Can you identify it? Also, changing the log file would also change the file metadata, which would be obvious. Unless you know how to change the metadata back to what it should have been (I don't personally know how to do this). I do think the Zelda audio has a discrepancy, but it's slight. Both examples have an audio cut at the exact time the warp happens, so the 'gap' in audio is not an indication of splicing. The audio discrepancy has more to do with the pitch of music before and after warp.

For the 1st example, you can also hear an audio clip when going from one room to the next ( usually happens when there is no declicking/ crossfading applied )

There's one telltale sign that it's a fake speedrun, if they're eating pizza and drinking coca cola

The main thing I learned about spotting fake runs is that without extreme knowledge of the game in question, there's almost no way of telling which run is legit and which run isn't. Unless there are big continuity errors, such as audio slicing or weird menuing

Minecraft example 2 was weird for me because you immediately turned left towards a village, skipped the food, and ran straight to a blacksmith as if you knew exactly where it was

Karl I really have to tell you this, I have never played any of the games I watch speedruns of nor do I much understand about them but you make such great videos in explaining stuff that I really get a good idea what's going on and can follow clearly. Also you have a great voice on top of it :)

Minecraft Example 1 was fairly suspect just from the way it was played. There seemed to be some muscle memory involved. Example 2 started walking in the "wrong" direction and had brief pauses of surprise and calculation that are not easy to fake.

Plot twist: Karl himself faked all those runs years ago to create a RU-vid channel explaining how they were faked years later.

Can we just appreciate the effort Karl puts in all his videos. He’s an absolute legend

Oh, I think I remember when the Drem scandal was unfolding, and people were commenting "oh, at first I thought you said that Dream cheated. Such a relief. I'm glad it was some other guy, and that Dream isn't a cheater!" If only they knew.

Spot the fake speedruns in two games I barely play, have no technical knowledge of, and know absolutely nothing about the tricks, setups, and strategies each game uses. Piece of cake.

These are always interesting videos. I actually had a slightly different reasoning for suspecting clip 2 for the Zelda comparison. In clip 2, the music has a sharp cut when Link transitions between the two rooms whereas the music smoothly fades out then changes for the next room in clip 1. To me, that seemed to be where the splice took place. So, I was surprised to get it right even if in a slightly different way. But I learned something new from your reasoning too. ☺️

The thing that tipped me off with the Minecraft clips is that the 1st one just kinda went straight into the houses/spawned right by them while the 2nd one looked around to find the houses. It was almost like the runner was anticipating a convenient spawn. Had absolutely no clue about the OOT one though.

last time i was this early todd rogers was still considered legit.

I went 2 for 2, primarily by gut feeling - the MC seed was just too good, which was what tripped me off. It would've been harder if the seeded run was in a notably average spawn, like in a random forest with no trees around, as then the tell of "that is an insane spawn" would not be present.
