I go it alone for this one. This one really drove home the point that a crew is very important. It's easy to lose track of things. In the words of the movie The Last Samurai, "Too many mind." If you mind is on too many things, you'll inevitably drop the ball at some point. I did just that. Then I fixed it in post!

Great vid! You are the only person I've seen using the godox knowled brand lights. I love mine. That key light looked super soft in the final shots.

Thanks! I know, I hardly ever see anybody using these lights either. They’re so good, but I understand why people go with Aputure. If I lived in a larger market, I would be able to rent them out a whole lot easier than these.

This is a really great video showing the solo process and how you still pursue the best possible set up, giving yourself lots of time to check that it looks and sounds good. As a solo videographer I feel pressed to cut corners to get everything done quickly, but you are really ensuring you have what you need to do the job right. Good on you for going with the flow and asking interview questions too.

8:30 I'd recommend the ikan power grip version 2 to keep power supplies from dangling. I started getting those recently and they've been working pretty well for me. Much better than the phone clamp I was mounting to the light stand to hold those bricks before.

The hardest part of solo work is the setup. Tear down can be a pain but the time it takes for setup and how important it is to get it right.

Absolutely. And we can see on that second setup, moving so fast, I missed a detail.

I shoot solo. Every day, often these size setups. You get used to it, and it becomes a debriefing time for me when you have to break up set afters.

for solo shoots the book light / sort of book light :) seems to be making life harder , two big stands , flags , taking up a ton of space , a large ish, LED matt light ,with a grid ,is going to be a lot quicker and smaller set up ? non .

You’re absolutely right. I’ve been eyeing one myself, but I just can’t bring myself to spend the $800 to get it. Not yet anyway.

Hey thanks for putting this out there I really appreciate it! Can I ask, are you typically doing just interviews or also b-roll along with it? Another question I am not too sure if you are comfortable with answering, and no problem if not, but how much would you typically charge for shoots like this?
@videopromike
@videopromike Месяц назад
@@aidantrip thanks for the question! We usually shoot B roll for the majority of interviews that we shoot, but in this particular shoot I did not. For a typical interview and B-roll shoot we would charge anywhere from $3000 to $5000, depending on what the client needs.

Do you charge more for when they want you to be solo? It's a lot more work
@videopromike
@videopromike Месяц назад
No, we would charge less if we were only to bring one guyon set. But that also means that the job will take a little bit longer because one guy has to take more time to set up. I would prefer to not be solo because it makes the job a little bit more difficult. We always charge more because more bodies on set means work gets done more efficiently, faster, and safer. Also, the more people we bring on set the more money needs to be paid out for these additional workers.
