Stage But The Only Way to Reach the Top is Using The Metal Bouncy crate But it Replaced With a Nitro Crate So...There's No Way to Progress the 3rd level if There's No Other way to Beat it!!
For limiting the frame rate, would RTSS count as cheating/invalidating the challenge? It could artifically reduce the frame rate to an arbitrary number at will, so if it's not off-limits it'd certainly be easier than messing with settings.
And then PS2 Crash games but every crate is a nitro. TWoC would be pretty interesting. I have 1 video of my TAS attempt on one of TWoC's first levels which took a while to do perfectly because no crates is really damn hard to do.
If you're going into Nvidia control panel to make the game use your integrated GPU, why not just use the Control Panel's FPS cap feature to cap it to 15 FPS or something?
Even though this challenge wasn’t possible, this was still super interesting. It was interesting seeing you expanding on what you had to do in the next 2 games. However, this challenge does look like much more of a pain in the ass.
You're integrity to the rules and pursuing the best possible result is always inspiring. If you ever need another masochist for some co-op game I'd be all for trudging through it!
The bouncy arrow boxes aren't crates. Can't open them, and they don't count toward missed crates. Not only is it valid to leave them alone, that's how they should be regardless. Same is true of switches. No need to count that against your run.
I think with this Crash Bandicoot, using Aku Aku to pass an unsurmountable obstacle is acceptable, to bypass something that physically stops you. But you can only use it once, for those circumstances only. Keeping the arrow boxes on the Great Gate and Native Fortress is also acceptable, and the same goes for the crates on the lab, they are trigger boxes, and affect the environment not just simple boxes.
Wow I’m not alone then. Crash 1 is my favorite of the trilogy too. And it has nothing to do with nostalgia, actually it’s the opposite. When I was little I used to hate Crash 1, because it was “boring and all jungle”. Instead, I loved Warped. When I grew up my opinion changed completely, and now I love Crash 1 while I don’t like Warped as much anymore. When it came out Warped tried so hard to be SO diverse, it backfired. Platforming was still solid, but other levels weren’t… interesting, to say the least.
Nice! Someone else who likes Crash 1 the most! I pretty much never see that, everyone always prefers 2 and 3. Personally I actually like Wrath of Cortex more than Crash 3 lol. But I LOVE Crash 1.
Hey I just found your channel and I really like your videos and your style of editing. Which program do you use? Could you please tell me I would be very happy. Keep putting out the great videos mate👍🏽
What about seeing which Crash Bandicoot games you can beat if every Wumpa Fruit was Nitro? So that way you can't spin away the Wumpa Fruit because you'd be spinning a Nitro instead.
I know why you can jump on the nitro crate! At least I think I do... I believe its to do with collision detection. If you press jump while falling obviously nothing happened but if the crash model is like a pixel above but not touching the nitro if you press jump it should allow you to hop as the nitro hasn't detected anything yet. I mean as much as it's all one code individual objects interactions are their own processes respectively.
