The tele/wide rocker on the lens can be changed to manual focus and the main control dial also can be used. Once you have focus in vid. tap on the right on 4 way controller to lock it. I have ordered one to-day, have sx60 but like the 4K for better frame grabs to get better stills. Screen and viewfinder also better I also have several DSLRs and big lenses but sometimes its nice to be not so bogged down with heavy gear. Thanks for your thoughts.
Thank you so much Eric, this was exactly the sort of review I was hoping to find! I am not at all technically minded and all the professional chat is useless to me. I wanted another bridge camera (have a Lumix FZ150) to get a bigger zoom. As I'm not interested in doing videos of any fast-moving objects, the details you went into in your review made me realise I was looking at the right camera for me. Brilliant! Best wishes, Ingrid
I've bhad the 50 and then the 60 and now the 70 and one main issue I have with it is you can't do manual settings for video. They need to allow one's manual settings be applicable to video as well. Otherwise, all three have proven to be good cameras, especially manual photo modes and night shooting with long aperture to get stretched effects like car lights etc are super good. Catching lightening during a storm is also very good.
great review! Buying this camera based on this review. Was torn between it and the nikon 1000 but was unsure about the length. i’m not a serious photographer so a bridge camera fills my needs very well. Seems you actually are a reviewer with honest integrity too! subscribed to catch more of your content!
Bought this camera today, and think I'll like it much better than my Sony HX400, after it's len's motor froze up. Your review very practical to understand. Thank you.
After looking at a lot of reviews and comparisons, I just ordered the SX70. For the money, I think it will work well for my needs. Your review really did answer a lot of questions and was very helpful in my decision process. Thanks again! 👍
An excellent review. You covered the features I have interest in. You pointed out areas for improvement as well as areas where the camera is better than others. I subscribed to your channel because of this review.
all i want is a sx60HS with color accuracy of SX50hs and an easy way of manual focusing as with Nikon or as suggested by you (which is much better) , i do believe its a bad move to remove the hot shoe
Thank you - I'm unlikely to use many of the features of this camera but its just great for travelling! I haven't got much use out of it and its just fallen out of warranty and the screen cuts out at certain angle. Is this likely to be an expensive repair? Can you speak on attaching a uv filter to the hs70sx.
Eric question for you? In video the continuous auto focus is not as good as it could be. I would like to know does the auto focus follow and track with the 10fps burst rate for following birds for example? Or is it the same as the video?
I do not have the camera to confirm exactly but I doubt a camera of this price range would keep us that burst rate and focus follow perfectly. I think rate drops or there will be some misfocused shots
Hi: I want to buy this camera next week, but don't want to rely on the auto focus for wildlife because a one in a million shot can be lost with auto focus not working 100% of the time. I have 2 previous head injuries and want to change the settings to Manual focus and use the rotating dial on top of the camera to manually focus. Can I do that? Thank you for answering my question when you can. Anyone else is welcome to offer me advice too.
Hello, I am sorry but I tested the video a few years ago and I don’t remember if this can be done. Maybe sending an email from Canon website, they will tell you. Regards
Did you find the FZ300 really noisey? I have one and as well reviewed as it is , i find the photo's very hit and miss. Grass on the outer circle of the pictures can look really poor and birds at 600mm can be very grainy and pixelated unless the light is very good. Sometimes even at iso 100 in reasonable light it can be bad. I took a photo of a bird in good light at maybe 20 feet and it looked like it had pixels for feathers :) I need more zoom but also better image quality, so along with the P950 i am very interested in this.
Hi Eric, thanks a lot for presenting your review of this Camera. My name is Emerson. I almost purchased one of that but, instead of needing great zoom, my main use will be for filming airplanes during the night at landing. The lights of the aircraft really a huge hassle for the AF and Manual Focus and, this camera does not have a good sensor for lighting sensibility. If increase ISO, OK, I receive noise as well....so could you indicate me the model Canon Rebel SL3 ? Could it be a good one for this proposal (filming aricrafts in HD and/or 4K at night) from 800 m from the aim? What about the lenses, one 300 mm would be goog? Thanks a lot.; Greetings from Brazil;
Hi, the problema with reflex camera will be getting expensive lenses for what you want to do... this is why a bridge camera is a more affordable solution. That far away.... aside the Nikon p1000.... not sure what camera you could get.
Hi, @@EricGibaud. Tks for the response. Exactly. Perhaps bridge Camera could be more interesting for now. With experience and more study about I want register, I could buy a specific camera in the future but keeping the Sx70 that will be a great companion for everyday moments. Thanks !
every Canon has Raw , no matter what it is , if it doesnt install CDHC on it and it will have it , i have SX130IS , no RAW out of the box but i shoot RAW with it .
Hello Eric Gibaud ! I need some advice from you if you can help me . I have the same camera like you . How can I adjust my camera settings to get wide - angle videos ?Can you write down , step by step camera settings .Your videos are great wide- angled , and I also wish to get such videos .Thank you in advance . Greetings Branimir ! I am subscribed at your channel !
Hi, I am sorry but I no longer have this camera, it was for the review so I cannot tell you exactly the steps, but for all my test I normally put full HD 25p
The Sony X400V is crap... It's prone to the Lens having malfunction when zooming and the replace it cost nearly half what I paid for. It's very common.
No point having raw with such a tiny sensor, terrible for low light or high shutter speed, Don't even think about printing pics from a bridge camera, They take snapshots not proper pictures, 😉
