@@TaipeiGeek I think both Canon and Nikon have pretty good sensors overall. In fact, anything in the last 10 years is good enough for most photographers. I think this was a pretty fair review. And he didn't say you WOULD bump the off/on button off on the Nikon. He just mentioned it as something that COULD happen. Especially if you're not a Nikon shooter normally and picked one up for the first time. He also indicated that you need to get in and get them in your hands to see which is best for you. Which I think is the biggest takeaway from that section of video, in my opinion.

If you're into shooting macro, I love the way Nikon handles focus stacking - you set the minimum focus distance and the distance between shots, then hit the shutter, and the camera will take a picture, focus forward slightly, take another picture, and keep going until focus reaches infinity. The advanced auto ISO control is also great, how it takes the lens focal length into account to determine when to stop extending the shutter time and start bumping ISO.

R6 owner here. Have had this camera for ~9 months and I absolutely love using it! Favourite feature is touch & drag AF that allows you to look through the EVF while using the touch screen as like a touch pad for choosing focusing point which is so much quicker than using the joystick. High ISO performance is much better than Canon DSLR, and the RF lenses are just so freaking good. It also shoots very sharp 4K, and with 4K light now it can shoot for longer as the camera heats up slower, and you basically don't get any quality loss. 20MP is kind of a pain though when I have to crop or when I shoot landscape. Battery life could it be better too coming from DSLR.
@MadPotoo

@Prashanth Panicker the viewfinder sticks out quite a bit and i never let my face touch the back, so that's not a problem for me. I also look through the evf with my right eye rather than the left, so less chance of the nose touching.

@Prashanth Panicker You could also look at getting a different eye cup for your viewfinder if your nose keeps hitting it. Not sure if they have one for yours but my gf has one for her 7D Mk II and it pulls her face slightly back from the screen (hers isn't touchscreen but you get the point) maybe something to look at.

Always down to ergonomics and feel for me so Nikon wins hands down. I’ve never once found myself knocking the power switch and it’s heavy so would know if I had! Also the canon is a massive £600 more expensive in the UK and that’s money I’d rather put into good glass.

Great review! Both are great cameras, no doubt. I prefer the ergonomics and the color science of the Nikon. I am a Nikon shooter, and have checked out the R6. The autofocus is better than the Z6ii at the moment. However, Nikon is coming out with another firmware update this month, and so the tracking will greatly improve once that’s released. Nikon is catching up with Canon and Sony when it comes to autofocus performance. I’ll stick with Nikon!

So what you are saying is that they sent the Z6 MK2 out into the wild knowing that the autofocus was way behind Canon and Sony but they promise that a firmware update at some point in the future will catch-up? Didn't they promise to send out new formware for the Z6 to speed up the autofocus over a year ago? There is a good reason why Nikon sales are bombing compared to Sony and Canon, people are starting to realise that the other two are so far ahead. My first sale was a Canon T6s. I still have it. I upgraded to a Nikon d750. I went with the d750 for the dynamic range and low light performance. It sadly took a hit from a wave at the beach. I then bought a z6 ii. I did look at the R5 and R6 but I took a chance on the z6 ii. I didn't want to have to take a loss on my 2 Nikon lenses to switch back to Canon. It seemed like the R6 was a lot better until the 2 firmware updates that came out for the z6 ii. Now there's not a lot of difference between the two and there's a rumor that Nikon has another update coming out soon. Hopefully it will bring it up to par with Canon and Sony. I don't know about the R5 and R6 but the z6 ii is ISO invariant as was the d750. I didn't know what that was when I bought my d750. I shoot a lot of milky way and night time pictures so having the ISO invariance is needed. I also like the ergonomics of Nikon. I like where the shutter button is placed. I don't have a problem with Canon though with the ergonomics. I think both companies make great cameras. But one of the big things is, 8 like the files from the Nikon over the Canon. I think it has some of the more truer colors. I don't like the screen blackout in burst mode but in hoping that is something they can fix in an update one day. The R3 doesn't have it and the z9 is not supposed to have it. Maybe that can be passed down to the lower end cameras.

The Z5 for 999-1098 EUR body-only is the best bang of the buck for the price level. 1) IBIS 2) comprehensive weathersealing like the Z6/Z7(II) series 3) 3.68 MP EVF with decent optics inside I'd prefer a Z5 anytime over the A7C - which does have a lame 2.36 MP EVF, crappy Eyecup which blocks almost no light, low EVF magnification ratio - even less than Fuji X-E Series, and that A7C EVF is also bad for eyeglasses wearers. Sony A7C in germany - 1799 EUR, Nikon Z5 -1098 EUR. Go figure. For the saved Money, the 24-70/F4 S-Class excellent Zoom (ca. 400-450 EUR mint used) and still you can buy the nice 40mm F2 Z Prime Lens.

Both look decent for different reasons and what you like to photograph I guess. It also depends on your budget and the lens ranges offered and prices. Canon already has some interesting RF telephoto lenses beyond 200mm, Nikon has no Z-Mount telephoto lenses beyond 200mm, yet. But if you do have a bunch of older canon EF lenses or Nikon F-Mount lenses then using an adapter could be a good starting point.

@marcp.1752
@marcp.1752 2 года назад
It's a nice DSLM, but RF lenses are 1) uber expensive, much more than their EF Mount predecessors, up to serveral 100 EUR more each Lens with equal lens speed and focal length - which sucks from Canon. 2) No top LCD onto the R6, and the body design doesn't look like a 2600 EUR body for my naked eyes. 3) still with an AA Filter inside the OPLF, which might be weak, but limits further the full 20 MP Sensor resolution. Besides these drawbacks which would prevent me from buying into the RF System, it's a great Camera. :)

You may.want to add information on the availability of the adapters for older lenses, and how well that works for each. For a while I noticed that the plain EF to RF adapter was selling for more than the control ring version. Also as soon as you purchase a current lens for the current lens mount, an interesting shell game occurs.

I don't own any EF lenses, so I haven't been able to personally test Canon's adapter. Most people who have tell me it's great though. I do own a lot of F mount glass on the other hand, so I can tell you from first hand experience that Nikon's FTZ adapter is pretty bad.

If someone is going in fresh to photography, I probably wouldn't recommend either. Minimum £2k is a lot to spend on a camera, if you have no experience. Generally, I am quite hard on Nikon, despite having used Nikon for more than 20 years. Personally, I am not a fan of the z6 II ergonomics. For some reason, it just doesn't fit my hand well, unlike their DSLR's, so I haven't gone over and currently, can't see me going over because, the ergonomics are such an important thing for me. As for the R6, I have friends who bought the R6 and whilst they thought it was decent, they just didn't like that it had 20mp, one upgraded to a R5 and the other the Sony a7RIII. The other factor to mention is the Nikon Z7 II is only £400 (though the Canon R6 has £200 off currently) more and give you 45mp, of course, it does have the same ergonomic issues as the Z6 II, which I do hope Nikon eventually improve on.

Nearly all full frame mirrorless from the 3 companies mentioned (except for the recently announced R3 and the upcoming Z9) suffers from some ergonomic issue relating to a pinky finger not having a space in the grip with Sony even offering a grip extension as their official accessory. This is mainly due to the size nature of mirrorless bodies. Most of these problems also happens mostly to western people having a relatively larger palm size compared to the rest of the world.

Hard to switch accidentally, easily reachable, not in a way of additional controls (love the dial around the shutter button). I got a “good” deal on a barely used R6 and 3 lenses and the EF adapter. So I was coming at the question fresh. The AF was the deciding factor over everything else. I wish the long telephoto lenses were smaller and lighter but I don’t have any other criticism.

And the R6 isn’t using a BSI sensor! The combination of the 1Dx Mark III sensor and processor is great. Not to forget, that canon produces their own sensor! Nikon is just getting a already perfect Sony Sensor and just customizing the colors for their needs! It’s just a different thing to produce your own sensors of instead buying them already perfect from an other company! Imagine one Day Sony says „So, we do not sell any Sensor for other Companies more“, what do you think will happen to Nikon?! They will have empty bodies with no sensors! That will my never happen, but who knows there is going crazy stuff at least! Nikon is a small company, which rescued themselves with the mirrorless and their decision in last minute! Canon is still No.1 leader, even entering mirrorless market so late with good cameras! Like I mentioned earlier, I own both and shoot both. Every camera has his own strange and weakness! If you want shooting stills, where there is almost no movement I take the Nikon. But if I want shoot moving subject, like jumping and running kids, sports or wildlife I take the canon! Nikon had his focus on very good midrange lenses! If they not decided to move this way, they were gone! Canon on the other Hand decided to go into Sports and focus more on AF perfomance and creating very good but heavily expensive L lenses! Nikon is more for the advanced and hobby photographer, where canon is more focused for the Pros! Don’t get me wrong, there are several Pros shooting Nikon, but most Pros, are using canon for sports, wildlife, cars and other stuff! Just take a look at the Football (Soccer) Game, you will see almost white L lenses only! 🤷🏻 Canon has really improved their sensors a lot! And they are matching almost the Sony sensors in Dynamic Range! Both Companies are producing great stuff for creatives! I can’t understand why there is always a fight between Nikon and canon! Same shit with Samsung an Apple! 🤦🏻‍♂️ just use and enjoy the gear you have and that’s it! If Nikon improves their AF to match Sony and canon I will be happy to, but hating them, for the choice of way they made? No! These Days there aren’t bad Cameras! If somebody can’t do a good picture with neither of these cameras, it’s not made for Photography! It always depended on the Photographer behind the camera and these days it’s more true than ever!

Funny that now the difference between 20 and 24mp's is supposedly insignificant, but 10 years ago a 2mp increase was cause for a whole new model. (It does make a difference.) The Canon has overheating problems, the ergos are poor in comparison, the Canon sensors are not as good as the Nikon (Sony's) and the Canon is $500 USD more expensive. Canon's lenses are steeply priced as well, and not as consistently excellent in terms of IQ across the board. I only point all this out because the vid didn't... The Nikon is the better all 'rounder for less money.

Nikon is in a totally different league than anyone else in terms of ergonomics, general user interface, and battling for best DR and color, they just are way behind on AF tracking, at this point I just use both, R6 when I need AF speed and accuracy, and my Z6 or D850 for absolutely anything else.

I find my friends Canon R5 to be a toy compared to my Nikon Z6ii. Sure there's a bit of the lag in the AF but once you practice enough with photography in general I think you will find the Nikon to be more of natural fit for your future photography needs.

I'm a Nikon shooter and I never got friendly with the control dial, it seems slightly harder to reach compared to Canon's top mounted control dial, overall tho I prefer Nikon's ergonomics, color science, menus and sensor (which is made by Sony). Funny that I grew up on Canon EOS 620, I was sure that I was going to shoot Canon forever :) The on/off button on Nikon is perfectly placed in my opinion, I never accidentally turn it on/off.

I think I'd probably go with the Z5 over the Z6. I'm not a fan of the mismatched memory cards, either (altho to be fair my main cam is an A7C and it only has one slot anyway).

Got to go with the R6 for that full flippy screen and cheaper media.

Good auto focus is hard to ignore. But the Nikon is considerably cheaper too. Both lag way behind the lens choices of Sony with third party companies like Tamron and Sigma. Since I have Canon glass I guess the R6 wins, but then again you can adapt EF glass to Nikon as well with something like the Fringer adapter. The Nikon can almost adapt anything to since it has a very close distance from mount to sensor. Really tough choice if you coming in new.
@brad_in_yyc
@brad_in_yyc 2 года назад
You can also adapt those EF lenses from sigma and Tamron and others to the RF mount too. But not adapting F mount to RF like you can the other way around, as you stated, EF to Z.

I'm already married to the Nikon DSLR. But coming fresh, Canon. Not only has Nikon been dragging their feet AF wise, Canon has more lens choices for the RF mount. I don't know if Canon has supply problems now but, Nikon was iffy on a their items before the pandemic started. Hope they can change that & come out with a competitor to the R5 as well. Good honest comparison. PS: Coming fresh, I would give Sony a shot now just on the focus &( I don't shoot vid hardly but want to try a little more) video capabilities. They are setting the pace for others to follow.

Nikon shooter for 30 years. Changed to a canon simply because of the autofocusing differences. Bought a z6II when it came out and waited n waited for a firmware update. I finally gave up around the May period after upgrading the firmware that was released then and made the change. I shoot birds and loving the canon.

I think the biggest problem with a Nikon z62 is the low number of phase detection points I mean compared to the other competitors at this price, its lowest number 273 points where everyone else is like well over 400 that are on most of its own competitors at that price point. And that's the whole reason why in longer focal distances and I like the auto focusing system tends to go off hunting all over the place of subject to lock onto. they should have made this camera with at least minimum 400 phase detection points. like Nikon a lot I think their z line is really good and I find that I have been releasing a lot more lenses for the z mount more than Canon at the moment. but their bodies are still lacking to keep up with the rest of the market.

I am having the ecosystem battle with myself at the moment. Current shoot Motocross with a Nikon D500, but feel it is time to change to mirrorless. Really want to go with the R6 as it is clearly the best camera for my niche, outside of the R3 of course! However changing all my gear across, lenses and all is a bit of a pain in the ass. Having said that I am pretty sure it will be worth it

@Eslam Elmhlawy I kept Nikon. It's just a personal preference, I like the body and images I get from Nikon. Colors coming from Nikon are great even at high ISO. Canon definitely wins in AF.
@USGrant21st
@USGrant21st 2 года назад
@Eslam Elmhlawy Nikon has more pixels, but lenses are more important. Most Nikon Z lenses are very good. Most Canon RF lenses are also very good, but they cost more. I don't use any Nikon G lenses, so can't comment about them. I have a dozen of e-mount lenses from my Sony, they work well on Nikon via TZE-02 adapter. Z6 and Z6ii have the cleanest high ISO. Using DXO PR I can shoot ISO 51200 on Nikon and get pretty clean images.
