So my gf has a 80lb 1 year old corso/great dane mix female. It has the build of a corso and the snout of a dane. There's a few problems she's having because, according to her, she wasn't able to train the dog adequately because of her work schedule, so now the dog is wild and full of puppy-like energy and she lives with her elderly parents who can't even handle it enough to take it outside to pee, plus she's paranoid of it around her 5 year old autistic son. They say to give them a comfy bed but she tears up literally anything she can get her paws on. We've gotten her 2 big beds, tried blankets and pillows and she destroys all of it, so she's lays on the plastic lining of the kennel. She can't let her run around the house because, for one, she tears everything up, and also because of her elderly parents, and if we leave her outside for an extended period of time, she starts to wreck everything. I hate to see it but she sits in a cage all day and whines and howls so loud it's almost unbearable. We're hopefully moving into a home that has close to an acre of land so that might help but what can we do in the meantime with not much time to train because of our conflicting work schedules?

I got my cane when she was 3 months old. The first night she went into her crate pretty easy. But when everyone went to bed and the light were off she started crying. She was next to my blue nose pit that kinda yelled at her it was pretty funny. I stayed up next to her with the lights off til really late reassuring her she was ok. That was all it took she is now 10 months old will go straight to her box from that night sleep all night long. They are very smart dogs. Doesn't take much to teach them.

Thanks for the video this really helped to educate me on this topic. I have a 6 month old cane corso and my mother usually babies her so she hasn’t been crate trained since the time we brought her home. I put her in the crate last night and I slept on the couch and she cried a bit but overall she didn’t do too bad. Thanks for the tips!!

Thank you for starting this channel, Will! Looking forward to the new content. Question, I watched your crate training guide video on the Fenrir Show channel. You mentioned creating a positive crate association. We’d like to take the more hard line approach on night one and have our pup sleep in the living room. But we’re worried if we do that and close the crate door on night one, we’ll create a negative association w the crate. So for night one with the pup, we shouldn’t close the door to the crate, but instead keep the door open, and use a pen enclosure around the crate so there’s a safe place in the living room and crate door is open. Would that be okay? To help w separation during the day, we want to follow your guidance on working slowly to build up time w pup in crate w the door closed. - many thanks!

Thanks for the video, it took us 2 nights to get her settled. We still have the odd accident over night and shes still very excited when we let her out in morning but does try to sit but shes only just 12 weeks so i know she'll get it and we started with a good foundation to build on. Although she does like smooth radio to go to sleep 🎶

Just found your channels (thanks, @Jason Coley!). Thank you for concentrating on this breed. Our CC is 5mo & we used the 2nd less gentle approach & he stopped crying after 2 nights. I would get up 2x each night the first week or two, then once a night, until he eventually slept through the night. This took several weeks and a lot of discipline on my part, but it was well worth it!

Love your videos so far you really break everything down! Girlfriend surprised me with a 7 week old cane last week(I think was alittle young) but wow what a great pup. I know nothing of the breed and she only knew what she was told and read. He is stubborn ass all hell but so smart we have taught him to sit on command within 2 days and sleeps through the night already on the bed in one night. Again thanks for the channel and look forward to more videos on how to deal with his behavior on walks and how break him of chewing on everything and everyone haha

Thank you, Will. Always watch your videos and had to come back to this one. My 14-week corso has been crate trained and no whining or barking at all even when first getting home. Recently, I had his ears cropped, which required an overnight stay at the vet. Since returning home, it's like ground zero. From whining, barking, and even using the bathroom in the crate. How should I proceed from here?

We just got a Cane Corso puppy who will be 7 weeks tomorrow so kind of young. But we are doing the tough love approach with her. My question is do we need to wake up to let her out to go to the bathroom during the night? She has been peeing and pooping in her crate and I am not sure if that is a good thing? I know she will be able to hold it eventually but she is pretty young so didn't know if we needed to take her out a couple times at night? Thanks

I'm always spouting out with comments that usually get buried, but I wanted to point out that when the puppy needs to use the toilet, it will whine/cry. If the puppy has been quiet in the crate and at 2am starts to cry, it probably does need to go out to relieve itself. Don't ignore those cries, but only make a fuss/pay attention to the puppy after it's done it's business. (Don't get the puppy too amped up or you'll never get back to sleep!)

Hello, i was just wondering if Cane corsos learn to like praise of other people or if their dominance kinda doesnt let other people stroke them as ive got a very dominant american bulldog and she doesnt really like fuss on her walks she much prefers to not be bothered and to walk its quite embarassing sometimes when i meet my friends staff x cause hes all happy to see me then my ambull doenst want any attention from my friend. i know they are two different breeds and have different traits but i just wandered as i met a puppy corso recently and he didnt want fuss form me either but the women wanted to socialise him yet he wasnt interested just wondering if u can get them interested or if its best to not let them be too interested in people?

Our 11 week cane corso puppy....we are trying the crate sleeping... we have him in the kitchen and he cries so terribly.... I would say that we are doing the tough love approach....he cries so long... he will calm down then go right back to crying.... he's so mad he had pooped and peed in the cage during the night. We don't go down to check on him until the morning. Is this 1. Giving him anxiety 2. Making him afraid of the cage.

When we got our puppy Corso we would take her out 3 times a night for the first week, with her bedtime being about 830pm, (11:00pm/2:00am and at 6:00am) by 6am she would already be up and active for the day... We would wake her even if she didn't cry to take her out at those times. It's a bit like clockwork but worth it. After about a week we would extend the times to 2x's a night then 1 and now our Corso can sleep the night til the morning. Be sure when you take it out you make sure it's strictly restroom time and back to it's sleeping area(we did not use puppy pads to train her at all). Also her meal cutoff time was about an hour before bedtime. Our pup learned great this way and a lot faster than we thought it would take. Hope this helps :)
@willathertoncanecorsoshow7530
@willathertoncanecorsoshow7530 4 года назад
I think it's great, just timing and how you do it is important, the best approach is to wake yourself up and take the dog before they wake up and need the toilette and start to cry. I don't overly suggest that as people aren't often disciplined enough to do it, but is definitely the best approach

We're not supposed to let them out when they cry. But in the morning, when you wake up and your puppy hears you, he will, probably, start crying again to get your attention, to get released. You should wait, but it's toilet time for puppy... So it seems you need to get him out even while crying?
@xandrathetibetanmastiff1779
@xandrathetibetanmastiff1779 4 года назад
My suggestion is to take him right out before you do anything else, before the puppy has a chance to start up the crying. The puppy is going to cry when it has to 'go' also, (and you want the puppy to tell you it has to go). You just need to determine when it's a 'I gotta GO' whine and a 'I just want to go out and play/be with you'. The puppy will learn the difference when you don't play or reward for that behavior, it's just out to go and back in. Those first 3 months are killer.
