Canon EOS R7 with the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens - it is super sharp!!!

Thank you, thank you!!! You know - out of ALL the lenses I have used - ALL - this has been the sharpest and most amazing lens I have had on a camera. I was really impressed with the images I got with it on the R7. I am going to go out with it again soon when the dragonflies are out again (have to rent it again), but it was amazing. 🙏🤗❤

@@JonnyPink65 I appreciate the response! Yea, I also have the 1/4 and 2x converters to use if I did. I think the perfect lens would be a 500 6.3. It would be a new version of the 400 5,6 but a tad longer and much cheaper than a F4. But I’ll take this now :)

The tech is AMAZING - not perfect and does not always work, but it is AMAZING. Light years ahead of DSLR. I am blown away by the derail myself!! 🤗🙏💖

I do plan on buying this lens later this year or at least for spring when the migrations happen. I like my Sigma 150-600 and it does everything I want it to do as far as dragonflies go. Not as sharp, but it works for me. This lens IS amazing for sure. Thank you!! 🙏💖🤗

H Verbeek!!! Thank you, thank you. I LOVE my R5 and have had a blast using so many lenses. The Sigma does what I want it too for me. My 500 F4 is an older EF and it is amazing, just heavy - that is why I have the gimbal for that. LOL. You know, even in cycling, different people have opinions about what gear is best or what name is on it.... of the name makes it better etc. I like what I like and I am just trying to put out as much information as I can and find what works for me. NO lens or camera is perfect. - even the RF 100-500. It missed shots all the time and would back or forward focus about as much as the Sigma. Ah well. I go out to have fun, and really enjoy sharing what makes me happy. If I get one or two great shots, them i am set. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 💖🙏🤗

Good evening and thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Bolsa Chica I have not been to believe it or not, but to Malibu Lagoon many times. I hit Sepulveda all the time because it is 20 minutes from my house and between the river, the lake and the homeless, there is just so much to see!! The 100-400 is a lens I had not even thought of.... and that is a great price. I rented the 100-500 because the Sigma does what I want it to in many ways. And you are correct - each has strengths and weaknesses. I plan on being out with a rented RF 100mm this weekend for a solid 4 days straight. I also LOVE my EF 70-200 on the R7. John here - if you see me out there, please come up and say hello!! That would be AWESOME. 🤗💖🙏

Yes it does due to the crop sensor. It works that way with any crop sensor body and full frame lens. Multiply the crop times the lens lens focal length. At 500mm you are shooting at 800mm and it is awesome. The other advantage to this set up is you still have a faster lens AND you still have the wonderful minimum focus distance - win win win!!! 🙏🤗💖

You know, this was a rented lens and I really enjoyed it. I change my settings all the time depending on the situation. And out of all the lenses I rented and what I own, that was the most impressive and sharp lens. It is truly an amazing set up. I can say that I usually have focus tracking on - it works really well. As far as tracking, I go between single point (my favorite) and a slightly wider area if shooting dragonflies or other things in flight. I change constantly. 🙏🤗❤

Hi Cody!!!! To anyone new to wildlife, the R7 is what I would recommend. It is an amazing camera that in my opinion using both Nikon and Canon, outperforms the Nikon Z9 hands down. When I am out with a crop lens, I usually keep it at the max reach and at the lowest aperture. The other advice I would give, or what works for me with all cameras, is keep the ISO low - do not let it jump way up. The Z9 and R5 are the only ones that I let go above ISO-1000. For me with the R7, ISO 800 is the max I will go. I don't like the images past that. I have a rental RF 100-500 coming in later this week and I am really looking forward to shoot that amazing lens again ( I still don't own it.....). For wildlife, the more reach you have, the better. Stand back if you need to zoom out. My 500 F4 is also amazing but it is heavy and it was expensive so not many will get that - the 100-500 or older 100-400 are better options. As far as lenses for macro - my favorite is the EF 100mm. Yes, EF. Out of all the lenses I have used, the ONLY RF lens I really like is the RF 100-500. Again, these are just my opinions based on my use. The other macro lens I really like is the Loawa 100mm 2x lens. It is super duper sharp!! 🙏🤗❤

Bill, thank you. Next time Ill wear NO shirt..... THAT would be scary! What I noticed is that the AF works differently with the SIgma and the Canon. The Canon lens is WAY sharper...... when it grabs focus. I was constantly using the focus ring to find my subject. I think for now, I am going to stick with the Sigma. Not the best lens in the world, but at the price, it works and does what I want it to do. At some point, I will pick this up or again rent it. I am really happy with the images I was able to get. Jeff, oddly enough, I just finished filming that today. For what I want and what I do, I am going to stick with the Sigma. The Canon is sharper and is amazing - but I am glad I rented the lens. I have my R7 set to tracking and I find that sometimes I have trouble getting the little things I want in focus as the camera wants to find something else. I got around that with my fingers constantly on the focus ring. The Sigma for ME, I found easier to get the little subject I want in focus. I have not downloaded all my photos or video yet ( I wanted to get to comments first). The other thing is that people talk about the Sigma "pulsing", but i got the same thing with the Canon lens.... AND if I shoot 20-30 shots in a burst for 2-3 seconds, how many shots am I going to pull to share? ONE - maybe two. So my answer for ME, is I am going to use my Sigma and enjoy it - it works for me. I am glad I rented the Canon lens. In the future if there is a Canon version two or if Sigma come out with an RF lens..... I hope that helps a bit! Thankyou Jeff!! 🤗💖🙏

@@jeffolson4731 Jeff _ I am going to stick with the Sigma as well. There IS a clarity difference between the two so if I were printing LARGE posters, i would use the Canon. And if you are curious, there are rentals for a week out there. Worked for me!! 🤗

Hi Heliezer Da Silva!! I have not used a Sony in a long time so I can not say. I WILL say that Sony does provide some really sharp images overall. 🙏🤗💖

Just drops right on there. It is their new CANON R mount system so it will work on any/all of the new cameras. The beauty of putting it on a crop sensor with their 1.6 crop is the 500mm becomes 800mm with no loss of light. It is the best lens I have used on the R7. My only recommendation with the R7 - all that information on a smaller chip - keep the ISO low or no hogherd than 1000. Your shots will be much cleaner. But yes it is compatible with the R7 right out of the box....... and it is AWESOME!! 🙏🤗❤

@@innerforce7395 The older lenses are awesome and just work!! My 500 F4 is much older - version one and it is stunning. A pro lens that is less than that lens is new, and work perfectly with my 1.4 tele. Heavy, but the photos are worth the struggle! 🤗❤

DryAssBiscuit - thank you for that pro tip!!!! When I turn pro, I will keep it in mind! In all seriousness, I was once asked that by a handler on tour and my reply at that time was - "if its good enough for Mick Jagger, its good enough for me". When I quite smoking 12+ years ago, that habit became constant and I am almost never without it in my mouth. Also, if you watch Dave Grohl, he always has gum too. I used to chew gum while performing because for me, it keep my vocal chords moist - it just worked for me.
