Working in China or with Chinese companies can be difficult for the unprepared due to the big differences in culture and working styles. However, for those willing and able to adapt, it can be both an interesting and rewarding experience.
In this video, I talked about the concept of "China Speed" and how foreign experts and expatriates can adapt to it, based on my 6+ years working in the Chinese tech industry, and over 10 years working in China. "China Speed" refers to the often breakneck pace at which many Chinese tech companies work, which is one reason some have been able to find success both domestically as well as overseas.

Each time I have experienced someone working fast, I was first impressed. However, almost always, I understood why they were fast, between the oversights and failures. In the end, slower first is faster in the end. Of course if they work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, they should do more in a week. Provided it's all done perfectly...

I certainly understand what you are saying, and I agree that its best to take a slow and steady approach in ideal situations. But that doesn't work with many Chinese companies. The way many Chinese companies have had to approach business operations and even production in China, the slow and steady approach, doing things perfectly every time, only resulting in them not being competitive. So that's one reason its hard for Chinese companies to shift to overseas markets, because they have to shift mindsets, take things slower, and focus more on quality.

@@SeanUM_China I could definitely not work in that mindset. Some colleagues call me "Mr 200 %". I want everything perfect, especially if I am doing the work. I have seen videos on 5 years old modern Chinese buildings, and they already fall apart! What a waste of resources and energy, pollution, etc... In the end, the whole world loses. I am Swiss, and my approach is "as perfect as possible".

I've noticed that too, I'll have to see if I can position the light in a different way.

This content is misleading and incorrect. Don't know what US firms he worked for but his assumptions regarding work conditions is far from the experiences I have being in these technology business for some 40 years. I spent time with many global firms and did not experience his views or comments on either side of the culture teams.

I guess you did not even bother to watch the video, as it's clear from both the title and content that I am talking about Chinese companies, Not US companies. Also, my experience comes from working with some of China's top tech firms, and are not assumptions - I even list one in the video if you'd like to find out. It's important to remember that just because your experience with US companies tells you one way to work, that doesn't mean other cultures' practices are wrong/don't exist.
