The stones and the steel balls a bit undersized so they are a little more unpredictable to aim sadly. But seriously. Shoot low. You’ll never know what hit them!

@dwmaddawgs Месяц назад
Someone told me that in Iraq. Never got into direct contact to find out though. They said that it would solve the problem with 5.56 not stopping the enemy because they couldn't walk away. It's not important to kill the enemy, only stop them from shooting at us. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Rember the squishy organs behind bones, the armour can rupture these from blunt force trauma and be more lethal then penetration.

when testing body armor, it's common to put a mass of clay behind the armor to measure the maximum amount of back face deformation. As you said, the force of the impact here would surely kill the poor victim. Clay would show how far the armor gets pushed into and through the wearer.

*FUN FACT: A cannon loaded with sharpened rebar will go right through a ballistic shield, and multiple armored agents stacked behind it...causing extensive hydrostatic wounding to flesh from the rebar ribs.* Testing has shown that common hallway 2x4 & gypsum board is sufficient to ricochet rebar back towards the center of the hallway. Dry rice makes for an effective "sabot" which guides the rebar straight down the cannon.

from the sponsored segment with the lifting table: "I could even put the cannon on it". Hmm, someone could make a "disappearing carriage" style mount to fire your cannon safely from inside a fortified position
@TheCannoneer
@TheCannoneer Месяц назад
Oh I like the way you think... That honestly sounds like something they should have had... Lower the guns out of danger while reloading and they pull it back up when in use. You could even hide them to look unarmed if needed.
@redramage
@redramage Месяц назад
@@TheCannoneer They did have those! Mostly for naval defense batteries, they were counterweighted and eventually hydraulically damped mounts that allowed the gun to be loaded in cover, then raised to fire with only a brief moment of vulnerability while the crew layed the gun. The recoil would swing the gun back down into cover.

Mine shoots 8lb bowling balls as its ammo but I think it is technically a mortar due to barrel length. I know it can move an f150 about 4 feet when it smacks it with a ball, also it has enough recoil to separate the bed from a newer f150 if your a dummy and try to shoot it out of the truck..... My insurance does not pay for that apparently which is strange because they covered the gold wing we launched via trebuchet.

Hey Jonathan. A couple of ideas for you... Chain shot, spider shot and bar shot fired at a mock up canvas and rope rigging on a ship, see if you can cut down a mast. Mount the barrel on a naval gun carriage to see the difference between that and your carriage. Try to sink a small boat on a lake. Try bouncing a cannon ball on the surface of the water. Unless you are standing behind a shield that fully covers the whole body with a good distance between you and the armor, it's best not to be shot at by anything from a firearm. There are people who will advertise their armor in vehicles or for the body who will play the guinea pig. There's always the chance for error. If you put enough powder charge without creating everpressurization in that barrel, you can sabot a hard enough round to penetrate any of the highest rated worn body armor on the market.

His rifle bearer double charged it. As in, thinking the gun was empty when it was in fact loaded, the guy loaded it a second time. He went to shoot an elephant and the gun didn't blow up, but it broke his shoulder and dropped him like a rock. His shot didn't do the job, so he was crippled and had an angry elephant after him. I don't remember they guys name, but the author of the book is Peter Hathaway Capstick. He has a lot of good books. Just to think though... a quarter of a pound of lead for a 4 bore... that's a projectile!

@@TheCannoneer i had a piece of scrap bronze about 9” long and 4” diameter. Solid round. I also had a job in my shop with .990” ball bearings coming out of pumps i rebuild. Drilled and reamed it and a hole for a cannon fuse. Sandbagged it and started with 100 then 200 then 300 grains of fff. It never blew up but would fly about 5 feet. I made a wooden carriage for it. Naval style with wheels. It does a backflip now. Gotta redo that. Its kinda like a civil war mortar rather than a cannon.

It's great to see the channel grow ! What do you use for a wad ontop of your powder when you shoot cannonballs ? I heard that dried polenta or paper towel worked well (and confirm that they work well in my musket) but I wonder how they would perform in a cannon.

It's hilarious that your mannequin has a crack. I started calling him Lieutenant Leggs. Looks really similar to Rick Sanchez when he isn't wearing pants too. Not as pale though. Great video. I'd like to see a sub-caliber munition fired out of that cannon. 3d-printed sabot with a simple steel bearing ball or hardened steel dart at its core. I could 3d-print the sabot, but don't have the equipment to make precise steel parts.
