Im a prior NG soldier. Everything you said is spot on. I went through the same process last year. Here's an additional tip for those that want to go from NG/RESERVE to active duty, be sure you have records of time in services (since the day you join the army ) in you ako account. Your TIS wont count if you do not have proof of active days in the NG/Reserves. My ERB states I came straight from AIT on FEB of 2020 when I actually graduated in 2017. So I have to retrack everything and get it right. To this day, I'm still waiting for my TIS to be updated so I can get my E5. Otherwise, I would have to wait another 2 years of active service to get my promotion status.

@@TEAMSWARTZ when NG/Res soldier to go inproccessing at their new duty station, there will be a civilian who supposed to add up their active days. They will create a 1506. This is a must have or else the soldier's pay and TIS will be inaccurate.

@@esther4557 so I’m slightly confused by your comment. So your TIS won’t change or it will? Do they only count your basic/ait time or do they count the whole time you were in the guard. I was trying to get promoted. Went to the P board got the thumbs up from everyone and then I get hit I don’t have the TIS

I went into the National Guard reserves to hopefully finish college, though I need more financially stability. I have full time job. Though life and the pandemic has been slowing that down drastically. To the point that I just can't support myself, and I just need to get my head right, and maybe give it another go in my late twenties, early thirties when I finish my contract.

Thanks for your video. Please remember to turn in the DD 368 and new Active duty DD 4 from MEPS to the reserve S-1 or RPAC so we can submit it back up for the release orders. I'm currently working with the RPAC Army Reserve Personnel Action Center. I'm dealing with several Cond Releases right now. Please let me know as well if any questions for fellow Reservists wanting to submit these requests.

What does one do without much help from their unit? My son has been out of basic since Dec 2020 he submitted his packet through his proper chain and it’s been returned several times for what ever reasons , he is brushed off and don’t get the guidance to help him. He is struggling financially because of the pandemic and trying to find help as a reservist is like talking to the air! He is basically told we done our part it’s out of our hands , but when he shows for battle assembly it’s been returned 🤭 He calls his NCO they tell him they will call back and never do ,they all have been AD he is the lowest man on the Totem pole so he feels like he’s not being heard, Im so disappointed and feel helpless for my soldier. Same story every time

If you’re reading this, learn a bit from my issues I’ve had thus far in transferring. 1. My packet has got sent back TWICE at various levels for small details being missed by S1. Ask whoever’s handling your packet (respectfully) to please double check every box that it’s filled out correctly. 2. Understand this process can be incredibly long. Basically between lazy personnel at S1, and forms getting sent back, my process has now been about 7 months total. And that’s just getting the packet to division (which is hopefully the final approval authority). My packet could easily be sent back at any time now for some other unforeseen issue. So all in all IF my packet gets approved, I’m looking at basically no less than 9 months from packet being put together to final approval. This is not an easy process, nor is it a quick process. I’ll update this comment when I get a final answer.

Is it possible to do a video like this one but for officers please? Also when you go from reserve/national guard to active you could possibly lose your rank and have to go down one rank as well correct? I am an ARA and I can tell you that this packet is a thorn in my side. The basic forms in this video is spot on. However like SFC Swartz says it also depends on what your chain of command wants within this packet. Remember the saying you can add to but not take away from the regulation. One example being in the 4187, and the soldier justification memo has to specifically talk about being offered deployment, ADOS, AGR program to try to fix what ever the issue is like financial problems to keep you in the reserves. As far as continually following up with your Admin rep in your unit I tell all of my soldiers to continually check in with me. Like he said we have alot on our plate (specially when under staffed) and when everyone's issue is the most important it makes it hard at time to prioritize things. However I do ask the soldiers to go through their NCO chain as much as possible. That way they are in the loop as well. But with the timing from start to finish in my experience can be way longer than 45 days. Assuming everything in the packet is 100% correct. For it to go all the way up the chain and back has taken as long as 6 months. Remember that's not including if there are any errors that need to be fixed, or someone higher thinks that their interpretation of the regulation is correct and kicks it back to be changed to fit what they think is the correct. I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.....lol

WOWWWW!!! I am a prior active duty Marine who went Army National Guard. I wanted to go Active Duty and have submitted a 368 form myself. All of this advice is priceless! If I had seen this video before it would have made the whole process a lot easier. In the end, they only allowed my 368 to be active for 5 months. This was not near enough time though. Keep in mind the Active Duty side of things CAN NOT start anything until that 368 is approved. So that means after it's approved (which is going to take many months) you only have those 4-8 months (however long they grant you. In my case it was 5) to complete everything. That's MEPS, wavier, etc. Anything and everything. Between the time it takes all of that to get approved, especially someone like me who was prior service, that just isn't a realistic time frame. Especially if you wanted to go Officer. Then a 368 isn't even really an option because you do not have the time for that. You would have to have pull some crazy extensions on your 368 if you plan on going Officer or WO. Believe me, I tried. Basically, if you wanted to go Guard/Reserve to Active Duty then enlisted is possible assuming you have a very easy path. For me, I had eye waivers that needed to be submitted to MEPS before I could even go (even though in the end it didn't matter). All of that takes weeks and months, especially during COVID times. Keep in mind there are many reasons why you might get approved. I was prior service and therefore was not MOS qualified and had no bonus. If you had ANY INCENTIVES given to you, that will be a factor. That means sign-on bonus, AIT length, all of that. You might be requested to give back all of that if you wanted to go active. It's overall a very very complicated process. This video does a good job though of shedding some light on the battle you are in for. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. This video is amazing. Please keep up content like this sir

@dontspeaktoelectrohead1491
@dontspeaktoelectrohead1491 7 месяцев назад
I was dumb and didn't read between the lines that you don't get to live on base in barracks, and that "Full Time" or whatever it's called is hard to get and can take years. I'm a few weeks away from basic and I'm smashing the DD-368 button like it's Jeoprady. All I wanted was 3 hots and a cot, and I played myself. When it comes to recruiters understand it's a game-not-the-player kind of deal (more or less) and the only person to blame is myself. All that being said, do not make my mistake. Even if it takes months and you're about to sign the dotted line, ask the Liason everything you asked your recruiter and if it smells fishy ask to go home, speak with whomever you trust the most, and decide. I have to go through more bs to get what I wanted, and I'll have to wait a year from now to even begin the process. Thank you for making this video, if only I had the Delorian

What happens when you are ETSing from the guard & want to go AD? I was AD as a 25b went NG for a 1 year contract & now thinking about going AD again? Do I need these forms or steps? I would be regularly ETSing from the guard? Would I just sign a new AD contract?
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ Месяц назад
Make sure your complete your PHA before ETS’ing so that your Army Recruiter can have you avoid a new MEPS Medical exam. I’d say start 1-2mo in advance and understand that for the most part the prior service business rules apply but verify if there’s an update to these here: PRIOR SERVICE BUSINESS RULES: armyreenlistment.com/site/prior-service-business-rules/ You’ll ETS, receive a NGB 22 (National Guards version of a discharge document) and discharge orders. Then you can go through the regular army recruiter for a new contract with active duty. Thank you for watching and stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Is looking to go either AGR or Active for 2-3 years (is under the maximum age limit), then wishes to retire. Would you recommend one over the other? If so, could you please elaborate on why? Financial hardship/struggle to find full-time work would be the reason TYIA

Not knowing a few details to your unique situation and circumstances but yes, if you want to apply for and get on some temporary full time orders for a few years for financial reason, definitely go for it. It will add more retirement points for when you retire as a reservist, which increases the monthly retirement payments. By how much not sure for this area of knowledge isn’t something I’ve done a whole lot of research in. I did a video on full time opportunities within the guard here: FULL TIME NATIONAL GUARD/RESERVE OPPORTUNITIES: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mN6pB_nuMxo.html Hope this helps and good luck! Same process with the DD368 Request. With current events with each branch of service struggling to recruit and retain service members, expect a delay in the process and a possible denial. Prior Service is treated differently and won’t be an issue except, you’ll have to worry about Time in Service and Time in Grade for Rank while on Active Duty. They have timelines for how long you can hold a particular rank before you’d have to be discharged for essentially not growing and moving up in the ranks in a timely manner. Make sense? What happens if a Reserve soldier finishes his 6 years contract and he wants to sign a new contract of 4 years active? For the 20 years retirement purposes, they count both contracts or the soldier loses his first 6 years?

All are creditable for retirement but understand that all years will be factored in for reserve retirement and for active duty, you’ll need 20 years active to get active duty retirement. I’ll be doing a video on this in the future so stay tuned. Thanks for the question!

Do you get discharge papers with character of service when you transfer from USAR to ARNG? I got an approved 368 to transfer do to unit reorganization and the desire to take a job that required me to be in the ARNG after 2 years of being in the USAR. VA is saying I NEED to show character of service for the 2 years in the USAR despite having orders and the 368.

You’ll need your discharge orders from the USAR. However, most VA benefits require 6yr part time service or 90 consecutive days of qualifying federal active service other than BCT/AIT or OSUT. Which VA thing are you trying to qualify for?

We have a child and chose Reserve as the best option for stability for our family life right now. You mentioned transitioning to Active Duty from Reserve in this video. What about re-enlisting as Active Duty AFTER completely your 6 yr contract with Reserves? How does that work?

Congrats and thanks for watching. That works too. Just need a copy of their Discharge Order from the Army Reserve and reapply like he joined the Reserve. Instead of going active duty he may wanna checkout AGR positions within the Reserve. Hey there SFC. Just stumbled upon your video over this topic. I'm currently on my 4th out of 6 years in the Arkansas NG and have been in a rut for awhile. I'm 28, single with no kids and honestly have been thinking about making the switch. I just finished up BLC as a specialist and was wondering does rank and such transfer? Also, I have an LOD from basic for a stress fracture that happened and am currently on permanent profile for running (I do the rowwing event on ACFT). I'm guessing that would disqualify me from being able to switch? I would love to do active duty as I need a change of scenery and pace in my life and love the comradity the army offers. Thank you for the video and any help you could offer 😊 🙏

MOS opportunities are based on the Prior Service Business Rules which you can find here: PRIOR SERVICE BUSINESS RULES: armyreenlistment.com/site/prior-service-business-rules/ As for the Bonus, you’ll have to pay back a pro-rated rate for the unserved portion of the Bonus contract length. For easy numbers let’s say you signed a three year contract with a $9k bonus and you completed 2yrs so far with one year left. You’ll owe $3k for that one year left of your contract you won’t be completing. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

So I ETS this December and I’ve been considering active Duty for quite some time. I want to do more than just one weekend a month in the Guard. Currently, The guard is offering a 20K lump sum reenlistment bonus for another six year contract so I’ve been considering that option too. Would it be easier to just “get out” of the guard first, and then reenlist with an active duty recruiter? I also have a two year standby as part of my original contract. Do I still have to go through my unit to switch to active duty if I don’t sign a new contract with the guard?
@TEAMSWARTZ

Don’t stay Guard because of the money. Never do anything for money. Do it because it’ll make you happy and you just told me that you’re not happy enough to remain in the Guard. Go scratch that itch and go active duty. Make sure your PHA is up to date and start the process with your Active Duty Recruiter 30 days out. Once you obtain your NGB22 or Discharge orders you can go active duty. Your guard unit has nothing to do with that unless you’re applying for a conditional release. Between you and me, the state isn’t going to release you due to low numbers currently. You can def try regardless what I say but don’t hold your breath. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi. I have a question. My husband, who has been in the guard for about 10 years now, only joined the guard through a cat 4 (waiver) due to high line scores, but failed the asvab. Will he have to retake the asvab before trying to transfer to active Army ? He’s getting different answers from recruiters. Also, I looked at the business rules and don’t see his mos (91p). Does that mean he would have to wait for that mos to appear there, or will he need to reclassify? I apologize if these are silly questions. I’m just the spouse of a service member. Thanks so much!
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 9 месяцев назад
The AFQT requirement for scoring 31 and above is only for initial entry into the military. As long as his scores are on a REDD report it has a copy of his official scores, retesting isn’t necessary if he’s got line scores for the MOS’s or opportunities interested in. If going Active Duty in the Regular Army, Prior Service rules will apply: PRIOR SERVICE BUSINESS RULES: armyreenlistment.com/site/prior-service-business-rules/ If going Guard or Reserve, any MOS that he’s otherwise qualified for and available is an option for him. Good Luck in MEPS and may the MEPS Gods forever, be in your favor! 💯 Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

OCS OPTION OVERVIEW: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JTAfIMhY6pI.html You can possibly go AD as described within the video but worst case scenario, the end of your contract. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Is there a reason why soldiers cannot switch active duty to national guard/reserve?
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 3 года назад
It’s against regulation to go full time to part time. You can only go from part time to full time or from full time to another full time.

Are conditional release for officers done through HRC or can it be done with the active duty recruiter?
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 2 года назад
That’s a really good question and if you DM me on Instagram @TeamSwartz or email me, I’ll look it up in the regulation and confirm with our IST Coordinator. Email is in the description area…

Do you get to keep your same mos? And do you have to go back to basic? Also, do you have to be a certain rank?

Do you know if guardsmen looking to go active can request a duty station? Or is it wherever big army needs you?

I doubt you respond this long away from publish date but. I got my ID with the gaurd and I want to go active now. My recruiter told me I'd have to get through BCT first because I already have weekend drills and the ID. Is this true?

Can you switch to active duty from the guard as an officer?
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 5 месяцев назад
When your contract is over, yes and you’ll typically go through HRC for this if I’m not mistaken. This process for Officers is not my expertise and when I ask around, I typically get passed around until I give up looking when searching for definitive answers. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Hey Sgt! If I was to write a compelling letter to the Commander as to why I need to go active, how do I start? Is there a format or anything?
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 2 года назад
It’ll be spoken when you’re being counseled. You should write your reasons in the rebuttal portion where you sign your counseling statement. As long as you state around what I share in the video, will increase the chances for a more favorable outcome. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼 Good Luck!

I went from AD to NG when I was 2 months from my ETS. I am not in the process of going from NG to Reserve, waiting to get my DD 368 signed

I'm going Army reserve OCS. Is it harder or easier to activate? I'm going CBRN branch. Thanks. My husband is an enlisted Sgt as well. We will be Dual military if that makes any difference.
@blackturtle9347
@blackturtle9347 3 года назад
It's probably about the same but it might be a little harder bc you will have more responsibilities since you will likely be a PL and I would guess that will make it either be a longer process or in a given case be nearly impossible
@TEAMSWARTZ
@TEAMSWARTZ 3 года назад
When you say activate, are your referring to having the ability to volunteer to deploy with another unit in the event your current unit is not currently deploying or? Dual Military and volunteering isn't going to make a difference but if you volunteer without your spouse, you'll understand you'll be away from them for that mission. DM me on Instagram @TeamSwartz if you'd like to take this convo further. Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼
