I own this series so I'm good to know I need to try and try again if it doesn't hit the first time.

I don't know why I don't read more Trollope. I find his writing style so entertaining, but for some reason, I rarely pick up his books. I DNFd this one about 100 pages in but now I want to give it another go.

Kate, I'm behind in my Trollope reading. I have only finished The Warden so far, but now am reading Barchester Towers and enjoying it very much! I can see why so many people love Trollope. Can't wait to get onto the rest of his work!

I read this for the first time last year and loved it. Trollope writes about people so well that you are anxious for them. Certain scenes just leap out at you: George versus Burgo, the winter walk in the ruin, Glencora and Plantagenet at the breakfast table. I’m starting Phineas Finn this week.

You so make me want to read it now! It's been sitting on my shelf, but I have so many BIG books on my tbr, and Betrothed is coming up too. Have you read Lady Anna by Trollope? That also took a surprise dark turn about two-thirds in, and it was so good.

I’m so glad you persevered Kate , this is one of my favorite Trollope’s probably because of its introduction to Glencora. Thank you for the heads up as to narrator too, I’ve never listened to Trollope on audio because I get so easily distracted but think I’d be ok with ones I’ve already read. Looking forward to your thoughts on Phineas Finn, there are more politics than some of his others but Phineas is another endearing character.

The Palliser series is great. Phineas Redux and The Duke’s Children are possibly my two favourite Trollope novels, so you have some treats in store later in the series.

Thank you for sharing the challenge it was to get into the story, but that the audio helped. I was planning on adding Can You Forgive Her to my 2023 (summer) tbr. Now I'll know to start it with the audio. 🤗 OH boy, it sounds like i will not like the husband at all.

I want to read this, but I'm working on Barsetshire series first. I think I have 3 or 4 books in that one left to read.

I loved this review video, Kate! You have a truly wonderful way of making Trollope, and Victorian literature in general, so accessible, approachable, and appealing! I’ve got an opinion question for you: would I need to read the Chronicles of Barsetshire series prior to reading the Palliser novels? Is there any sort of linear or sequential aspect to the relationship between these two series?
