liking the merits of both: instant gratification for these, cliff-hanger anticipation of the others… I know you don’t have time to mess with fragrances that don’t wow you off the bat…but would love maybe a redemption episode, where you find redemptive mixes for fragrances that fell short but had promise…you have great insights and would love to see how your instincts lead you toward winning combinations 👍🏼
Hi Wade..I wanted to let you know that this format of reviewing new scents is fantastic! I appreciated that you took the time to really go over each scent and even make comparisons to similar scents that Candlescience offers. I am definitely going to try Christmas Hearth! Thanks ☺️
🤣🤣 Wade; "I'm going to add another drop of orange, we're gonna gamble here" that had me laughing out loud here, at 5 in the morning. 🤣🤣🤣 I love experimenting with color, I get that, love your work Wade!!
Also thank you for testing and sharing your burning thoughts because I hate when folks claim they are testing but then they just make them. Lol it’s like hold up you missed the part that I came here for lol
Lol yah I hear ya. I want you all to follow along not just for trust reasons but I just find it more enjoyable. I try to make videos that I would want to watch. Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't. Lol
Thanks Wade. Loved the new format. Your videos are always great and very informative, but I really appreciated that you also referenced so many other FOs when talking about each new scent. As someone who works with FOs (as I'm sure most of your audience does) it was super valuable info and provided a much deeper frame of reference. Really appreciate all that you do!
I appreciate the knowledge you share as i can use it even if i am not doing jar candles. Thanks for all you do for us!!! I have a friend testing my candles for me and it seems that i found the right wick! yay me!
I like this format, and I really love the commentary about comparing the scents to other CS products. PS....When you put on those gloves I feel like I'm watching an episode of Forensic Files
Hi Wade, I am new here, never made a candle in my life but want to make wax melts to give as gifts this Christmas and I’m loving your videos. Sad I’m in the UK and don’t have access to CandleScience but I can make do. I really like this format of fully opening and closing each scent as you go along. Thanks for the content 👍🏼
Wade, thank you so much for your time and effort of your reviews. This method is so much easier to keep my ADHD mind focused on the scents on hand. You always do an awesome job either way. Love your videos💞
I love this format so much better!! The previous videos were great but by the time we got to the testing part I had forgotten what you initially though about the scent. This format was very informative hand held my attention. Thank you.
Wade, you do a great job on these reviews. I did find this format easier to follow. I found that I did not have to go back in the video to find the outcome for the specific scent(s) I was intrigued by. It made it way more organized for my information reception. I am trying to grow from a hobbyist to a small business without buying every fragrance that has a lovely description, and these reviews help so much.
Thank you for a very interesting review. And you are right, it was much better watching you making the candles with new scents and talking about them. ❤️
Loving this format so much better. Allows for focus on one scent at a time and for me I can follow easier. Your vids are always so informative and I’ve learned tons from you so thanks and keep up the good work 👍🌟
Thank you Wade. I’m ramping up for festivals for the first time 🤪. For me doing the testing this way was to fractionated for Me. Oh well change is always goin to happen 🥰🥳
I did love this format and the reference to other FOs that are similar so we could use as a point of reference, especially not being able to smell them with you lol I am not as familiar with FOs yet, but I am sure I will be one day. I also want to say thank you so much for your relaxed nature when it comes to color. I am scared of color, just trying to start out, but you make it seem not so stressful. I love your go with the flow approach to it, even tho I am also sure experience plays a major part in that too. In short, THANK YOU!
I was so excited for these! Not sure about the pear being in there but whatever. 😆 Thanks for the tip on Christmas Hearth! I haven’t smelled that one yet so I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for the video, I love it!!
I like this format of review, I think it’s more authentic to the true scents. This was an informative video although it was a difficult concentrating while reading your apron and thinking alter ego might pop out at any moment!😆😂🤣 Seriously I appreciate your videos, thank you!
I knew i would like the black cardamom when candle science released it. I am a cardamom fan and still insearch for a great green cardamom fo. Thank you for the indepth review.
Hello Wade Thomas I love this format better!!! I feel like I am in class. You are the teacherr and you are explaining everything you are doing so that I smell what you smell!!! Love it!!! I have I think 5 out of 7 of the new scents. I will have to definitely test them this weekend. I am a blender so it will be interesting to see what I will come up with for fall/winter line. I am not a big fall/winter scent person just because I too enjoy the spring and summer acenta the best!!! Thank you for these tutorials because I am learning alot. Which stirrer is better: wooden or plastic spoon?
Thanks Tamara. So happy you are enjoying the videos and this format. :) As far as plastic or wooden. It's your choice. Just make sure the wooden is lhe kind you'd make for baking (sealed) so it isn't porous.
Thanks! For testing hot throw, just a couple burns is fine. But I do full tests for sure before I decide on a sick or rollout as a finished product. :)
Thank you for your valuable content. I do like this format. Great video. I went to the link for the wick holders but didn't see Black Tie Barn. Is yours custom or am I overlooking your company?
So what's your recommendation with first starting out, in regards to testing candles? In this video and another you mentioned that you do the tester candles with a baseline wax and container, but if that's not the wax you use for the candles you sell, how does it help? Hopefully that question clearly conveys what I'm trying to ask
Good day. How are u. ? First I want to say thanks for the videos because I’m giving candle making another try thanks to your videos. I have a couple questions hope u can help me plz. I’m testing using the same 9oz jar and candle science libby straight sided jar. Diameter 3.0 and height 3.5. I’m thinking about getting pro blend 600 and igi6000. I will be purchasing and trying the same wicks u use for the 9oz jar. I can u suggest a wick for the libby jar. Thanks. What is the best wick for pro blend 600 and igi6006.
Giving points in 0.5 increments in 5 stars system is no different than giving single points in 10 stars system, its almost the same difference between a 3 or 3.5 out of 5 and a 6 or 7 out of 10. Just saying so cuz you said you simplified your grading system to be more solid on values yet you are almost between 3s and 3.5s :) I love your vibe, and your videos, Love from Greece!
Thank you. Yah i understand. I didn't intend on using any. 5s. Just worked out that way. But either way, it's still is easier for me to conceptualize on 5 point scale, for me anyway. I didn't mean one was right and the other was wrong. Just what I preferred is all
I loved the format btw. I just poured all of these testers while I watched your video. I'm excited to smell them for myself. I agree that Christmas Heart is an amazing scent!
very nice video.....in my attempts to continue better understanding wicking, would the premier work in the mason jars and the eco in the straight sided jar, why or why not. I know with wicking every choice has a reason, im just hoping to better understand those reasons hahah.....id also love to know what diameter these jars are and what size area you are testing them in so i can get a sense of the strength of HT to the overall size of the room your in (ie if you in a bathroom or small office then i know they are really weak or maybe to strong for that small of space but if your in the living room or the basement then i know that maybe theyd work well in a slightly smaller space and that the strong ones are good at filling a room and shouldnt be used in a tight space like bathroom)
Hi I’m always watching your videos very educating about making candles. I’m working make candles from New York. And noticed how expensive are the essential oils and that popular website from most ppl buy the essential oils are out New York very expensive delivery as well. Can I used fragrance oil to make candles ??? Thank you so much for your time. 👍🙏
Wade, just curious do you use a certain wax for testing purposes only, and another for your candles. You mentioned Problend 600. If this is a great wax, any recommendations on which company to purchase from? TY
Hey Katie. I make candles for several companies and different ones for other reasons as well. As someone who also likes to help other candle makers, I tend to use a variety of materials. So I use many. I just often test with problend600 because it's easy to use and it's pretty average across the board which makes it a good baseline for testing. Your can get it from The Flaming Candle
Thank you for your reply. I don’t want to know all your secrets for your candles as I know their yours, however, do you suggest a good candle soy wax to start playing around with. I have 444 and 464, but have heard horror stories. Thank you, Katie F
@@katiefrederick4136 If you are looking for a true 100% soy, then no not really. At least one I would feel confident in recommending. They just have so any issues and consistency problems. However, the majority of "soy" waxes arent just pure soy. most have a tiny amount of food grade paraffin or other additives for example. These perform much better. Soy 10 for example. Also Ceda Serica or EC-26 is good too
Wade, thank you. I guess I did know there were no 100% soy, my text wasn’t worded correctly. Maybe you know, but I’ve purchased candles from a local store chain, the brand is “Sand and Fog”, I really like the texture of the wax, would you know possibly what different wax would be combined? If not, it’s ok. I’m really getting to the point of doing my own for personal use as with everything nowadays I’ve noticed a significant price increase. Have a great day.
@@katiefrederick4136 Well, let me clarify. I didn't mean there are NO 100% soys. The GW 464 that you mentioned, is a 100% soy. But its definitely has its drawbacks. So most use some sort of soy blend. Its entirely up to you. I will look into Sand and Fog. Never heard of it. They likely don't reveal their wax type, but I can check
I wish i could get those wick setters but the company don't make them for the jars I use. I may reach out to them personally and see if they can make them for me since I need multiple sizes. 🙂
Almost everywhere else I read everyone says use a max of 6% fragrance... I know it depends on the kind of wax, to a degree. What does an Overscented candle look and perform like? Seeping?
The max on most waxes is definitely higher han 6%. Paraffin base waxes hover around 3-6% but those are uncommon these days as most are made with blends and additives. The majority of waxes these days hold anywhere up to 10%, many even more than that. I personally don't use higher load than thst as it introduces wicking issues and just becomes unnecessarily expensive. Lol Most places suggest starting with 6% because if using quality oils and a good scent throwing wax, 6% is often plenty. Plus you can incrementally add more to test if you want. But I'd say most use around 8-10^ these days
Yah different suppliers sell different sizes. I just used 730 as an example to start with. Wouldn't necessarily be the right size for every fragrance. 725 or 735 would work for most as well
