This interviewer is rather bad at letting him complete a thought, usually interrupting to add absolutely nothing to the conversation...he powered trough it though, good for him.

Misella Landica I agree. It was so hard to listen because I just wanted to hear what he was saying but this whole audio is unlistenable because of the way she talks over the top of his answers. Had to stop after 3 minutes

I completely agree. The way she forms her sentences (no natural flow), the constant interrupting of Alain, the things she says... I managed to listen until the 10th minute when I started wondering, 'it can't be only me who thinks the interviewer is not on the top of her game' and so I started looking at the comments and what do I find first thing?...

The interviewer best strategy is to allow the person to talk freely - he is witty and quick. The interviewer looks like an obstacle.

Too bad she’s trying to impress him with her knowledge, rather than let him talk. 😖 but interviewing people is really hard. So, who knows how we would have handled it? 🙈

Viberry Toothbrush Vibrator 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. We should all take the ideas shared on this conversation and put them to use in all our relationships, romantic or not, personal or not. It has to do more with how we ourselves react to different scenarios than with the other persons actions. You seem to understand this or perhaps it just comes naturally. Either way, You win.

Terrible interviewer. Wisest man in the planet is talking and she interrupts to say nothing

Let's be a bit more generous when interpreting her behaviour. We could try looking behind the facade, as if she's a character in one of Dostoyevski's novels. In order to achieve this, let's try and picture her as a child. Not in a belittling kind of way, rather, we could try to find possible causes for her being in the situation that she's currently in. We do it naturally with children, yet we do it so seldom with adults.

It goes back to the first relationships between child and mother, at first the black and white extremes are seen, (the good and bad qualities), before there can be an understand of the an in between understand (good enough, good and bad qualities mixed)

My partner gets angry every time i pushed him to go shower. I can't even go somewhere or not shower for a day but my partner is a different story. I push him to shower n now it's get to a point that he got angry about it. 😏

Was there every a time when he did shower? I found great wisdom in this Esther Perel link. Turn our complaints into requests, like "I miss when we/you . . . " ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xl7AcgjCyLU.html

This talk is interesting, but it is strongly based on the fact that one has to have the patience to actually change the person? One has to take the burden of changing the other person for the sake of the relationship health? Where is the option of just accepting that this person in not for oneself, and we should look for something less troubled?
@sobrevida157
@sobrevida157 2 года назад
I think he would say that lots of us are in the pursuit of the 'right' person. Well, there IS no right person. And you are not right either. AND who we are attracted to is determined by our pasts: we're not looking for an all-loving person' we're looking for someone familiar, who will love us in the way of mom and dad. And this attraction is unconscious. So, you MAY jettison one relationship and 'look for something less troubled' but you will probably end up with someone as troubled.

I apologize. The end is pretty decent. I treat people like kids all the time, especially when they are bitchy. Next time, ask your boss if he wants a juice box, snuggle, or nap.

There are so many rude comments here about the interviewer. This is a dialog, not a lecture, and Alain de Botton, as adorable as he is, has a tendency to juggernaut on, kind of lecture-style; I've watched many of his lectures and listened to many of his interviews, and he has these sentences very rote. He's said them a million times before, and that comes off when he's talking. He speaks at a frenetic pace. It could be that the interviewer is trying to bring the pace down to the speed at which she and maybe her audience is comfortable with, and/or bring out more original and unique dialogue than exists everywhere else in de Botton's repertoire. I think many could benefit from checking to what degree their triggeredness to the interviewer is due to her gender.

God she's obnoxious! He has so much substance she should feel privileged to interview him. Yet all I hear is a sultry voice and not much substance. Nice conversation, not much of an interview IMO. Alain de Botton as great as ever.

Possibly the least capable interviewer ever to walk the Earth. And yet, she has a Wikipedia entry which specifically highlights her interview "style", and echoes her own solipsism: "The Tippett style", as described by the New York Times, "represents a fusion of all her parts - the child of small-town church comfortable in the pews; the product of Yale Divinity School able to parse text in Greek and theology in German; and, perhaps most of all, the diplomat seeking to resolve social divisions."[12]
