This all started when the scanner would no longer work. And, the copier would not start automatically. If I sent something from my PC to the copier to be copied, nothing would happen. I had to push the Start button to override the copier.
The yellow light by the triangle blinked 8 times. I looked up online to find that this meant the ink absorber was full. But I could not find anywhere how to access the ink absorber. So I decided to try and find out.
Here is the first video as I delve into the work of fixing a cheap $20 copier.
Here is the link to the follow up video: • Canon MG2520 service p...

Thank you for your video. I had to take my printer apart because it kept jamming. There were ball point pens stuck in there. We hadn’t noticed the leads came off and the printer didn’t turn on. We took it apart again and connected the leads and it finally turned on. It wouldn’t have been possible without your video. You saved us from buying a new printer. Thank you!

Got the filter out, dried it out completely; looked if over. I think I can safely say it will not absorb anything again due to the poor quality of the material used. That being said, and no other replacement absorber on the market, I am forced to get another printer. And.....I did find another one just like it on eBay still in the box and purchased it. Cheap enough and free shipping. As old as I am getting, there is a chance it will outlive me. It is beyond sad when companies have to resort to building junk with a plan to replace rather than build something to take pride in. Saying you own a Canon doesn't really mean much. I still thank you for the video. It felt great taking it apart and finding out what cheap component was failing to work.

Thank you, it worked! I changed it up a bit, used alcohol and q tips/cotton balls to clean inside. Dropped the pad in alcohol then put it under the faucet until it ran clear. Used a blow dryer to speed dry it. I also used a 2" circumference flashlight to hold the back up while I put the connectors back with needle nosed pliers. I also sat the back side of the printer on a 3' tall box to jack it up at a slant. Still tedious, but it worked.

You are welcome. I hope you are successful with your machine. These copiers were never meant to be serviced so we have to figure these things out on our own. Feel free to post any intel you gain from your experiences.

I agree that planned obsolescence is bad, generally, but I just want to say that they engineered that absorber to be very generous in its absorbing ability considering the available space. Let's give them credit for that.

How do you reset the Ink Absorber counter after cleaning the ink well (error 1700)

I took the whole thing apart put it back together and the error still came up, as much as I tried I don’t think I can fix it, I’m definitely getting a new printer tomorrow morning 😔

Hey Selena, good to hear from you. Sorry to hear your printer would not work. Mine eventually failed as well. I was able to keep it going for a few more months. Unfortunately, all the printers will eventually fail. Nothing we can do about it. My computer was the best. Only cost me $20 and did an excellent job when it worked. But the printer manufacturers don't want their products to work forever. They want to sell us new ones. I purchased a Canon TR4520 which has worked well. The printer ink is horribly expensive. I wish you well with your next printer. Will

I took the printer apart but could not remove the ink absorber as one piece since it was falling apart into pieces when I tried to lift it out with tweezers so I cleaned up as much ink as I could that in that area with a paper towel. After I put it back together the printer did not start up again, Luckily I had a spare printer in the closet....

Thank you for sharing your experience. You did the best you could. Up until my printer stopped working it was great. It is unfortunate that Canon makes the printer to be a non-service item and a throw away once it stops working.

Is the printer set up to not function once that yellow light goes on?.. even after you clean the sponge? I see many in the comments who say they can't get the light to turn off. Would I have higher success if I cleaned it preemptively before it ever goes on in the first place? I've had the printer for quite a while. Thanks!

Hello, I cannot answer the yellow light question. But, yes, I would clean the sponge preemptively. That is an excellent idea.

@@Xplorer228 Apologies, but I do not know. I was able to keep my printer going but it eventually stopped working. I do not have it anymore and can't use it as reference to answer questions.

I discarded the complete pad as it was useless anyway. The printer had one " ink absorber full" message and then after pressing the Color button, the page printed and the message has not reappeared. Fingers crossed.

I got mine apart. Will probably have to use some duct tape before it is all over. However, I did get to the ink absorber, removed it, and washed it out in the sink. It looks a little worse for wear and is in the sun drying at this time. I can find no place at all to buy a replacement ink absorber pad, which I think is nonsense. The pad I took out and washed from mine was made of one-use-only material. I have my doubts whether it will work once dried and replaced. Why they didn't just make a sponge pad is beyond me. No wait........sorry. I guess that was the point..........buy a new machine. I will try to report back my progress. I really appreciate the video.

Glad the vid helped. Hope your repair goes well. Yes, repair parts are not sold as they machines are to be thrown away the first time they fail. Whick, is also ridiculous. If the ink pad was serviceable or made bigger, these printers would last for years.

Everything good, but what a bout to reset the printer in order to make it work again it is stuck and the only show is that the ink absorver is full

Thanks for the video, it's the only place I found the info. Got everything apart, then back together. Reconnecting the small power lead wasn't easy. I'm still getting the error code. Any tips on resetting?

What you show makes sense. Was it difficult putting back the two sensor wires on the left side? I hesitate opening mine not seeing how you went about plugging in the top left wires. Thanks
@Mercedes-Guru
@Mercedes-Guru 2 года назад
Hey Charlie, thanks for watching. It was not difficult to put back the wires. Remember, these machines are made for easy assembly during production. If your machine is not working, you cannot hurt it by taking it apart. It is held together by a few screws and then will snap apart. Of course, it may not be worth the effort to work on it, since machines are inexpensive. It is the ink that is expensive. Good luck.

A suggestion :) I just pulled and cleaned mine - it is possible to get to ink absorber without disconnecting those wires. just open the top like a piano and hold it open with some sort of a screwdriver.

How did you get the wires back in? I can't get them both back in to save my life
@Mercedes-Guru
@Mercedes-Guru 2 года назад
That was a bit tricky. It has been a while since I did this job but as I recall I had to get the top real close to the bottom. Then got the wires so close that they would hold themselves in place. I don't remember them clicking into place so that made it more challenging. The wires have in one place so long that they have taken a "set" and naturally want to stay like that. Use that to your advantage. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
