Hi everyone! My name is Sean, and I've worked and lived in Mainland China for over 10 years. During my time here, I've worked with a number of local companies, including tech giants such as Huawei and OPPO, and learned to speak the language fluently (Mandarin) and understand the cultural nuances. I feel a great friendship towards the Chinese people and hope to help people from other countries better understand China and the Chinese people.
I started writing articles, and later making videos on the China Culture Corner as part of this mission, and hope you'll join me on this exciting journey. If you'd like to learn more, please take a look at my website: chinaculturecorner.com/about-the-author/
There is nothing "so-called" about the advicsarial nature of China's government. They want to supplant freely elected Western democracies with their authoritarian rule. Look at what they've done to Hong Kong. Look what they[re doing to Taiwan (the REAL Chinese government in exile).
Interesting video. About the opium, I had the impression that Harris is aware of China's opium history, and uses the metaphor to insinuate that China somehow uses Tiktok to pay back / take revenge for was done to them during the century of humiliation.
I didn't get that impression, though it's impossible to know for sure since Harris never mentioned why he used the opium reference. However, from my personal perspective, thinking that China was using TikTok to get back at the West for the century of humiliation is rather willy, though it's possible it might have made sense to Harris since he was unaware many things about China, including the real reason TikTok (Douyin) in China pushes "safe" content to kids.
We all know and see the disgusting effects of this app on kids and adults. Chinese propaganda on sold out western companies is just as disgusting. The fact that you are defending this crap is as hideous as your persona.
Different areas in China have different customs concerning how the Fu character is hung. Some places turn it upside down, others right-side up. I usually prefer to hang mine upside down but not always.
It’s because they (media companies) get PAID by the US Govt (AKA Taxpayers) to put negative stories out. It doesn’t matter whether there’s any truth to them. Actually, it’s the opposite, especially on US Social media. Last year I was suspended 3 times from twttr..WHY? Well, apparently the Shanghai Communiqué and the handover agreement of 1997 are now “CCP Propaganda” and the Minsk Agreement is “Russian misinformation”. I’ve become SO frustrated and angered I keep taking breaks. I had 3 very long, well-researched articles removed from Medium. One of my late Son’s good friends from China, suggested SubStack, said he’d been on there for a few weeks, had worldwide subscribers, no problem. 3 days later as I was getting ready to sign up..he was kicked off with a form letter talking about how they MUST monitor for “foreign interference” and his articles indicated he was trying to actively spread “foreign misinformation”. Just fyi, he is a US Citizen, born in China, who was raised her but went to college in China. He’s been back in the US for almost 10years, but visits China and his family frequently. After that letter, he’s now afraid he’s been branded as some kind of spy. He’s a physician for heaven’s sake, in no way affiliated with ANY Govt…although right now, he is VERY angry at one. Free speech is as much an illusion these days as “freedom” and “democracy”. What terrifies me is how far these people are prepared to go to try and maintain hegemony. Meanwhile, here in the real world, poverty and all its social ills are skyrocketing in the US as our congress votes to send another $44B to Ukraine and tells the US people they just don’t have the money to help the people….well, UNLESS you’re a big donor, they’ll find it. If you haven’t seen the horrifying footage from the young Republican gathering in Texas from last month…the entire conference was dedicated to China. Apparently Xi is planning on raiding, taking over, and installing huge electronic billboards all over the place broadcasting his warnings about what to wear to work…offenders will be terminated. Seriously..it was some insane short film they put together. They had members of FLG their claiming “the CCP” (can’t even get the name right), has criminalized all religions…🙄. I’m past just shaking my head at this nonsense. My wonderful son had gotten to the point that all he wanted was to get back to China (he’d come back here to finish his MBA). Unfortunately, just a week after getting word his return VISA was going to be granted..our “wonderful” healthcare system failed him…he couldn’t afford insurance and the ER refused to do anything accusing him of trying to get meds. My daughter and I had told him to go get checked, because of our genetic disorder, we feared his back aches and other symptoms were caused by blood clots. 2 ER’s kicked him out. Days later, he didn’t wake up. The coroner said he had clots in his kidney that had broken loose. There’s literally millions of these horror stories. My daughter’s are both researching leaving the US. Probably not China…but I’m still working on it 😁
do you guys know any work opportunity for Biomedical science or biotechnology. Im a grad student and did 2 years of English teaching jobs, but I realized TEFL jobs r not stable for long-term interm of careers and skills.
Do enjoy the greenscreen! But do enjoy the walking around videos too haha. Just noting, audio only comes out of my right earphone for this video, unsure why.
Thanks! I'll consider a green screen for certain videos then, but definitely try and continue to get outside too. Sorry about the audio, I'll double-check before recording the next video to see what I missed.
Hi, good day! Do you mind if I ask the total estimated cost to get China work visa including all the requirements from step 1 to 2 on your video since I'm also planning to process it by my own just like you did. Thank you!
I don't think it would have been more than a few hundred dollars USD, but that was in Hong Kong coming to China in late 2020/early 2021. The requirements and costs in other countries will likely be different,.
Hello. Can you provide any guidance how I might travel to China obtaining a visa perhaps for business? I have entered pre-pandemic with an invitation letter but now I can't get clear info on how to get in under current lockdown.
If you are coming to China under similar circumstances then I assume you will need another invitation letter, and if that's the case whatever organization you are working with will need to work out the required documents and steps on the China end. And its certainly possibly that the new requirements will not let you come at present. But either way the inviting organization will be the best placed to understand requirements and next steps.
I believe that technically it's possible as foreigners can certainly start their own companies in China. That being said I'm not sure how the new government regulations on after-school tutoring might affect this type of venture.
I have got my Q1 now. I need to go back to Shenzhen asap. Do I need to fill in the custom declaration in wechat app? Do you provide a 24 hours nucleic acid test report before crossing border on same day?
Do the employers have to pay money for offering a work visa? I heard something like this and I didn't want to bother the employers for giving me a work visa. Can you pls tell me if you know
There are definitely fees that need to be paid during the work visa application process. Some are borne by the company and some by the applicant, though it could vary by situation. It's less of a both to employers compared to a long application time.
I think the new changes have so much to do with what the foreign worker needs to provide in order for the employer to get the PU letter and work permit. But you didn't say anything about what types of documents they asked from you for that.
If you get an offer from an employer in China, they will take care of finding out which documents they need from you for the PU letter. Off the top of my head I don't remember the company needing anything too difficult to get as my experience was that the PU letter was mainly an application from the company side. The main need for documents from my side came at the visa application process.

I am currently in canada looking to get back to mainland china (guangzhou). The visa centres here are closed. would a canadian be able to fly to hong kong and apply there? There is no information, My wife is chinese so i wouldget a family visa.
It might be risky to try flying to Hong Kong and then applying for a family visa there. I've never gone that route before and am not sure if family visas can be applied for in Hong Kong currently. Your wife might have better luck reaching our directly to authorities in Guangzhou/Hong Kong. In my experience there were regular updates published in Chinese on the latest border cross regulations and requirements.
I am from Ghana, and there's a requirement as published on the embassy's website that all persons willing to travel to China must first be vaccinated with a Chinese made vaccines which are not available in Ghana. But I am supposed to travel to China latest September to complete a trade agreement on behalf of my company in Ghana. I intend to stay in China for maximum of 2 weeks.
It does seem to be a catch-22 type situation. And to be honest if the Chinese embassy is sticking firm on the Chinese-made vaccine requirement, there may be no way to come to China at present.
If you want to work in China, you need an employer to complete the related application process, and then apply for the visa on your end, as detailed in the video.
Not all potential employers will be able to successfully complete the process for the documents needed for a visa application. And English teachers may not be the highest priority. That being said, I have heard different cities have different requirements.
Hi how are you?One question:The quarantine total 14 days? How about some place with 14 days + one week at home?Or 14 days + one week community quarantine? Is acceptable for the authorities to stay in a friend house after the 14 days if we don’t have a house in the arrivals place?Regards 😉✌🏻.The point is I want to arrive to a place where I don’t stay more that 14 days…Macau is 21 days straight + one week at home…crazy
As mentioned in the video, at the time of my quarantine in the Shenzhen/Dongguan area, it was 14+7 days, with the final 7 days able to be spent at your own place. Different cities have different rules, and rule may have been updates in the months since I did my own quarantine. Check official government information sources to be sure.
