I put in disability claims after I came back from Iraq. The ratings came back at 100 percent and I was medically retired from guard. While my medical retirement was processing I had to drill for free for almost two years. The guard usually will medically retire/discharge you if your rating is over 30 percent which is not a hard rating to get.

True. Anything over 30% while still serving requires an adjustment in pay. Do what you were doing was earning retirement points. As long as you were deplorable you can stay in but one out, no way you’re getting back in…

Hey @TEAM SWARTZ, Heres a good one I think you can cover on, how does security clearance work, seems to constantly come up as a debate topic at my unit, since we have people with no clearance to top, at my unit despite having the same MOS.

It’s typically MOS Specific but a unit can put anyone in for a secret clearance. Once an e7 and above, their spouse to have obtained or get one. Good idea tho!

Can you do a segment on transferring to the national guard from active duty from another branch of service. My active duty time is coming to an end soon in the marine corps and am looking to do some reserve time in the army national guard

This clip is about going Active “FROM” Guard/Reserve. Think you read that too fast lol. Can’t switch from active to Guard/Reserve until the end of your contract.

No, I read the title right, I'm saying in the video you're talking about going from active duty to National Guard. I'm just wondering if it's the same process both ways?

@@adamsegarra5683 Yeah, in the video I mention you cannot switch from active duty to the National Guard or Reserve until after you finish your contract.

I’m about to take the Asvab after taking the pre test and studying for the past 4 months. I want to go the Army reserve route since I’m having a baby with my girlfriend, we haven’t gotten married yet and after we have the baby she has to wait a couple of months to have a jaw surgery. So we sat down and thought the best option right now is for me to go Reserve that way I can come home until things settle down a bit. My question is can I go Army reserve and after a couple months or a year can I transfer to active duty? I haven’t mentioned it to my recruiter since he has been really really pushy and I don’t know if he just sees me as a quota.

They’re under a lot of pressure and that’s why it may be coming off that way. Also checkout the guard too and continue to make a well informed decision. @@Alcantara1215 Being CAT4 has nothing to do with normal benefits. It only prevents various incentives like the GI Bill Kicker, Bonuses, Student Loan Repayment. It does not prevent you from receiving Federal Tuition Assistance and the Post 9-11 GI Bill for active duty or the guard/reserves 1606 Select Reserve GI Bill. Guard members also get State Tuition Assistance in addition to everything else.

Can you be in 2 different Guard units at once? For instance I live in NY but plan to do the SF in Ohio, but I also have a local guard unit here. Just wondering if the local unit gets called up for a local emergency (like the snowstorm that hit Buffalo a few weeks ago), I could help out even if I'm with the SF Ohio Guard?

If you’re assigned to SF, that’s your duty station. Unless you’re simply going through training and once qualified in SF, you’ll conduct a lateral transfer.
