Hyun Minjung is a second-year student in the Department of Child Studies
Eo Gyeongin is a first-year student in the Department of Applied Food System
Jeon Yunseo is a first-year student in the Department of Journalism and Media

It's so interesting how people's environment growing up develops their accent! I lost my British accent when I left my British school almost immediately. You can clearly hear where each of the guests grew up in. Minjung could play top billing in a harry potter film and I totally agree with her it sounds more classy. Sometimes I think about teaching my students the British pronunciation of words because I can still fake the accent (poorly).

I guess the interesting thing is that, despite growing up in South Korea, the mere exposure to British content has furnished Minjung with a quality accent!! Can't wait to see her staring in Potter-based content lmao

An interesting take about learning English, as I grew up in Southeast Asia and of course people look up to American shows as the point of reference when it comes to accent. I also find certain accents more fascinating than the others but every accent has its own unique and distinctive personalities, to which I can dig into the history on how accents develop from time to time. After watching your chat with Bart, Jasmyn, and now these wonderful and knowledegeable women, I decided to sub to this channel. Really insightful! Keep doing the great work, David!

What a lovely comment. Thank you for sharing your own story and experiences. I have hundreds of students each year from all over Southeast Asia and I love the variety of sounds and accents they bring. As well as names!! Hope to keep speaking to a wide variety of people. Let us know if there are any guests or topics you would like to hear about. Really appreciate the sub and positive vibes!

@@DavidTizzard as I listened to your episode with Jacco, you talked about coffee and that makes me remember of one Barista World Champion from Korea in 2019. Her name is Jeon Jooyeon and I think she is based in Busan. Maybe you can talk with her about coffee scene in Korea and its influence in the society. I also want to hear perspective from SE-Asia students on your podcast and their challenges to adapt with Korean society. That would be awesome!
