I just picked up the R6 Mark II yesterday and shot some videos with it at night with a really high ISO 3200 and I was shocked how clean it was. Definitely was not expecting this haha. This just reaffirms what I was thinking!
WOW! Can't wait to play with this. I bought a R6 MII and a C70 this year. Right now I'm learning the C70. When I come back to the RkII, I will definately play with this feature!
I shot a video with ISO 10,000 and that video was SOOO damn clean I was shocked as to why. Not a spec of grain. I have yet to test that with still but I will now now you’ve mentioned this. Once again an awesome video Jared.
I just watched Caleb Brunkow@calebbrunkow RU-vid video about the same subject using the R6 mark 1. I have the same camera. He stated that, doing his own test, that 800 clean, 1600 clean, 3200 clean, 6400 clean. The iso's in between had more noise. That would seem to indicate that both photo and video should use these iso settings. Verrrryyyyy Interessssssttttinnnnggg Klink! As always, keep up the good work and keep'em flying... From the little Red Planet.... 👽👽👽👽👽😂
I did notice that too, i was always shooting at 800 in clog 3, I bumped it up to 3200 and did notice that it cleaned up a lot in the shadows. did you notice a slight change in the color, it seemed like it was slightly more washed out. clog 3 is washed out anyways, but yeah it is not a big deal. but yeah I started shooting in 3200 iso about 4 months ago, because it was so much better. i have not done 6400 yet.
I’m interested in a redo of one of your old videos but specifically what the R6ii looks like with the 15-35mm 2.8 at 15mm with ois and ibis on as well as digital ENHANCED while walking / vlog style. There is legit only like 2 videos on the entire internet of these specific settings. I know your old Xmas video was talking a bit but that was in the house and dark. That one guy on the rooftop in another country that magically has the best stab I’ve ever seen without wobbles but everyone just says use 24mm+ to rid yourself of the wobbles. Of course with that lens at 15mm with digital enhanced brings you to about 23mm focal length and in reality should be on the cusp of ridding the warp while handheld. I know you’ve done this test for your own personal knowledge as has everyone else but I don’t want to buy the 15-35 until I really see it, know what I mean. Idk if you can do a short or something and hit me with the link. I’m subbed but I don’t think that works to notify of shorts.
@@JaredHoyman I hear you there and I suppose your right the gimbal just deals with all of the wobble its just wanting a run and gun kit for a spur of the moment thing becomes hard with a gimbal. Can you say is it more usable than your old video in enhanced? Everything I’ve seen it really does eliminate warps and wobbles greatly because with normal IS with digital but not enhanced I still feel like it’s not really usable for anything but say a RU-vid vlog. Thanks for the fast reply.
Question since you mention clog 3 is great in davinci resolve. When I bring my clog 3 in to Davinci Resolve it only brings in the audio and no video. If I shoot in standard video it brings the video in just fine. What am I doing wrong?
That is not dual iso. Sensors have peaks and valleys however, dual iso sensors are made specifically with algorithms to maximize the output at the two bases shows that are being used. Our six mark two does not have that. Yes, it has a sweet spot but to call it dual iso would not be accurate.

ISO 4000 looks so much better than iso 6400 on any canon imo
Hi Jared , I have a r6 mark ii and I travel to Tokyo next week.Im interested in night videography.which iso do you recommend me as native iso for night shots ? and what white balance should I use knowing that there are so many different source of light?
3200 and 6400 are very clean. To help keep your iso down I would shoot with fast lenses at night if you can. 2.8 or wider. Idealy 1.8 or wider would be good, so then you are looking at primes. Otherwise, 2.8 zooms will be just fine since the Mark II does great with higher ISO. As for WB you may need to try out WB presets to see which one's are the most appealing under those night lights. If all else fails Auto WB.
OK so when you are doing a real estate walkthrough at 3200 iso in Clog 3 - what is your histogram doing? Is it hitting the far right edge and do you have to use ND filter to back it down more towards the middle or do you just not bother with ND or ????
That's a good question. For interior I'm usually between 3200 and 6400 and my histogram is in the middle. For outside I keep it at iso 800 and my f-stop is around 11. With ND I bring it down to about 5.6 and keep it at 800 iso.
@@JaredHoyman Wow thanks so much for the speedy reply, just to be extra nerdy - for your interior shots are you also at an 11 fstop or do you go for more shallow depth of field than that? All this Clog3 stuff is blowing my mind since I am used to shooting on an old Canon T2i where I wanted an ISO of 100 but not in log of course! haha
@@scrow9 Interior is usually around F4 so I can keep ISO below 6400. If I get in a bright area I may move it up to 5.6 or 8 near windows. You will love the flexibility of Clog 3. It give you room for error when editing in post. BTW...You just happen to be catching me procrastinating doing a video. I should get back to it.
The greyed out area is the indicator where dynamic range is lost. If you go below 800iso, which is the base iso then the grey expands indicating less dynamic range with that iso.
I shoot real estate on a gimbal. I have it in manual focus near infinity on ultra wide lenses like the 14-35 f4. Otherwise I just tap to focus for AF on the gimbal.
@@JaredHoyman thank you for responding, just opened up a production company and need to get going. What gimbal are you using? I’m considering Ronin RS3 Pro, this will have AF focus on it? Will be using Ninja from time to time, hoping AF focus option is available but I see my screen will go black when connecting to Ninja . I’ll be able to use buttons but this thing will be on a gimbal, if there’s a good gimbal that helps me AF please! Let me know! Thank you and good day to you
I'm a photo guy and the r6ii raws @ 6400 are just jam packed with noise, its horrible. Sure, I can use lightroom, but Canon don't seem to be making great advances in high iso and low noise as regards pictures.
It will be linked to my website in the next week. Pre sales with an early bird registration will be available soon. I'll make a video on youtube mentioning when pre sales are available along with a course outline. I'll also follow up with comments like this for those that are interested. Thanks for inquiring. I'm very excited about this course.
