Literally, just bought this camera based on many hours of searching RU-vid. Its my first camera EVER (outside of my phone anyway) so I am SUPER EXCITED to get going!! Thanks for all of the fantastic content =)
Because of you I bought this camera for my youtube channel, and so far is has been amazing! It is really easy to use, and has amazing video quality. So thank you for the advice 👍🔥
Yeah cool but..... If you shoot your videos at 30fps with this camera and u are a small channel RU-vid will give you a shitty codec and your videos will not look good. Shoot at 50fps or higher and RU-vid will encode your videos with their higher quality Vp9 codec. You guys have failed to mention this is ALL your info videos. ✌️
Audio question if anyone can HELP PLEASE 🙏 i followed the instructions but when I import the footage the sound level is so low / quiet and if I raise it in the edit it distorts it slightly. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Omar, This video was super helpful for me; I have a Canon EOS M3 and couldn't figure out how to fix my audio. This tutorial totally helped me. Any chance you can go through some more steps on this camera (the M50), seems the settings are similar to my older version. I just shot my last video and the coloring was very orange, it drove me crazy! Is it my Iso? Idk. Thanks in advance! - Cooking with Shereen
Cooking with Shereen this sounds like it could be your white balance. I recommend manually setting your white balance to a look that you’re comfortable with or just using the auto white balance.
Vipop Coombs thank you for your reply. I may to seek a video on that. I’m a little dumb founded when I go into that setting. Cooking, I know. Video equip, not so much. Lol
Currently using my phone, just starting out and posted my first video! This has been so helpful, thank you think media:) Going to try to save for the M50, love these reviews, keep it up💪🏻
Great info ! I’m about to purchase a camera for my channel and easier the better. I’ve been burned my mics before so find a good one at a fair price is the next step. Cheap mic are a waste of time and money
I got a M50 in April after extensive research...(thanks think media!)...and recently got the 22mm pancake lens. I really love this camera and all it brings to the table. It's not perfect for everybody but it's perfect for me. I now plan to get the new prime lens Sigma makes for the Canon EF-M line and the lens adaptor.... Thanks to you guys I'm now really considering the Viltrox as well.
Hey Sean, so I dont have any cameras but I want to start a reaction channel but I want to start off with my phone and a tripod but I also want to add a good microphone no more than $50 for a smartphone (including Samsungs) Have any good mics that work with samsungs?
Thank you! I bought this camera on the Black Friday specials with Canon, and having you and Sean walk me through the settings saved so much time. I'm excited about leveling up in the next year here on youtube!
@@johnnykirkinnes7872 Hello thanks Johnny! The videos shot from Sept. 2019 onwards are using the M50. I only used a camera phone before that so there's really a huge difference. 😊
Hey Rea Ninja ok cool, thanks for your reply! I’m currently using an iPhone 7 but invested in Olloclip’s on the front and back which definitely improve things and also a ride micro mini to get that nice crisp audio. I’ve done a little filming lately with my hero 7 as it’s so robust and portable which is great while cycling. However, now, after watching this video and the other camera compare videos the M50 looks like a great next step. Did you find it easy to use right out of the box and are you good with cameras generally?
Saved this video in my watch later playlist. But for now I have a quick question: How do I keep the exposure from changing while I am filming? I film myself talking in front of the camera in my living room and when I go to edit the footage I notice that the exposure is consistently going from light to dark and vice versa.
WhatchaGot2Say on the M50 there is a dedication movie mode. Switch the camera into this mode and set all your settings. Shutter speed should be double the frame rate your shooting (24=50, 30=60, 60=120 ect.) then set your aperture and ISO. Now the exposure shouldn’t change. However if the lighting does change dramatically then you may appear over exposed or underexposed throughout the video.
In shutter priority mode the shutter speed changes, camera overrides the setting. There is no way you can shoot a video having constant shutter speed, unless you are in manual mode. Also, in manual mode, there is auto iso but there is no auto aperture, you have to set aperture and shutter speed to fixed value. It would be great if in manual mode we can put auto aperture, this would be the only way to shoot video with contant shutter speed. If somebody knows some tricks please let me know.
This is correct. It is a great video, but you can't use TV (Time Value, or Shutter Priority) in video mode. If you are in TV mode, and hit the red button, it will revert to auto video settings. There is unfortunately no way to have video in shutter priority mode on this (or indeed many/most) mirrorless cameras. Cheers, Paul.
Hi Thank you so much for the tips, I'm using the cannon M50 for my you tube channel. one major problem I have is after finishing my cooking video and I edit the video first, then while watching the edited video I record my voice, however when I import my voice for editing its always longer than my video. why? both are recorded at 29.97fps. and I'm not using external mic. Thanks for your time .
I'm pretty sure that I bought the right camera. 😛 Also accessories you guys recomend. 11-22 lense will be next. May I'm going too far away with this to be a beginner. Love you guys
You can't actually use "Tv" shutter priority in video on M50. It only works in photos. In video, you either go full auto, or full manual and stick with fixed shutter and aperture values with auto ISO for exposure compensation. Then you can try to fix aperture on the fly or something. But no, no fixed shutter priority mode on M50 in video.
FANTASTIC VIDEO!! I just got the M50 and I'm in love with it! It's my first camera and I'm getting used to it but this was very helpful so thank you very very much!!!
Thanks Omar. We are using the Cannon M50 for our videos and some pictures as well. It works great and even the sound quality is good. Great tips! Thank you
I'm using the G7X Mark II as of now to shoot my reaction videos and more, but have been looking for better quality camera once I begin vlogging and shooting more prank videos and challenges. I really appreciate and think the M50 is for me, because I'm really comfortable with Canon products. Thank you. 🙏
I've been using Canon 4000D to make content on RU-vid but OH MY GOD! it is awful but that's what I had budget for couple of years ago, however, no moreeeeeee from now on, I'm using my M50 mark 2 canon 😉
This was very helpful. I am currently using my old Samsung S7 edge and 1st edition iPad pro. I've been looking at the M50, but am hesitant because I don't know if it's the best camera for me. I spend HOURS+/Days editing, then more time finding space on my tablet to be able to upload. I just want to make the best choice and am overwhelmed.
Canon m50 mark ii all the way! Excited to get it soon and start putting out higher quality videos for the channel! Thank you Think Media for all the information you provide! Future dream camera is the Sony A7Siii... maybe in the next couple years!
I have it on autofocus, but when I vlog it doesn't adjust to the lighting situation .When I tried your suggestion using Shutter Priority it doesn't work at all. It's dark. Is there something I'm doing wrong? If so, I'll have to keep working on improving . I appreciate the help. Thanks for sharing . I want to love this camera, but I'm not getting good results. I use it 99% of the time for sit down videos and a little vlogging. I never use it for photos. I use a Nikon D750 for photos, but I digress.. Please help.
Thanks for this wonderful video! Indeed helpful as I am trying to look for a suitable vlogging camera. I am currently using GoPro 7 Black and Canon G7X to create content on my RU-vid channel.
I'm afraid that you can't shoot video in shutter priority mode in the M50. If you press the record button while in shutter priority mode, the camera will switch to auto mode for video and will change the shutter speed depending on conditions. You can check that by pressing the exposure lock button [*] to briefly to see the current video settings. Shooting video with fixed shutter speed requires full manual mode for video. Which is a bummer.
I think the cannon m50 for video. As for reasons, it has great duel pixal autofocus, a mic input, hot shoe, flip out screen, and so many more great features!
I recently bought this from Amazon and got it in mail a couple days ago. I plan to start a tech/gaming review RU-vid channel very soon. I'm till trying to figure out how to do video on it but so far I like the camera a lot
I changed my audio input 1 notch right of 0 and now it's too quiet, even when I jack it all the way up in Hitfilm. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using a Rode Video Mic Go by the way
Used my M 50 for livestream,of course I don’t know what I’m doing, question:do I just record with my and then use the same USB cords to connect to Rush, I prefer to edit? Thanks,Marlys
There’s lots of videos on RU-vid about setting, but there’s nothing showing beginners how to film a video and view it back. Yesterday I found a short video just to tap the camera out and there was seemingly no way to play it back in to see how it looks. On the camera itself, how do I do you a video I recorded?
First of all, all the think media team are incredible. You are always on point and iam forever your number one fan. Am using Rx 100 but a friend recommended me to use Canon M50 and now i can have a reason to buy this camera after watching ur video. Thanx
I hade this camera 10 days and I wanted to return it and try another camera. But Gus what I have made my 10 videos already following only this video. Cause it is all about from the start and end. Not time loosing started quick and finished quick. I have also learned the way that as an audience get interested me! Thanks
Is there any way to shoot in true manual mode for video? I always find that my ISO is changing automatically depending on the lighting no matter what. Can’t find a setting to turn this feature off either. Never had this problem with shutter speed or aperture.
I bought canon m50 week ago for improve my vlogs quality and think midea really helped me to decide about camera and the tips and trick showing for free really helpful and I'm trying follow these tricks to grow my channel .
I want this for my next canon. Right now I use the canon g7x mark ii..... not sure why people give a thumbs down smh...this is a review / tips I'm putting in my save for later 🙂 thanks
What is INFAMOUS about the Canon M50's pixel focus? That doesn't make any sense. Infamous in what way? Do you even KNOW what infamous means? Here's a hint: it's NOT the same as famous! USE a dictionary!
Since I found this camera online, I've wanted to buy it. The current price is about $700 down from $900, but I'm not sure if I should buy it now or wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday 😬
Ordered my m50 last night comes with kit lens 15-45mm. These videos are definitely gunna help get those videos and pictures I want. So far I’ve concluded I need speed booster adapter and then search for a good lens for zooming crystal clear shots. Suggestions??
Just got my M50 and am stoked that I have a virtual college course at my fingertips. I am an absolute noob who has never owned a camera besides my phone. I know, I know. Gotta start somewhere, right? At least I don't have any bad habits to unlearn! Thanks for all the info and training. Can't wait to start producing my own content. The right way!
Ok so I just go my M50 very recently. I had no idea that it's been out for quite some time already and I'm really surprised to see that it's still a viable device to use amongst other newer options. My question is.. is it good for videography purposes in general? Other work that's not vlogging?? Like.. shooting short story films or music videos and such? 🤔
Nice video, just bought the camera. I was trying to follow along with your tips; but, you go so fast, I was constantly hitting pause trying to watch the steps.
Seriously? You guys speed through the image stabilization so fast I've had to watch is 15 times and STILL can't see what you did. LOVE you guys but this one is a fail
I need help I just purchased this camera for a cruise trip. I have a 256 SD card. For some reason when I put it in movie mode. It will only film up to 2 minutes only before the camera says its full. I’m a newbie. What mistake am i making?
and what does it mean "the footage used is upscaled to 4k from the 1080 files"? if your able to shoot in 1080 then change it to 4k with no noticeable differnece then what's the point of shooting in 4k? or the camera even having the option to shoot in 4k? why not just shoot in 1080 then upscale to 4k? this also makes me think wouldn't it not matter if a camera doesn't have 4k cause you could just upscale to 4k afterward? As this video seems to be more for newer photographers or videographers I feel like it would be nice if you explained this stuff more cause it left me really confused
i bought that camera after watching your videos. I must say that it is the best purchase ever tbh. I just started RU-vid this year and it find this camera the best choice to start with.
I have a issue that’s been bothering me and my vlogs and that’s is recording with my canon m50 and rode videomicro. Let’s say I’m vlogging with the camera facing me, the audio is nice and crisp but then I point the camera away from me and I start talking and my voice in the audio is super low. I’m aware that the videomicro is a directional mic but how can I fix that or any suggestions?? Please 😫
I changed the audio settings to zero then up one like you said but when i playback the videos i recorded i cant hear anything. Is that normal and then when i transfer it to a computer it’ll sound fine?
Thank you, very helpful. if I have the camera in shutter priority on, lets say 1/60th shutter speed and I press record button, will it record the video at that specific shutter speed?
