I remember that, wasn't it back in 2017 or something like that? I remember thinking the name was way too obvious considering the then inflamed political and racial relations. I gave her a few chances but never got quite rid of the feeling that she wasn't being sincere. There were some things I agreed with her on, and I actually liked what many people dislike about her, her attitude, but I came to the conclusion that conflict and disagreement are her identity and those were the driving force behind her whole activism.

I think what Candace was saying is to stop focusing so much on the classification and use of "genocide" to describe mass killings because of how the word has been changed and used for political purposes. I think the problem is that both sides of the debate are fixated on "genocide", one side screaming it out until its lost all meaning and the other side putting on the "um actually this isnt a genocide 🤓☝️" hat and glossing over the loss of life altogether. Just toss out "genocide" all together and look at the loss of life on both sides, the goals and motivations of both sides, the tactics being used, attempts to avoid civilian casualties vs attempts to target civilians, and start the argument from there. But the debate seems to always start and end on "this is a genocide. This isn't a genocide".

So you all want to redefine words now? Wasn't she the same one talking about the left cannot redefine words like what is a woman? Now you are okay with redefining the word genocide? Seems like you all move the goal post each time to fit your own narrative. Genocide is not based off of a number. The LITERAL DEFINITION of the word is the deliberate and INTENTIONAL killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. The only time she used it was in her initial "genocide is wrong no matter who does it" tweet, and we can infer all day about who or what she was referring to, but the actual tweet made no direct accusations. Then this sparked a debate about whether or not Israel was commiting a genocide, as have many discussions about the conflict. Never from her mouth has she stated Israel is commiting genocide and has actually skated around using the term for those very reasons. Now the point she's trying to make with Pierce is that, genocide or not, a lot of Palestinian civilians, including children, have died and its unacceptable. I agree with Candace that the semantics over "genocide" is not productive, and the overall dismissiveness of the loss of palestinian lives, or at least the refusal to acknowledge it as something tragic is not a good look. But this is also where I have some disagreement, because I don't think counting bodies during an active war is constructive when you don't account for WHY the number is so high. My main problem with both sides is that we focus so much on whether or not it's a genocide that we never move past that discussion into something more productive, like why the casualties are so disproportionate, how the numbers can be misleading, realistic options for civilians to avoid getting caught in the crossfire, if Israel can or can't do more to prevent the loss of life, what they have already done, and what they could have done better. I lean towards Israel in this conflict, but I don't think the pro Israel side is very good at articulating their views to people who don't already support Israel by default. There's a lot of ad hominem attacks and misrepresentation of views that devolve into "you just hate Jews!" "you're a terrorist/hamas sympathizer!". Even this video can be summed up to "gosh Candace (and by extension anybody who agrees with her) is so dumb for calling this a genocide". The same way the pro Palestine/anti israel side likes to call everyone a zionist like it's some sort of slur, accuses everyone of supporting genocide, and is rather dismissive of what Hamas has done to ignite this entire conflict.
