Some people found the chorus underwhelming and wanted a full chorus, but a lot of people knew that YG doesn't like full choruses.

I think it’s because YG hyped it so much to the point that it was gonna be “the best solo out of all of bp” but it was more underwhelming and like a regular song type of thing. I like the song but it’s no one-of-a-kind masterpiece

i want to add that the backlash doesn’t have to come from south korea in order for an idol’s career to be affected. tzuyu and the whole taiwanese flag scandal made the chinese fans very angry and she had to film a whole apology video. it really depends on how valuable the the country the idol offended is to the group’s success. for example, the chinese, japanese, and indonesian markets are very lucrative, not just the korean market.

I don't understand why knetz/koreans support Soojin but not Garam. Yes, Soojin deserves all the support, don't get me wrong. But Garam was also proved innocent so I don't really understand why they are against her. I want to try and understand why this. Once again, I have nothing against Soojin, she deserves the best.
@2xsunny
@2xsunny Год назад
I think it's bc fans had a longer time to know and appreciate Soojin before she was removed from her group, meanwhile Garam barely had time to thrive in her group and build a better connection in comparison.

I feel cancel culture in K Pop mostly thrives in these conditions: 1. It offends South Koreans 2. If the K Pop group is marketed to a particular place that isn't South Korea and that place finds offense in whatever was done 3. Anything that looks like it can upset the parasocial relationship system. 4. Anything that looks unprofessional or unethical (especially in South Korean culture) And let's remember cancel culture is a bandwagon trend Where I feel cancel culture in K Pop does not thrive: 1. Anything that offends the international fan base.

For Seungri, he has no chance of returning back to the industry, he is cancelled, he will face heavy backlash even if he tries to. For Garam, the public opinion is quite against her, it's mainly international fans who still support her so she can return in theory but she won't be well recieved at first but it's different for Soojin, the public still supports her and she will be well recieved if she does want to return.

If they still have a career then they aren’t cancelled
@theonlyreallovelyzstan
@theonlyreallovelyzstan Год назад
Because even though they were “cancelled” the backlash really only last for a few weeks and then fans go back to loving them like nothing ever happened. At most they’ll get hate comments every here and there, but at the end of the day, the idol still will have a huge and loyal fanbase so they really weren’t even cancelled. For example, Chaeyoung, Giselle, the entirety of Super Junior, the list goes on. Cancel Culture sure does have its effects, but does it really taint a career as bad as people say it does? No not at all

My issue with cancel culture especially within the kpop community is that kpop fans act as if whatever the idol did or said affected them when in reality these fans don’t even care about what the idol did , majority of these fans just like to hate on these idols and cover it up by saying dumb things like "oh no we’re just educating them” ect. And the crazy thing is that the people that love to participate in cancel culture have family members and friends that say or do problematic things but they would never hold them accountable or treat them they way they treat these k idols. Just shows that these fans don’t really care about what the idol did they only wanna participate on hating and being online trolls.

Cancel culture is as toxic as the reasons people get cancelled for. Yes kpop fans are crazy, and hate exists , but the cancel culture affects every aspect of life now and it's despicable. But whether cancel culture exists or not, The thing I've realised about kpop is whether idols are perfect or not, they are constantly criticised anyway. For example Wonyoung, I've never seen and heard so many people going after a teenager for absolutely everything and anything she does. She was mocked and scoffed at for eating a strawberry with 2 hands for crying out loud. So yeah cancel culture exists to a degree, depending on seriousness of the controversy, but the constant negative attacks on idols all the time is even worse

@@niraxlevi9930 But a grapist would get cancelled by police anyway because they are breaking laws, anyone can be have allegations of bullying thrown against them and they get cancelled for nothing, there's a big difference. Im surprised no ones mentioned it yet but I my opinion I think the only kpop idol who was actually "canceled"(she's prob can still jump back in the Industry if she wants to) is amber from f(x), and the only reason I think that is, is bcs she relied on the western fandom to push her so when they backed from her after her comments during blm it was kinda hard (maybe,maybe not) for her to bounce back, now being known as a flop.

I disagree with a lot of this. Not the part about stans being dramatic and exaggerating most things, but the part that people can just pick up and restart or improve their careers. If I were running any of the Big 4 companies, will I risk my shareholder's interest to bet on Garam or the others? It's far more likely that a much smaller company will take that risk because they have less to lose. But at the same time, they won't have the same resources to invest so the success of these canceled idols is far from realistic. In any case, your theories are entertaining. Let's not forget that idols wholly depend on a capitalist foundation to rise. The cancel culture is indeed toxic, for the reasons that idols are not treated like humans.

The thing about bullying in korea though is that is HEAVY. VERY bad kind of bullying people can or can't believe in the west. So when theres a bullying scandal, its handled really seriously. A fight in the school is enough to make the person not able to be an idol.

This video is literally my thoughts. I think it exists in the sense that people are so eager to cancel and hate people. Like you have people looking at newly debuted groups and counting down the days until they say/ do something problematic “so they have a reason to hate them” and really I think it’s gross. Though in that same breath I don’t think it effects idols the way everyone says it does. I mean you got idols wearing hate symbols, saying slurs with their whole chest, hell some even commit literal crimes. Which to me are awful things and the backlash they get from it (sans the hate comments and dts) are understandable, but as long as they apologize and “reflect” they’re gonna be fine and it won’t last long. Look at Chaeyoung. Everyone swore she was cancelled and it was over for twice, but in the end she wrote her 3 sentence apology, reflected for a week and went back on bbl like nothing happened. Now, if you say what she did was wrong fans will jump you instead and create all kinds of excuses. So does cancel culture exists yes. Does it really effect idols the way people think? No as long as your fanbase is big enough you’ll be alright

Even that little actuall cancel culture that exist need to go. I cant believe people were rooting and empathize with imaginary bully victim but when Garam was kicked out it was "you only knew her for 2 weeks" or "you stan anyone if their korean" As IF they knew the alleged victims for ages. I dont need to know shit about Garam to root for her. Poor girl went through so much at such a young age. Korean netizen are trying the outmost to cancell a boy from RIIZE (dont know his name sorry) all becuase he dated girls and smoked!! Like thats crime!! Mabye they can debute again but its not the same. I think we all should stfu and make PERSONAL decisions.dont like someone? Think they're problematic? Stop consuming stuff they put out. Im sick and tired of kpop twitter trying to inform who should I cancel cuz if not Im the most horrible being on earth and should get dogpiled and get called names.

cancel culture as it functions in kpop is honestly just fanwar fodder and treated as an opportunity to strengthen the parasocial bond a fan has with their idol -oh wow idol x did smth terrible but /my/ special pookiebear would never!!!1!!!!- , excise a parasocial threat -idol x's group is in direct competition with my group for popularity so let me drag idol x with more vitriol than needed bc now my irrational hatred for them can be rationalized due to this one mistake- , or feed a savior complex if their idol is the one that's receiving the cancellation efforts -ugh people are sending my idol so much hate so i just have to protect them even harder because no one else can see the goodness in their hearts like i can!!11!!-

k-pop idols aren't perfect. Their company is trying to make them seem perfect. We only see what companies want us to see but sometimes there are things that just get out of control. I know it's difficult to accept that your favourite k-pop idol was once a bully. Or maybe wasn't. Maybe k-pop idols who got accused of bullying didn't bully anyone and some k-pop idols who are praised by their fans were the worst bullies. We will never know. That's why the cancellation of k-pop idols is stupid. Why are you cancelling a k-pop idol for saying one thing when you send love to the other that might be a bully ? And why are you even putting efforts into cancelling a k-pop idol that is innocent or not if there will always be a bunch of fans who will support them even if they kill someone anyway ? Because of the perfect image companies are creating for their idols sometimes we're not able to accept the truth anymore. We're not able to accept that a k-pop idol would do anything bad. It's just not possible to accept it when k-pop idols are meant to be perfect. right ?
