Excellent video. Back in the mid 1980s I owned a Neapolitan Mastiff. Both his parents were imports from Italy. He was a wonderful dog with many of the ancient instincts of the Molosus. I was raised with Newfoundlands when I was a kid. So I thought I had a good understanding of big breeds. But my Neo was a totally different experience. He was very sensitive and dependent on me. In turn he would protect me ferociously against anyone who I wouldn't acknowledge as a friend. He was a big commitment to train and it took me awhile to get it right. But he was my very best friend and wanted to be with me every minute of the day. I always took him on long walks and let him know who my friends were. He was a true friend and guardian. And I really miss him.

I wish I had known all this either before or at the time I fostered and then adopted a 16-month-old Rottie/Cane Corso saved from a kill shelter in Northern New Mexico. She is a big gentle giant who loves me with her whole big heart. She is also stubborn, willful and not easy to train. I fell in love with her not really knowing what she was. Unfortunately, I had recently been in 2 bad car crashes, (I was in my 60's, at the time) and when we started leash training, I found out I was too damaged to be strong enough to handle her. It seemed she had grown up in some kind of family, completely untrained, never been on a leash for a walk and then dumped in a kill shelter. I tried dog school a couple times and admitted defeat, not because she couldn't be trained, but because my physical state was so bad, she was too strong for me. I can't allow myself to be hurt any more than I am. I have had her 9 years so she is 10. She sleeps with me when she wants, loves my husband, is a little iffy with the smaller dog and no one comes in the yard when she is out. She is a mature 130 lbs. and very healthy. She is a big lazy girl who is a great companion and house dog. I don't fool myself about her capabilities, however. I am very careful when the rare other person comes to the house. She likes a couple of my women friends and is very affectionate with them, men not so much. If a tv guy or plumber comes, we go in our room with the door closed. Early on we had a dog fight when we had other foster dogs. She did not start it, but she ended it and the foster dog went to the dog hospital and to a new foster home. No more foster dogs. Maybe the rottweiler half mellowed her a bit, but she is a powerful girl. Looking back, even if had known, I would have saved her anyway. She loves me so much it is almost scary, and she guards me like I am the Queen of Spain or something. She is a once in a lifetime dog, at least for me. At my age, any future rescue dogs will be seniors. I wish it could have been different. I wish I would have gotten her before the car wrecks. She really is a magnificent friend, and she has been like no other dog in my life. Loved the video.

My corso is 13 years old and I have to admit the beginning through adolescents was very hard. Like, EXTREMELY hard! We even lost our mail/post service for a hole year because the carriers didn't want to come to our door. However, if you can stick it out and learn how to properly train your corso, I promise you will NEVER find a more loyal and loving best friend. I will never own another breed again! He's our families protecter, my kids playmate, and the only reason I survived my husband being away for a year! I love him like family!!! 💙

Lost my baby last year....you got it right! I probably will never have any other breed...Best breed ever.
@shakoiatenhawithacrossjaco9051
I agree with this 100%. I knew he’d be a big dog meaning I’d have to be really strict in training, but MAN I wasn’t expecting it to be that hard while he was young. He had such a hard head, and would just do what he wanted sometimes. After a while he’s become such a well tempered dog, the kids (and our chickens) love him, and he’s always by my side or with his head between my legs. He’s a cane corso/French mastiff mix and their breed are a gift to this world. He’s an old man now going on 9 years old, so he isnt the hyper ball of energy he once was, but he still gets the energy to run to the door when I get home.

@@larrylapper586 I am in no way a professional. A lot of what I learned was from trial and error. When my husband and I realized what we were dealing with, an extremely strong and potentially aggressive dog, we decided to dedicate a lot of time and consistency to training him. To answer your question, yes we did use his kennel for "time out" situations it seemed to be effective. We also used a lot of positive reinforcements. To this day my dog has no issues with his kennel and willingly enters. He also chooses to go in his kennel when he wants his space. Most important of all we were consistent. We also did a lot of work to socialize him. The best advice I can give is do your research. If you're considering a strong working breed like a corso. Make sure you have the time and energy they need to be loving family dogs. If you do, I promise they will be the best companion you will ever have!

On point. Beautiful breed. Very stubborn, sensitive breed. Fearless , not for inexperience owners at all. I owned a rottweiler prior and this breed is double the size. You do not need to train this breed to guard. After 7 months he is shaping up to be a solid family member and guardian. They need to work, my boy Ryker walks along side my stroller.(we do free range bush hikes). They are made for pulling carts and working. Even tho he isnt pulling the stroller its his favorite thing to walk beside me/son , while keeping watch. He is the most gentle with my 2 year old son.

My cane corso turns 1 year in a week. He is the sweetest boy. It wasn't hard to train him. For me all the stuff people say is silly. His dad and brother are champions and he's 100 percent cane corso. They do drool, they fart alot and when they want to play getting him to stop wanting to play bite or jump down has been challenging. Other that that especially when we leave He listens so well. Especially outside. They dont like being out of your eyesight at all, He is a big baby and besides a deer or something running and his instincts kicking in. He is easy though. He's 131 pounds now with some more to grow.

Love the breed. Best dog I've ever owned. Not even close. They're calm, but constantly on patrol, and they absolutely love and protect children. That being said.. Cane Corsi is the proper plural form of the breed, not 'Cane Corsos.' And he's absolutely correct about the early life development with holding grudges. My 1.5 year old pup was attacked at a dogpark by a white pitbull, and to this day my 10 year old Cane Corso will not be around a white dog without trying to kill it.

Just got a corso two weeks ago .. I’ve had german shepherds, huskies, staffies.. some other dogs that could be considered “intense” breeds and all very intelligent… after only two weeks i have to admit that this puppy is different… something other. I can definitely say that i agree with the point that this breed is NOT for first time dog owners. I will also admit that i should have maybe picked a breed that is between the german shepherd and corso as you would be surprised at how much more strong minded the corso is. She comes to work with me daily and gets to meet new people every day. Puppy class with someone experienced with guardian breeds starts next week 😎

Honey is six months. I walk all of them together and they all get along. Dogs are like children. Teach and train them well. Queen is also a good teacher. I can’t stress enough that they need a-lot of stimulation training and confident owners that have researched the history of their function DNA and characteristics. Do understand they have their own body language and identity wired into them they can not be man handled or forced they are intuitive and intelligent and need their human. Their minds are by design strong and genetic.. they aren’t labs and time consuming they are higher maintenance with prey drive animals. You HAVE to put the work in! My grandfather had six Caucasian Ovcharkas at the same time. He was a shepard with over 400 sheep and his dogs protected the sheep out in the fields from wolves and foxes. I would say these dogs are the most fearless of any breed. They will fight to the death to protect the sheep and their owners. Many times my grandfather would have to bath one of the dogs to get the blood off of him and it was always the blood of a fox or wolf. They would even take on a bear. I would say they are the wolverenes of the dog family. My family bred these dogs for over 150 years back in Romania. Every few years they introduce a new dog from Georgia just to prevent inbreeding. The dogs are extremely independent, loyal and protective. They are never for the novice owner and need a lot of space. My grandfather's land is over 1000 acres and very remote. When he retired he bred the dogs and shepards as far as New Zealand would want to buy puppies because over the decades he had managed to produce puppies that were not prone to hip problems. A Cane Corso would be no match for the Ovcharkas. I was always scared of them when I went to visit him. The puppies were cute but the adults were massive and unpredictable. They could take out your arm or face in one bite. They got to know me but I was never 100% comfortable with them.

But now I’m up in age, I’m looking at a large breed dog because that’s all I had. But not a powerfully built strong dog like that so I’m looking at something along the lines of an Airdale Terrier. I had Queen Tugra of Honey first as a puppy the after about 4 or 5 yrs. I adopted my 3 Grandsons’ grandfather’s English Mastiff King Maverick about a year later because he could not handle Maverick. Maverick and Queen with the kids were protective of their unique pack. The kids love him and Queen. Both are so uniquely protective of the home, kids, property and the kids sleep on or with the dogs.

Thank you so much for this video! I've been looking into various breeds of dogs for a while now to decide which puppy will fit my needs. (I need a property guardian dog). I have fallen in love with the Cane Corso however after watching this video I believe I am not in a position to set up this dog breed for success as I need a dog that is ok with staying outside all night. I believe I will do more research into the Kangal dog for now. Maybe in the future I can consider a Cane Corso as a pet/house dog but right now I would be setting this dog up for failure and behavior issues.

You must have a fence at least 8 feet tall. My female Cane Corso can jump over a 6 foot fence with zero running start. She can literally leap a 6 foot high fence from a still position without touching the fence. Incredible how agile and athletic these dogs are. If you train them right they are very gentle. Mine is 7 months now and a total sweet heart. But I’ve had to heavily socialize her spending several hours a day with her. If you think your gonna feed it once a day and just let it out 3 times a day this dog will destroy you. These dogs have tons of anxiety

How about a 6 foot tall large kennel with a roof like a tarp etc. Safe for the dog! Gives him or her shelter from sun and weather. It also keeps your dog safer and any visitors safe as well. I am not condoning kennels all day for your dog just for outside time when you are not training or exercising time spent with your dogs. Just a suggestion.

I have a question I may be getting a Cane Corso puppy in July and was wondering if anyone has any experience with how they are with cats I have three cats that I love dearly. I have owned pitbulls and American bulldogs all of my life so I am not intimidated by larger breeds and training them. That being said I don't want him/her to Maul one of my cats to death. I have always had cats and dogs together and do know how to introduce them when the puppy is very young. But just curious about the Cane Corso. Any advice would be appreciated Thank you

THANK YOU for this most informative video. It was most insightful as after watching it I realized I won't be the right fit for Cane Corso, as I don't exactly personify the 'Calm consistent leader' that the breed requires throughout its life. That said, I would indeed be able to spend a lot of time with this special breed, alas, I won't be able to provide the amount of exercise and activity that they need. I will now shift my research to the English Mastiff 🙂. Thank you again.

Came as I am a new Rott owner. Looking for information and agree with this gentleman. My training of my dogs(5 little 10 pound chihuahuas) is far different from the large breed Rott. Big concern is her protective behavior as I have not seen that side yet. The Rott being a 50 pound 4 month old baby galloping and leaping through the house has been entertaining at best. Raising voice or taping on the hip or head lightly only encourages bad behavior lol. I have never owned such a smart dog and now I am interested in a Bane Corso. Keeping nails trimmed and wearing long sleeves is now a normal for me and my Rott. I do have the opportunity to spend all my time with my Layla, and have found everything he has said about the Cane Corso applies to my Rott.

Glad to see you with the Twelve Titans together. But even though They are 100% Professional, Serious, and have Wonderful Breeding Stock not ALL the Perspective Corso Owners are qualified to own a Dynamic Dog. Unfortunately the Corso has gone the way of so many “IN” dogs and EVERYONE wants one. Because of the initial costs, and the monetary gains in breeding them, “Backyard Breeders” have ruined the Temperament and slowly the Breed. Good video.

That said, adult adopted dog did insist on taking up most of the bed at first, then resigning to be on the end of the bed. Then when I bought her her own couch she would growl in her sleep as I approached for a glass of water ( this did only last for a month, and I woke her up to let her know it was me). But seriously lovely loyal affectionate dog. But to get then off the bed you have to push with both legs😂

Okay, hear me out, so I have thought about getting a dog for the longest, I started researching and I went to a shelter. This dog came up to me, after a biiig stretch, she was sleeping, turns out she is a cane corso. The guy at the shelter explained to me that she needed a lot of care, special food, medicine, and attention. She was fitting everything I could give to her. I have a big house with a big garden, plenty of space to run and smell things. My house is mainly tails, so I had no problem with her being inside for a couple months. Let me tell you, I have owned a dog before. I have never in my life saw a dog so smart, the fastest learner, the biggest cuddle bug. She is with me for a week now, she is 2 months old rn. She already knows how to sit, lay down, catch, bring, waiting for me to say Yes before eating something. She waits at the door when she wants to get out to wee. I socialize her as much as I can, but she doesn't have the 2 vaccines yet, so I can't meet her with other dogs. Keep in mind, I work from home, and I'm home most of the time, so she has the attention she needs, she is mostly with me, but she loves attention from other people, she is... my heart. I also have finances to buy her the best food. I can provide for her. I'm not telling this to brag. I just say that you need to be financially ready for the bills with this breed.

I wish more people would listen to you. Even a small dog can cause damage. You have to know what you are doing, and you should know how to “read” your animal. Too many people do not purchase their dogs for the right reason. They are not a social symbol nor are they an animal to take lightly. I love Cane Corso and I have had decades of working with , training, showing, and understanding animal behaviour. I am close to retirement and I am waiting until I am retired to get my pup when he will have my full attention to raise him in a good environment with lots of socializing and training. Hopefully he will be of show quality as well. I would like to get back in the ring. Most dogs I have worked with have been large breed dogs . I have owned Great Pyrenees, trained Shepard’s Rotties , English Mastiffs, Labs, Setters, among other breeds. Yet I do not take owning a Corso lightly. I will ask questions and seek advice as I raise and train. Not because I am not sure what to do, but having and listening to the advice of top trainers and breeders of the magnificent breed can certainly be beneficial. Capable yes, but I will not be chalky or stupid! I have in the past worked with and was mentored by one of the Greatest dog trainers of all times.when it comes to dogs, I didn’t get to where I am by being silent, but by asking questions following rules and paying very close attention to the dog I was working with. I truly hope that your words get through to those who believe they know everything and refuse to take such wise advice. I have a a solid 50 plus years working with dogs and I am not embarrassed to ask questions. Even if I already know the answer it never hurts to confirm that knowledge or even discover a new way. Thank you for caring enough to share

Hello Will, I would absolutely love to get a Corso. Where I'm hitting a snag, or doubting if I should get one, is not because I am inexperienced. I personally have a lot of experience with extremely powerful guarding breeds. Where I hit a snag is, my fiance is not experienced with large powerful breeds. I worried that if I get one, we could end up in a disastrous situation, if I am not present to handle the dog when it is in a guarding situation. The second dilemma, I find myself in, is that we live in a gated community where houses are extremely close together, thus providing us with very little room for the dog to roam or Patrol its territory. I personally Love, and Desire the fact that Corso's or so great at protecting their territory and family. However, as previously stated I am not 100% certain that my fiance could handle such a large powerful dog. On the upside, I do not plan on getting a Corso for at least 10 years. I feel like my fiance needs a lot more experience with these large powerful guarding breeds before I even attempt to bring one into our home. Where should I go from here?

As I am a Cane Corso owner, I was going to rip you a new one in the comments. But I actually agree with your video. My Corso is a gentle giant at 140lbs. He's never chewed on anything other than my phone charger. He knew what he did so i didn't even have to punish him. I know I'll sound crazy for saying this but talk to your Corso daily. The Corso is very intelligent, mine knows over 15 commands. He's a family dog that stays inside but guards the house and me during our daily walks. Once he barks, he puts fear in every dog and human . So praise him and let your dog know that whether it's alright or not. My Corso is like your Labrador during the day but at night, he turns into the ultimate guard dog. He does everything I've told him to and trained him to do. I do suggest in the next video, to invest in Beware of Dog signs and that most house insurance companies will not cover your home with this breed. Idk why but mine has never torn up anything other than a bag of Krystals at 4 months old. Lol Over all a great video, I do suggest having a Corso in the video would help people watch the entire video though

Insurance companies worry about liability. If a breed is CAPABLE of doing damage is all that matters, and has nothing to do with if they are LIKELY to. And they ignore the fact that they deter burglaries and vandalism which are the most expensive claims due to the frequency of filings

The upside is that you pronounce "cane" the proper way, unlike so damned many who think they are walking sticks! If a person can handle a miniature pinscher brat, that person can easily train a cane corso. You do give excellent advice, as too many trashy people want a "killer" dog to compensate for being weak losers, and they usually don't have anything to sue for.

Don't want to? Ok, its ok baby" When I moved to try to help the owner lift him onto the table but no... Dog came whipping around snarling at me... I am so fu**ing angry right now!! Will gives great advice, but what really needs to said is corsos are loving family members and protective plus aggressive dogs as well, but each corso will be different in levels of aggressiveness. In other words you might get a corso that is less aggressive and your breeder will be able to help you choose a puppy to suit you. I am not disrespecting Will, but even though there are dogs of certain breeds that are aggressive there also those that arent as aggressive. I have a chow chow that is aggressive, but my mom had one that was a sweet heart. My uncle has owned boxers and his was aggressive but my friends boxer is a big ham. My other friends owned Dobermans that lived behind a 6 foot privacy fence and an older lady friend owned a Doberman and he was a friendly loving dog so it depends totally on how you raise and train them, but it also depends on the dog. Like people each dog is different. Example: some people have road rage others don't. I think its important to train, but it is also important to know the dog you choose whatever breed you choose. Spending a lot of time learning your dogs personality is important. And yes I highly recommend Will's training videos. I am getting my corso in April. Champion bloodline from Romania and already In ordering his training manuals. I am also interested in his raw dog food regiment. I hear raw is better.

Thank you for the information. I was unaware that it is an Italian breed. My youngest daughter & her little 7 year old daughter now own 2 black cane Corso dogs. Lucy is about 6 months old & Rick is 8 weeks old. I am concerned as to the strength of the breed around my youngest daughter & granddaughter. She made the decision & choice. I pray 🙏 regularly for their safety. Perhaps that influenced her decision. Lucy JUST started her first training session. They will be joining her in a few weeks to learn what they must on commands & such. (They live so far away I rarely get to see them, & I do not travel at all. Frankly I would be afraid to be around their dogs. As I am a Kat-Mama.)

You are Alpha and you train. Mine walks without a leash, knows to stop at the intersection and wait for me to say go, comes at the hand signal, sits also. I talk to her in plain English and she understands. Potty training was easy, give paw when asked, gets in tub herself when I get her towels and shampoo. She automatically knows. Teach and show the words calmly. I have never taken my Spitz, two Samoyeds, German Shepard’s, poodles, two Chinese Cresteds, Cane Corso nor the huge uncivilized English Mastiff to a trainer. I trained every dog I have ever had and now I run a Doggie Daycare. They all have and do love me because I talk to them. I do not spend time on my phone texting unless they are sleep. People need to take the time to enjoy their kids, family, love the beauty around and smell nature and love dogs. Cats and other pets are included. Dogs are good companions. Get sick and have a dog and they will remain loyal and protect like they are Alpha. 61 and lived with a dog(s) since grade school.

I am a happy owner of a beautiful Kane Corso. He is a big, 150 pounds, dog and loves all the family, though he has his favorites. Before him I had a beautiful pit bull. She was just 19 kilos and became a national champion at 10 months. She remained champion untill I have got tired of dog shows. I can tell you that 150 pounds Cane Corso is far easier to train than 19 kilos pit bull. There was something very intimidating about her, as a giant Cane Corso attructs people to kiss and play with him. Pitt bull accepted me as an alfa, but didn't have much respect for anybody else. In the past I had a german sheppard, so have experience with big dogs. Cane Corso is a fantastic dog even if it is your first dog. Just love the dog and learn how to look after him/her. The dog will give everything it can back.

Temperment goes a long way, but even at that, an individual's personal courage to be the pack leader to lead such a large dog is what the videos seem to emphasized. If your're timid, the 120-lb dog thinks it "has to be master." Maybe you are a good pack leader :)

Kinda? Just don't if it's going to be your first dog. Or even your 20th if you doub your own leadership. You better be good at it before you get a Corso. And if you're good at it and have a Corso like I do. Then they are a dream. Best breed ever in my opinion.
