I really like that trick to remember how to tie the double alpine with the ring on it. X means no parallel means go. The first time I tried that setup I did it wrong and I stuck to just the butterfly and rope method for a while. Then I made a soft 8 but I couldn't find any videos on it so I just put the rope through each ring and tied a fisherman's then put the excess rope through again with another fisherman's if that makes sense. I have an extra set of rings thou so I am going to try your method with the girth hitch I could see it being equally or even more beneficial. Also I saw you mentioned you're in AZ. I live in Sedona and I understand why you want to move as the trees out here aren't like other parts of the country and Ive definitely been envious of some places in videos Ive watched. I was raised here though and finally have enough business to keep me here. I wish you the absolute best experiences in your travels though I bet it feels good to be excited about moving somewhere you want. Good for you bro! Also I appreciate your videos for me they have been like a one stop shop glossary. You seem to touch on most if not all of everything pertaining to tree climbing. If I'm ever looking for something its pretty much guaranteed you've done a video on it.

First of all, thank you for your exceptionally kind and thoughtful comment! Here is a video I made awhile back that demonstrates that method for attaching a ring up close! It may be easier to understand! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zO7ng-SBBVs.html Next, if you use a Soft 8, you're honestly better off using a Poacher's loop (sometimes called a Double Fisherman) on each end, unless you tape down the Girth hitches at both ends, simply because the former is less likely to come loose during cyclic loading (however, as long as a strand of rope is going through each ring in the Soft 8, the Girth hitches can never fully come undone...it's just more of an inconvenience if they do. I never use a Soft 8 simply because it's much more convenient to simply tie an Alpine Butterfly, especially since I can adjust the size of the loop for any tree limb I'll be isolating the canopy anchor around and Soft 8s are a pain to adjust. Yes, Arizona is not for me. This video was actually shot in Massachusetts while I was visiting for Christmas! Beautiful trees out there! Thank you for saying you appreciate my videos! I have, for certain, done my best to cover everything as extensively as I possibly can and I currently believe that my channel is hugely underrated at the moment, and my hope is that I will soon get more subscribers. I already have over 300 videos at this point, with plans to make much more content in the future, as well as to remake some of my older videos! Now that I have a GoPro, and once I move, I will create much more content where I'm actually climbing. It was nice to read what you had to say and you've helped put a smile on my face! Thank you! If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in a comment or to reach out to me privately at knotorious.contact@gmail.com!

Thanks so much for your honest review of part one of my canopy anchor series! I really appreciate your feedback! Afterall, I do this for you -- the viewer -- and getting your input on anything makes my day; even when it's not what I want to hear! Anyways, part two will come out in roughly two or three weeks. Make sure you have the notification bell turned on!

I like this method, how the ring sits on top of the butterfly 👌 20:31

I learned that technique from the TCI (Tree Care Industry) Expo... I forget which video, but here are two for your viewing pleasure: Basic Anchors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lIvXHgXlmCg.htmlsi=LkzUpAjMzY5npwmS Advanced Anchors: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8_pPxhavjTU.htmlsi=HlC_rkDbQpI_1LQ7 Watch them both. Thank me later. They are well done.

No doubt! The basics are what keep us safe in the canopy! The expert tricks are garnish for an old recipe...if that makes any sense! Happy you approve! The next video will come out in two or three more weeks after some "filler" videos about friction hitches and knots. My climbing instructional videos take the most work, so I have to put easier videos in between them so that I don't exhaust my best content. Make sense?

You're very welcome, my friend! Thank you for thanking me! I greatly appreciate it! BE SURE to check out my more recent videos, which have greatly improved since this video was posted! I have a video for pretty much anything and everything related to knots, friction hitches and -- of course -- tree climbing! Thanks for commenting! =D

Hmm, a bolin isn't ok to climb on, but it's ok to drop a 1000 lbs of log onto? Would it curl your short hairs to know I've climbed on a cow hitch?
@Knot-orious

The reason a bowline is safe for rigging applications is because it is tied on, loaded and then dropped to the ground ONE TIME per piece. When someone climbs on a bowline, it gets repeatedly cyclically loaded, which puts it at risk of collapsing. That's why an additional step, such as a Yosemite finish of a Scott's Locked is a requirement.

@Knot-orious that's what needs in the video brother. Don't just tell someone "dont", tell em why. You and I know, how about everyone else? Those are the nuggets that make it real.

@@kavemanthewoodbutcherThat's a very good point. I'll be sure to be more cognizant of such opportunities to further explain something going forward!

9:51 What if your carabiner is rated to higher kn, cross loaded, than your body, re: the ISC Iron Wizard?
@Knot-orious
@Knot-orious 6 месяцев назад
I'm not sure what you're asking. If the carabiner cross loads, even if it's the Iron Wizard, it's going to be dangerous!
