Honestly this was both the most fun, but also most difficult challenge I've ever done. Could not have picked a better run for the 150K Special. Thanks so much everyone for all your support, you all are the best!
Thanks for making these videos, Jrose! Please set up a Patreon or donation link, I want to pay something back for how much you've helped me in the last few months!
@@DisplayThisOkay I think that might be the only one, yeah...I don't really count Sableye. The physical/special split was so necessary for so long. Really sad that they took until gen 4 to implement it.
It was because Steel had to be a physical type, so they made Dark special to have the same amount of physical and special types. That’s also why Ghost was physical despite that making even less sense.
@@rainpooper7088 I think ghost was physical because in gen 1 the only ghost move was lick, and it made sense for it to be physical. Gen 2 was built mostly on gen 1 stuff so it stayed the same, and by gen 3 it was the standard, so changing it would be weird.
Wow, I’ve never once seen this “Ditto Level up” glitch documented. Just when we thought this old game was torn wide open. Jrose11 doing God’s work right here.
I mean, just days ago it was revealed that various days have increased/decreased encounter rates depending on the day of year. New Years, 4th of July, 9/11, etc. And Junichi Masuda's birthday makes eggs hatch faster
@@marzbar5877 i respect it that you want a challenge but no poke center during a gym sounds stupid do you mean during the gym trainers or do you actually force yourself to fight the leader with low hp
Wow, this challenge was incredible. It may be your best yet. Discovering an undiscovered (or at least undocumented) glitch? Check Having 3 strategies for ditto that don't just involve immediately transforming? Check Making heavy use of Ditto not having a gender? Check Using Protect, Sunny Day, and Encore to great effect? Check Using 3 different held items other than Shellbell/Leftovers? Check Being just barely feasible with an EV trained level 100? Check
Out of curiosity, I checked why AI used Attract in this battle, and from what can I tell, there is a bug in code that checks whether AI should be using Attract. In short, in Gen3, gender is determined by a personality value. To determine whether AI should be using be using Attract it reads personality value and species to determine gender of your Pokemon. The problem here is that it reads your species as the one after transformation (unlike other checks for gender in the game that check species before transformation) which means that after transforming into Sealeo the personality value of your Ditto makes it male for this function.
The most ironic aspect of this Ditto Level Up Glitch is that part of it IS the same as part of the Badge Boost Glitch. In the Badge Boost Glitch, levelling up reset your badge boost stat boosts. In this glitch, levelling up resets Ditto to Ditto's stats. Honestly, we probably should have seen this coming. It's too poetic not to be the case. :D
I'm pretty sure the post-game Steven fight is just impossible though. Skarmory can't kick its own butt and struggle wouldn't let you through if you tried Ditto struggling because Toxic and the amount of beef Steven's team has.
@@raineob4996Jrose doesn't use the affection mechanic unless it's forced like in Gen 8 onward. In Gen 6 you need to use Pokemon Ami which effectively manipulates your luck with your own hands unlike later on in the series where they combined the friendship and affection mechanics (which was just dumb imo) so i don't think he'd do it if he wasn't just forced, so in ORAS i feel like you just couldn't get past Steven as Champ unless you get mad lucky with a million crits but Skarmory is a terrible Pokemon to transform into due it being meh in the offensive department but due to it's typing would still be able to tank attacks besides the fact struggle just kills you before you can even get past aggron (probably)
I was just thinking earlier today, “man it’s been a bit since I’ve seen a new challenge from Jrose” sure enough this guy blesses us with a video that’s over an hour long. What a guy. Love it
This is seriously the most amazing Pokémon challenge I've ever seen: it's so perfect in every aspect it even surpasses Aarantula's Platinum with a Shedinja and sets standards on a whole new level. Props to you man for figuring out all those brilliant strategies and thank you for the amazing content you are bringing to us.
@@otakuattackcosplays1778 His soul is the Monster soul, not determination. Player ( frisk ) is the one who gets Determination. However, player isn’t the only one. Chara also happens to have Determination.
@@otakuattackcosplays1778 Sans does not have determination (that's a fandom misconception.) If anything, he's the laziest, most apathetic character in the game.
I speak spanish, and I love the way you pronounce "juan", like "one" instead of how we pronounce it (huan or something). It has a charm to it, it makes a very common name sound a lot more mysterious
@@josephhanicak7922 Random (and overly long) Question: Is there no such thing as a Calculator or Program or Witchraft-Tool; that allows for QUICK and EASY research on-the-go about EV-Training? I mean, do i have to memorize Masses and Masses of Data about how Everything reacts to Everything?! There must be an easier way, yes? Just something that asks of me the work to memorize what Stat my Pokemon 'need' to grow in, and then i enter this simple Stuff into something. I mean, i dont wanna look up all the Pokemon And create a Custom-List for any Route i enter: Someone must have made something like this for his own re-usability, or not?!? Like: "I have 3 Magikarps. I want them to become the Fastest Magikarp and have them break the Sound-Barrier. But i also have 3 Charmander. And I'm on Route-4. So what Pokemon should i defeat here and with who??"
Honestly man, your content is both really fun and interesting to watch, and although you took a long hiatus from your channel, you came back with a bang, and the fact that you're back and passionately making videos and having fun while doing it really makes me happy. I hope that you continue to make videos and have fun doing your content. Good luck on where your channel brings you in the future, goodbye.
He truly is the best one out there. Better than others who won't be named. The detail in your videos are so evident for the user, much more than those who just rush out 1/2 efforts.
Thank god he’s not one of those tubers that take the time to EXPLAIN THE STORY. Like geez 95% of Pokémon watchers know the story, it doesn’t need to be explained
This was really interesting! When you struggled against Maxie because of his weak first pokemon, I thought "surely there must be a PP restoring berry so you can manipulate your health in the right way to get Transform back later". Then I looked it up and realized the berry triggered when a move fell to 0 PP, and thought it would be useless to you. Then just a few minutes later, you managed to use it anyway!
Ok, this run was a lot more interesting than the other ones I just watched today of yours! Yay Ditto. Hitting level 100 in the final battle is pretty poetic too.
3:03 "It takes advantage of Ditto's ability to level up." That's how you know this is going to be a rough run. When surviving random battles is the key strategy lol.
The De-leppa strategy was brilliant, but you know you could have just let the leppa proc for some transformed moves as well. Having 15 instead of 5 for some high damage sweeping moves would have been a pretty big difference
I've absolutely been loving all of these challenges. Thanks for putting so much work into them, because it genuinely is some of my favorite stuff to watch on RU-vid. It's very engaging, and it's always so cool to see you come up with strategies that no normal person would ever have to use. 200k here we come!
(6:53) Actually, Rock Throw has 90% accuracy. (65% in Gen. 1, but this isn't Gen. 1.) (29:09) Oh, that's quite interesting. I had no idea that leveling up while transformed reverted your stats back to that of your non-transformed state for the rest of the battle. Wow... So much insane strategy and luck that was needed to win. Congratulations!
I was on the edge of my seat for most of the video. Very good editing decisions to keep long fight attempts, it's much more exciting and shows the amount of work you put in. Keep up the good work J!
Oh goodness, the pain in your voice when fighting the Kingdra. I really appreciated the failed battles against Glacia, it gave me a small look at the frustration of getting so close but the fight against Kingdra was just really sad to watch.
Wow this run was especially brutal. Gotta give you a virtual pat on the back for sticking through this one. And, it was nice to finally have a face to put to the narration!
Hey Jrose I just have to tell you that I really appreciate you. Your content and your genuineness is helped me through some tough times. Thanks for being who you are. Stay true brother!
An incredibly epic video with even a face reveal at the end. What a fantastic gift. You look like a really nice guy, good vibes :). Your videos are always an instant watch for me. I know that you suffer and enjoy the challenges so keep it strong :D.
I think this challenge is by far my most favorite challenge you've done yet, loved every second of it! And you even found a new sort of glitch without it being documented clearly, that's something too
this was definitely the most intriguing Pokemon challenge yet, the way the lvl glitch worked out at the end was pure brilliance. I felt your pain and excitement every step of the way
55:49 Actually, the Spheal line only has Thick Fat in Gen 3. Between Thick Fat and Ice/Water typing quad resisting Ice, they are 8x Resisted to Ice. 57:35 In Gen 3, Blizzard is not Infinite Accuracy under Hail. In Gen 4 onwards, Blizzard becomes infinite Accuracy under Hail. 1:05:18 It's actually Dragon Fang. Not Dragon Scale. Dragon Fang is the one that boosts Dragon type moves by 10% while Dragon Scale lets you evolve Seadra into Kingdra through trade. You might have mistaken it in Gen 2 handhelds. In Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal), Dragon Scale actually has Dragon Fang's Effect unintentionally. Meanwhile, Dragon Fang in Gen 2 has no effect other than working properly in Stadium 2.
I like how at 39:07, Red/Lance's theme was played in the background. Really tells how hard Tate and Liza were in this run. Now fight Steven in the post game and beat the Frontier Brains.
He does not do Postgame bosses, since this vid is already long enough. Look at the length of this vid. Even longer than Magikarp FR/LG. Also, Frontier Brains are flatout impossible with Ditto only.
How to play a Pokémon game with Dark Souls level frustration. Genuinely in awe of the perseverance and tactics in this play through. Your vids brightened up my lockdown. You deserve every sub you get!
35:12 This is exactly why I love watching your videos and don't like a lot of other Pokémon challenge channels. Because most of the time, their strategy *is* just to level up to a ridiculous level and then breeze through the game. At that point, it doesn't feel like a challenge any more. Sure, you can beat any RPG game with any restrictions if you're at an insane level compared to the opponent. At that point it's just a numbers game. But you come up with fun strategies to avoid having to just be over leveled enough that it's impossible to loose. Even if they have to rely on luck sometimes, I'd pick that any day over the alternative. It's both much more entertaining, and much more intriguing. Because there's actual strategy, thinking and planning involved. That's what brings me back every time, seeing the human brain overcome self imposed challenges with strategy and planing. Seeing an impossible situation and thinking 'how can I do this anyways', not 'guess it's impossible to do at this lvl'. Looking forward to whatever other challenges you go for in the future my friend ❤️ (p.s obviously leveling up is necessary sometimes, but I love that that's your last resort instead of your first go to)
@@why8308 because my name is Monika, fans of me and Doki Doki Literature Club just subscribe to me when they see me in the comments 🤷🏼♀️. Even though I don't have videos 😂
Outstanding run! I love seeing the strategies you employ during your videos and especially when you pivot and have to figure out new things and try them out. I think, when all is said and done, this has been the most interesting video to date! Great work.
Jrose, I just wanted to say that you are one of the best RU-vidrs out there and you deserve more subs! I’ve tried to do some challenges myself and I still can’t imagine the amount of time and effort that goes into these videos. You’re one of the few remaining youtubers making good content for the sake of good content. This quality is better than lots of channels with over a million subs. We appreciate you, keep it up!
@@bridgeseller7004 I expect him to take a shot before attempting it. XD When Asprey is done, the recording will sound like he is high and drunk at the same time. You’d expect smeargles to do that instead. 🤨
Incredible video, it’s so clear that you put an incredible amount of effort into making your videos completely one of a kind, and rather than doing something boring, you found super interesting ways to get through all the roadblocks!
This is probably one of the biggest emotional roller coasters I have ever been on in my 20 years as a Pokemon trainer. Well done, bravo, and daaaaannnggggg.
"Claydol is just doing whatever, i'm not too worried about it" I don't know why, but i cracked up when hearing that while staring into Claydol's silly sprite
Totally crazy Jrose! You are very creative winning the diverse battles in various ways! Very 🤓! Please keep on doing more solo challenges to test out more Pokemon, like you were doing in Pokemon red/blue. Thank you for your videos! I hope to see more! Take care!
Oh man what a great challenge run! I can definitely see thd blood, sweat and tears in this one. You uncovered a new game mechanic and constantly used ingenious held items! I'm sure seeing a de-mysteryberry stategy in gen 2 would be out of the question...
Just wanted to leave a comment saying your videos lately have been a huge source of entertainment during the Covid lockdown, and I'm delighted to see that all the work you're putting into the channel is being rewarded. Feels appropriate to comment on it now, what with your outro to this video. Thanks a bunch, and I look forward to your future challenges and continued channel growth!
Great challenge, super fun! Very excited for other challenges you have planned, though I would be very fine with just regular challenges of the series for a while!
Pikasprey was the og ditto runner on youtube, but if I recall correctly he used items in battle Edit: nevermind, he also eschewed items, i must have been thinking of someone else Both of these dudes are legends of the ditto though, for sure
Just found the channel, and after 5 or 6 videos, this one hooked me. I love the content, you're great at what you do, and it's just very entertaining. Cheers!
Never really thought about what goes into using a ditto, let alone for a solo run. Your ingenuity really shined during this run. This is the most entertaining Pokémon challenge run I've ever seen and I've seen a couple of moded runs that really change up the game like, losing exp for winning fights instead of gaining exp. You're really stubborn and don't like to give up and I love that.
Man, you are absolutely nuts, I just can't believe you pull some of these challenges off xD Also, it's nice to actually see the face behind these wild challenges but... you're not actually a Kadabra?!
As a programmer, it’s not entirely surprising to me that leveling up a transformed Ditto would mess up the stats. It seems like something that would get missed in testing.
My guess is that they just missed the part in the code that tells a Transformed Pokemon to ignore the stat changes that happen when you level up so it goes ahead and changes your stats to whatever the original Pokemon's is, in this case Ditto
There aren't too many turn based Rpgs's that let you straight up level up and alter stats in the middle of a battle. Defintely understandable why they missed it.
We love ya Jrose! This is my new favorite run of yours; from the raw challenge of the run and the excellent editing. Looking forward to the next Red/Blue solos and GSC down the line if you end up doing it.
