Teddy was one of my first Stelfonta patients that I treated in the US with this new FDA-approved intratumoral treatment for mast cell tumors. His journey was different from Tucker, who I showed you in my previous vlog.
In this vlog, you will see Teddy’s Stelfonta journey from injection to aspirate at his 1 month follow up.
Be sure to watch vlog # 130 to learn all the details on Stelfonta for MCT including what is it, what to expect with treatment and after, side effects, how effective is it, which dogs should be treated with Stelfonta, and how do you get this treatment.

I’m literally crying watching you deliver stelfonta. I’ve been an investor in Qbiotics since 2009 and to finally see tiglinol tiglate being used in real life situations (as opposed to case studies) it’s a long time dream come true. Thank you Dr Sue for sharing this and your continual coverage of your stelfonta results. Approval for use in other cancers, and other species, including humans, is coming...hopefully soon. It’s such a powerful gift to the world. Exciting times for sure!

I'm glad to see this dog's tumor reacted well to the treatment, especially in that spot. My Boston Terrier has had two separate tumors in two different legs treated with Stelfonta over the course of 1-1/2 years The first was a textbook case and he had no side-effects from the treatment and the tumor was gone in a few weeks. The second tumor was much bigger and, post treatment, ended up with a serious infection. He lost a lot of weight from not eating and vomiting, due to the pain and swelling, but after additional treatment by a great vet, he rebounded. About 6 weeks after the Stelfonta shot, he's back to his old dog self. It looked like a bloody nightmare a few weeks ago, but the wound is now about 5 mm and still healing. I have no doubt this dog will have a few happy years left in him.

The book: the dog cancer survival guide. Is a great book...but it was published in 2011 and at that time dr. Sue was living and working in new York. Now she has a clinic in Norwalk CT... Of course the book would not say that....i didn't see her Dr sue cancer vet videos until after my dog died. Timing is everything, and knowing where to go to get the knowledge needed is vital. I truly wish I had discovered Dr sue when my dog first got the cancer. There needs to be more national knowledge of the options for cancer care and who does it, a simple practical list of doctors that handle cancer in dogs and how to get in touch with them. So much valuable time got wasted looking and searching and asking, when all vets should have this practical list and refer u to the list so you can make the best decision in the beginning. As time goes on and the cancer grows, your options reduce until you have no options left and ur dog dies. That's why it's critical for the information to be presented in the beginning and then see those doctors.

Thank you doctor Sue for your videos, I tell people with dogs about you. Especially if their dog has cancer. It's good to have the correct doctor examine ur dog, and have more opinions than just one, and recommendations for other doctors and other possible treatments.

Just want to give my experience. My dog Django is a pitbull and he has a grapefruit sized tumor on his elbow that’s gross and big. He was given a cancer diagnosis and only given 6 months- 2 years to live…I did a lot of research and changed his diet to only chicken and greens with CBD isolate twice a day and his tumor grew wayyy slower and took 6 years to get this big so I highly suggest raw food. My dogs 75 lbs and it costs me about 10 bucks a day..I’ve seen 4 vets and all say don’t remove it due to how much they’d have to remove and the skin would be too tight after ..I don’t know what to do anymore :( it’s about to burst finally and idk what’s gonna happen. Every vet said just leave it but in about to have no choice .

My pit has a similar sized one on his neck/shoulder, not diagnosed though. It grew very slowly over the last year and a half, then more than doubled in size when I was away for a month. He's around 12 now I think... how's your guy doing?

Why can’t we use the Pet Tumor Tracker app in the US?! Our three dogs have had so many lumps mapped by our vet but we’re spending extra time, worry, and money bringing them in extra times because we can’t recall which lumps have been mapped and deemed skin tags or cysts, and which are new lumps needing to be checked out. There are so many we can’t keep track and we NEED this app!

I understand there are size restrictions, but what about if the mast cell tumor is in the nasal cavity? Is Stelfonta a possibility in those cases?

I am experiencing the wrath of Stelfonta atm. My pit has a grapefruit sized tumor on his hind leg. We decided on the injection in hopes to releive the pain and deliver comfort. If I could I would rewind time. I was fully aware of the vomiting, diarrhea and the EXCESSIVE bleeding. What I was not prepared for was the shortness of breathe and brink of death to my perfect boy. We r in shambles and somberly delivering him back to the vet this evening. Wished I could see the future, would have let nature take its course my poor shiny man is suffering, he didnt deserve this.

Thank you for this! I wish this treatment was available in my country, my dog had a low grade non metastatic mast cell tumor and would've been the perfect candidate. Luckily he is now 6 months in remission after aggressive surgery, but the recovery and long term wound care were such a pain.

Hi…so because the treatment was not available, the initial low grade NM mast cell tumor eventually metastasized? And required more aggressive treatment? I have a mini schnauzer that just received treatment and we’re on day 3. 😖😔the recovery is looking to be a difficult one for my schnauz.
@kimpena8993
@kimpena8993 3 года назад
@@shandolynhawkins2173 hi! Aggressive surgery was the only treatment my dog received. The mct was low grade and stage 0, so he had a high chance to fully beat cancer with just that. It was effective but he endured months of wound care, routine aspirates to check the surgery site and pain management. With love and patience things are good now and he is healthy :)

I'm not quite getting what you're doing. On another of your videos I asked you if there were any Stelfonta studies in which you and the manufacturer were NOT involved--- so that there could be an assurance of no conflict of interest in your promotion of the drug or the studies themselves. So far I don't believe you've responded. Also, on Instagram you list yourself FIRST as an entrepreneur, which, for a vet specializing in cancer treatment, seems off-putting. Can you point to any INDEPENDENT studies about the efficacy of the drug? If not, I would never try to treat my dog's cancer with Stelfonta (and no doubt spend a whole lot of money that might be better spent on proven treatments). Sorry to be so blunt, but as a dog-owner (whose dog just had a brush with a mast cell tumor that was successfully removed by surgery), I'd hate to think that the drug is simply being pushed by the manufacturers and an "entrepreneur" veterinarian, with little-to-no proof of efficacy, to people simply trying to spend what they can to help their dogs survive cancer.

Hi Dr Sue, would you be able to provide additional info on whether Stelfonta is triggering any type of whole body/systemic immune response that may prevent recurrence or future MCTs? I've recently started the Tagamet/Benadryl protocol with holisitic diet for my pooch (thinking we need systemic changes to get rid of the existing MCT and prevent new) just wondering if Stelfonta has any systemic benefits or if it's only treating the tumor it's injected into?

My dog had stelfonta 10 days ago for a small tumor on her hock. As I write this, half of her leg has liquified and is gone. This is not an exaggeration. I am currently considering amputation. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT
@DrSueCancerVet
@DrSueCancerVet 2 года назад
Hi Julie. I’m sorry to hear about your dog’s tumor and this wound. We do know that a certain subset of dogs have a more extensive wound. I cannot see it, but I wonder if it is similar to the wound on the product label. There are ways that your dog can be helped, so please reach out to your veterinarian for help in managing this. Your veterinarian should consider reaching out to the Virbac team directly (number below) to see if they can provide any advice in your pet’s case. Also, you can reach out to Virbac who can help as well but will need your veterinarian to prescribe any medications. The good news is that even the extensive wounds that I’ve seen and the one on the product label has healed, it just takes longer. An amputation is your and your veterinarian’s call, and you may consider looking into this, or giving the wound more time to heal. I would also encourage you to reach out and call Virbac about this at 1.800.338.3659 Option #1.

@@victoriabrown7566 my dog is doing great. After the 3rd injection it finally worked. I was stoked. The MCT is all gone and the ear is all intact. It has a small darker spot where it was but completely flat. We see our oncologist every 3 mo for follow up and she was just seen in June and everything looks great. I hope you choose the stelfonta route first before you choose to completely remove the ear. Im glad your seeing an oncologist. Good luck and keep me posted. I would love to hear the results.

@@victoriabrown7566 I have a carolina dog female. The only isdue with stelfonta is that we aren’t removing the mct surgically so we cant send in for grading or look for clear borders on the specimen because there isn’t one. But you actually see it dying/ swell and ooze, but it does heal really well and clean with very minimal scarring. Before stelfonta was available she had one removed on one of her hind legs and there is a huge scar with hair loss around it. It took much longer to heal especially for a dog like her with tons of energy. It was graded a level 2 with very narrow clear borders. So far shes only had these 2. But now with every little bump i find on her shes off to the oncologist to have it checked. Oh i forgot to mention that she was on Benadryl therapy for awhile even after the stelfonta injection. She has been off now for a little over 6 mo. She seems to be doing good. We Keeping our fingers crossed more dont show. I have also changed her diet to pre made raw and have added probiotics, live enzymes, coconut oil, manuka honey to her diet. She is thriving. I wish your pup the best of luck and don’t be afraid to ask questions when u do see the oncologist. I hope he finds that your pup is a good candidate to receive it.

Now we have the very aggressive one on his ear. I wish RU-vid would allow pictures to be shared. His diet is also raw. We feed him Answers along with their fermented goats milk. I am so thrilled for you and your baby girl. Thriving is what we want for our pets. Strangely Titus demonstrates no pain and doesn’t skip a beat. He’s a happy go lucky boxer. With all the energy.
