A while ago I was asked whether I thought it would be possible to make a polymer clay retro cane WITHOUT using an extruder. This week I decided to try and the results speak for themselves. I think.

Love this cane, I like that you have more control with the colors and the way they come out. With an extruded it’s kind of a mystery. Thanks so much for sharing your video with us. ❤️

Thank you for showing this technique, I think that I will try it. When lines do not match up, I think that is more retro, like psychedelic, which is definitely retro. I like the way it turned out and if I don't have to be so careful to make sure that the lines are perfect, I think a beginner, like me, will find that freeing. :)

Absolutely BRILLIANT! I love the retro cane and have an extruder in my shopping cart on Amazon, but I think I may remove it now that I've watched this and know it can be done without one! You are a clay designing GENIUS! Thank you for posting this and sharing your talent with the world! I love this cane you made and as it just so happens I have 5 new blocks of clay...I'm giving this a go right now!

Thank you but I have a video showing 12 things you can do with an extruder, so don't remove it yet! LOL xx

Ooo! Pretty! Thank you for making this tutorial. I watched it the other day while I was on my recumbent bike to nowhere. It's WAY too hot here to play with clay right now, but I'm going to give it a shot as soon as I can.

Wow, what a lot of work, but so clever of you to figure this out. I like the imprecise look. Seems to have more character. Thank you as usual.

I use a cake frosting tip in the place of an extruder. I just put the clay into the tip and push it out, adding more as I go...

I never would have thought you could do this without an extruder but the abstract art look is actually really cool. I wonder how it would look if you skinner blended those sheets first and then offset them the same way.

I’m SO glad you did this! I had been trying to figure out how to do it. NowI don’t have to thanks to you! I like your channel! I like to do as much as I can organically without mechanical things. Thx!

I'm thinking the same thing and think I'll give it a go. But of course, not doing the Skinner does produce more graphic results. Either way, super cool experiment with fantastic results!!

I love the abstract/smeared random colors created by the reduced slices not remaining in their lanes! This is so fun! Maybe even play more with the distortion. Not your "regimented" cane like everyone sees all the time. Fantastic!

I like the wonkiness of the handmade retro cane but good gravy I would never have the patience to get through the process. I think you are absolutely brilliant for having figured out how to do it. I did have a funny thought . . . I think square pairs might actually cost more than an inexpensive extruder. You certainly earned that cup of tea with this project. 😉

Since you are aware of this, I think you should watch it over and over until it no longer bothers you. Train yourself to realize that it is alright and it doesn't really matter. If you can work through it, you will have one less perceived problem in life. 🤗
